  1. Yeah, I get your point. Another thing I just thought of was maybe I just wreck the surprise and bring him with so he can feel out the options. I wouldn't be opposed to maybe looking at a citica or a curado either, as the cost is justified if he gets long term use out of the reel. and both are available in lefties. I'll look at the Daiwas too, but the store I frequent doesn't carry too much of the Daiwa line, so I'm doubting they have lefties, but you never know!
  2. Thanks, I'll see if I can look at those locally tomorrow. I don't have anything under 6'3, so my concern is the rods will be too long for him to handle properly. When we practiced he was using the 6'3" and although he was doing well, it looked too long for him to do anything other then sidecast
  3. So my 11 year old boy said he's ready to start learning the art of fishing with a baitcaster. He's advenced for his age in terms of angling, so I said if his report card came in good, we'd start looking. I showed him some videos and we even went and took some casts out in the yard so he could get the feel for it, and he did really well! So now I'm looking for an entry level baitcaster for him to surprise him abit this weekend. He's left hand so I know it narrows my options abit. So I went for a look around and found one that looks nice, supposedly handle pretty well, but is not too advanced for him to learn on(ie the break system) The reel is a Shimano Cajus, and I paired it up with a 6ft. Berkley Lightning medium rod. It felt pretty good in my hand and it just so happens the colors match (which obviously doesn't matter, but I think he'll like that. Any thoughts before I make the purchase? Are there better options or anything I'm overlooking here? This rod would see most its action shorefishing heavy cover, and finessing around heavy rock near rapids. Oh, I'll mention too the total cost of this combo would be about $140 Thanks in advance for any thoughts or suggestions! Always appreciated
  4. I would def. use them with grubs. I love using salted grubs. But I would also use them tipped with a crawler or live minnow, or even Gulp minnows. But yeah, I still use salted grubs most the time, 2.5-4"
  5. I use glow jigs for almost all my ice fishing, while jigging of course. Not too much light penetration down there, even during the day. These one look pretty good TJ! I'd buy them if they are available in packs of at least 25
  6. Looks like I'm off to LOTW saturday. D'OH, we'll get out soon!
  7. haha, glad you took it in stride Limey! We gotta crap talk now the comp is about to begin. You wanna hit sawbill or Dore next weekend?
  8. Wow, great work!!!
  9. I prefer closed eye but in all honesty, the majority of my SB's are open eye. I use 3/8oz and 1/2oz for bass, 3/8oz for walleye
  10. Kalins single tail are by far my favorite, in bluegill I use alot of Yum grubs to, but my fave it black with a sliver, single tail
  11. Pfffft.. Nice fish, I guess
  12. Two of my boys like using those frogs, and they do really well with them towards the end of July. I'm not sure why but they have an easier time hooking up on the small versions??? Great price, I woulda grabbed a few as well
  13. They are both trophy pike lakes. If I had to choose, I'd go LOTW. Lac seul is indeed awesome, but around these parts, LOTW is king
  14. I watched this a few months back, and I loved it. Some decent pike in the show too, caught using the sketchiest boats ever lol
  15. The moneys paid to bands is part of their agreement. Those moneys goes towards basically everything a civilization has, health care, education, social assistance etc. Natives do not pay out of pocket, because the band allocates a certain amount of what they have received to fund their members education. So in one essence, yes, it seems as if they are receiving free education. But on the other hand, it's being drawn out of funds from other areas. So it IS AT A COST, just not from your monetary viewpoint. But many bands have tons of requirements to get assistance attending school. Here, drug testing is required frequently, you must be in good financial standing ie. have your rent paid up to date, etc. I'm not speaking on behalf of every band though, I know, just like everything else, there are good and bad. But before everyone spouts off about taxes for the umpteenth time, remember, its an agreement made through the Queen, GG, and the Canadian government. Whether you agree or not. And somebody in this thread made an awesome point in regards to taxes... IF IT WAS FUNDED SOLELY ON TAX DOLLARS, AND THAT WAS REMOVED, DO YOU REALLY BELIEVE YOU WOULD PAY LESS TAXES?
  16. Thanks for posting that bushart, much appreciated.
  17. Have a good ice season guys and gals!

  18. The government has done much, much worse to indigenous people. That was a result of years of abuse and frustration. Unfortunately, that happens. If you look at the grand scope of issues, you can understand that people break, and horrible things can happen. All the more reason to understand, on both sides, move forward and stop pointing fingers at each other. The real people at fault here are those in charge, and everyone needs to realize that to move on. This is not Canadians vrs. Natives, it's people against crimes of humanity and the ecosystem When people fail to realize this, they are ignorantly perpetuating the separation of the two.
  19. I wasnt directing any negative energy at you DanC, just stating there was an interesting story behind what happend in Fort Frances. Irishfield, thats a much better post, and I can understand it in a different light than the other post. We all do bad things and things that aren't agreeable with everyone. But I truly believe this movement is a chance for the past to be set aside, and a way for all Canadians to understand each other, help each other, and most importantly, protect our lands/environment. The way things are going, nobody can justify the actions we have taken or allowed to happen to our lands/resources. We need to protect life Again, thanks irishfield for the clarification and I apologize for taking that the wrong way
  20. There is a story behind the Fort Frances issue. (DanC, its kinda comical in a messed up way. Glad everyone is alright though) And yes, the media is focusing on alot of negative things to keep you believing Natives are your enemy, and not Stephen Harper. (ie The Sun News, if you wanna balance it out, at least check out APTN) Remember, Natives are evil people that live for free. Everyone else is a saint, lol. And taxes pay for everything! Seriously, I'm shocked at alot of the comments in this thread. A fishing site, where little to nobody has mentioned anything in relation to the protection of the earth. Free money this, taxes that, education this. Yet nearly every comment is uneducated, and ignorance at best. Irishfield, perhaps we should chat sometime via pm, and see if we can understand each others viewpoints better. Cause your post in regards to me "breeding a football team" and " sorry, I was at work" replies are seriously offensive given the objective of this thread. But you spent $325,000 on education and your calling me out? That was your decision to pay that for your children, it has nothing at all to do with me personally. At least I can't make the correlation?
  21. Alot of assumptions in this thread, hmmmm...
  22. Nice and warm here Simon! at least according to that other thread, hahahaha. She is making nice ice!!!! brrrr.
  23. Think however you wish, but your thoughts are not law nor are they what was signed in the treaties. The rallies are all over the world, lol, not just in Canada
