  1. Good ending to the problem. I'm almost wondering if they are the old traps from a trapper that passed away and nobody picked them up.

Actually the landlord thinks he might have set them as a young boy, or even his dad. The property has been in there family for well over 100 years.

I found an old roll of fencing under some brush and it looks like some of it was nipped to make the snares.

This was either sustanance for a family or kids learning to trap???

The township and a few local trappers sure were a big help!

  2. Yeah for sure. Our well water is horrible at the moment as a filter went.

So I buy a couple of those big jugs at 12.50 each and fill em for free. When im done with the jugs I can return them and collect 10 bucks per jug.

We also take our garbage back to RRFN landfill because its free

  3. I have no thrilling story to tell here.

A clean sweep of the property revealed very old traps and snares.

Very rusted and not in use. The trap my dog was caught in was so rusted at could barely close(thats why she was uninjured.

The property owner has no agreements to trap on this property, and its been passed down from his father. These seem to have been here a VERY long time.

They are now removed, at least I hope all of them are.

    Thanks for all your concerns?

Im just happy its safe out there.

And yes I added some good signage lol.

  4. We forage alot and thats awesome, great to teach the kids and its a great bonding time out in nature. We get alot of teas that we all drink. I used to be a pop fiend so we save alot on that just by drinking tea instead

a few years back we all stopped drinking milk. I occassionally use almond milk for cooking but no milk saves alot especially for us.

freeze, pickle, canning saves tonnes, just requires some time.

we bought shares in a farm. Best purchase ever!$750 got us easily 2-3000 in meat and fresh herbs and produce. Plus they taught us how to can and are just a great family to deal with.

my wife makes homemade toothpaste and its awesome, same with balms etc.

we cook from scratch 95% of the time. With that comes buying in bulk.

i try to drive and mukti task. If I need to go to hockey with my son, thats when I drop off garbage and shop or whatever.

no cleaning supplies in our house at all. Just vinegar and water.

we fill our water jugs for free at a relatives house.

use leftover fish or animals for dog food. I cant hunt(no PAL yet) but my wifes cousin always drops off a couple deer per year. All the scrap feeds the dogs. We process the deer ourselves.

Buy bulk flour. You would be amazed how many things you can make with flour.

learn to bake bread. Its amazing anyhow and very cheap. I can make 2 loafs of bread for probably 30 cents.

i keep my heat off during the day. Doesnt bother me one bit.

Make your own sauces, they taste better anyhow

live within your means. With cash. "My dad once told me to keep your bills within one weeks pay, thats what you can afford"

Another good one that may take time to pay off but will one day, never hesitate to help people in your community. One day itll come back and save you. Make friends with skilled tradesman lol, if your an idiot like me. Got a plumbing issue call your bud lol, invite him over for a beer and supper. Ie a few years back I got my shower redone with a piece we found for free from a homeowner. Buddy installed it for 30 pieces of frybread. So it cost about an hours work and maybe 5 bucks lol

  5. 1/4 ounce northland shakeyhead jig with a 6" pumpkin/fleck senko.

I can even ice fish with it?

Jig it, swim it, fish it weedless/snagless, and wacky rig it?

Caught tons of fish the past two to three years doing all these, especially pike, walleye and smallies. I can trim the worm, its deadly on crappie as well.

  6. I would love to sit in court the day the Crown tries to prosecute someone that fed his pets the carcass of or a legally caught fish.

Yep, thats complete nonsense. Garbage or feed your dogs.

I cannot fathom and MNR officer disputing this.

The carcase is non edible for the most part, and they just go in the garbage and stink to high hell and raise maggots.

Heck even the garbage disposal guys would appreciate this im sure

  7. Im not sure of the legality, id just call MNR and ask.

I could not see them having an issue with you saving carcasses to feed your dogs, or make soup stocks etc.

I mean really your just using the whole fish for a beneficial purpose.

Again id call MNR and ask for their take

  8. I feed my fish guts and heads to my dogs all the time, they love em.

But I let them gorge on them. No way am I saving walleye heads lol.

One of my buds didnt believe my pups would eat a walleye carcass in under a minute, we made a bet. I made 5 bucks real easy.

Huskies dispose of the remains quickly.

Also they eat lampreys, which makes me wanna puke. They dont even chew, just down the hatch. Gross

  9. Been there with our 108lb lab.. and unfortunately for Leah she couldn't release the beaver trap and carried him over 3500 feet back to the house for me to release him.

Ugh thats brutal, sorry to hear.

    Thats insane

  10. Well isnt that nice, my kids take the dog for a walk on the backside of our property?.

Im outside feeding my other husky while all the sudden my son comes running full tilt in tears.

So turns out my dog get her foot clamped in a trap. Not to sound insensitive but thankfully it wasnt one of my kids.

I follow his lead and get my poor dog out. Luckily shes not hurt to bad. Pretty pissed off but ok.

Sure enough the kids show me multiple traps and snares, all on our property.

Now im really upset about all this, but just to add to it, its on our friggen property so if anyone else found these it would appear to be me that had set them!

What in the heck is with some people?

Seriously, setting traps on a families property that has kids???

I mean illegal is illegal either way but wow!

Cant wait to see what the MNR has to say about this
