  1. I enjoyed the few smaller walleye tournies Ive done. Its a great place to mingle afterwards too.

But it is stressful thats for sure. And the money.

Ive pretty much broke even which is pretty darn good when you factor everything in.

Id never be able to tournement fish for a living.

but id suggest you try it once.

now back on topic, that article is hilarious??

  2. It's only February and we're living in Canada here people. Good lord, go buy a snowmobile, a pair of skates, snowshoes, or one of the other million things out there to keep you occupied and healthy during the cold weather months.

Prerty sure 80% off this board does just that.

My complaint is the lack of snow and cold weather. Mind you we did just get a dump and she dropped to -33 so a skidoo ride to the sliding hill is in order?

  3. My life seems sooooooo dull not having all these superstitions to worry about before I head out for a day of fishing

    Yip, more time for casting

When I lay tobacco its not actually a superstition. Its an aboriginal offering to the creator.

I just believe its an honourable thing to do.

If your gonna take, you gotta give back

  4. I would like to know where the banana superstition evolved from.... I have been hearing this for years here... Does anyone know the history behind it?

Id like to know as well

Its never harmed me. We always bring some sanmiches and apples and bananas.

  5. Ha, I agree with this, BillM. I always say it's like when you're golfing and you smoke your first drive right down the middle - rest of the round will be a disaster!

Nonsense lol. Im the opposite. A good first drive and I play good all round.

Same goes for a good first put. Thats why i always hit the practise green for 15 minutes before a round. A few chips and flops, some puts. Easily saves 5-8 shots off each round

I still suck at golf though. I average about 92 lol. Never bothered to figure out my handicap, always just replied with "very handicap" when asked haha

  6. 47" manitoubass. I caught probably over 200 pike in my life with my biggest 32". Well done dude.

Ive caught alot in the 38-42"

So yeah thats kinda my favorite catch. Id love to get bigger but im not even sure its possible where i live.

    My favorite catch by far.

Its hot as hell and im shore fishing bass. Doing well too.

I look to my right and there is this shallow sand area. I think I bet a big pike is sunning right there. I put on a jig head and a berkely ripple shad.

One cast, its like i casted directly into his mouth. As soon as the bait hit the water i set the hook.

That fish took 5 or 6 good runs and I was kinda in shock. Only muskies ive caught here are in the 20-24" range but i though for sure it was a musky.

I had to get in the water to land it and I was sketched right out. Handling a fish like that solo, in the water is gnarly.

I gotter unhooked without harm. Held her up in awe. What a beauty!

Took a minute or so to get her to swim off but she did.

That, to this date, is my most memorable catch

  7. Oh oh I almost forgot, the less gear you bring, the bigger this fish.

When I was about 12 I caught my PB Walleye. A beautiful 26 incher on my first cast. We had no net, pliars or camera and had to imediatly drive back to the dock to release it.

My biggest pike came when i was fishing solo and i hade an iphone but no way to take a pic in time to safely release the fish.

Great memories but man I wanted a pic of that beast!

47" and the best bite ive ever experienced, and it was an epic fight as I landed it from shore.

Never had a fish fight like that outside of sturgeon

  8. What a horrible story.

I wouldnt be so quick to judge the parents though unless facts have come out.

My kids were outta diapers before one, but my neighbours 4 year old is still in diapers. And from what ive seen they are fantastic parents

What a tragedy. I cant even imagine

  9. Wow nevermind.

A quick search shows methylmercury binds to thiols, especially cysteine.

    Thats very bad

Thats where GSH is made and cysteine is needed to make glutatione.

Thats actually more scary then i originally thought, since glutathione is the bodies main antioxidant

  10. Here is a question for you all.

Its always said bigger/older fish accumulate more mercury, and mercury is toxic. But fish actually accumulate a far more deadly form of mercury, and thats methyl mercury.

Now, both forms are fat soluble.

So what does that mean when you eat white fleshed fish that are almost all protein???

  11. The OMNR will never see any of that money.... It all goes to a general fund.... Which is squandered to cancel gas plants etc...

I hope this fellow gets the message and shares his experience with those around him..... However after reading the article it seems this fellow is habitual.

    G

    Of course. Sad but true.

but seriously, imagine every poacher getting a $25,000 dollar fine for each offense.

Also, im obviously no lawyer, but when the court hands a hefty fine, if its not payed within the time given, isnt the fine payed in jailtime in accordance to the amount of the fine?

  12. Holy crap I didnt realize just how stiff the penalties can actually be!!!

This guy got off easy compared to what he coulda got.

Why arent people jailed and or fined more heavily, more often?

Imagine how quick poaching would slow down with a 25 grand fine AND jailtime

  13. I actually did have trouble catching pike on a larger baits up there. They wanted a bite size snack because of the cold water temps I assume.

But I agree they usually will hit anything.

    Yip.

What was the measurement on that beauty slimeball? 41-42"?
