I agree with the others that 4 stroke is the way to go. Not for the gas consumption but more so for the no smoke and reduced noise. But are you sure you need a 9.9 HP or even an 8HP? I would think that for a 16' boat a 6HP would be a better fit. I have a 9.9HP ProKicker on the beast that I drive and it is plenty for my heavy rig.

The rated towing capacity includes the weight of the vehicle. If your vehicle weighs 2500 lbs (with fuel, passengers and stuff) then your left with a true towing capacity of 2700 lbs......a little sort of what you need! And, the towing capacities that manufacturers promote are always exaggerated, you should always discount them by at least 20%.

That boat, fully loaded, weighs 3500 to 3800 lbs. I owned a 2002 for 6 years and towed it with a Ford Expedition and F150. The Jimmy will pull it but not well. And it's not a safe ride if and when you have to take a sharp evasive action or stop quickly. But, if that's all you have then.....that's what you should use. I did have an Explorer V8 (5.0 Litre) to tow a Lund ProV and it didn't do a good job.

The on-line method only works for renewals.

Gerritt, I think you would be wasting your money. A 40HP has very little weight in the lower unit, which is all you should be concerned about. A transom saver will only assist in steadying the lower unit, not the whole motor. My motor weighs close to 550 lbs and I do have one because my lower unit probably weighs approx. 150 lbs. A 40 HP's lower unit would weigh much less, I would guess maybe 30 lbs. at best....your transom surely can handle that kind of weight. Buy more lures or a better rod and reel with the money.

Joey, that was just out from Port Dalhousie. The east winds came up late morning and the lake got quite bumpy, we saw the odd 5 footer. But, no immodium for my partner and I, luckily for us we don't tend to get seasick.

This was Lake Ontario on Sunday: The Niagara was much nicer it seems.

And I'll be there Sunday to watch it all unfold.

That would be me. Wayne's put up a couple of nice aerial photos of parts of the lake. As you can see it isn't a remote lake, it's accessible by car so it does get some traffic. The lake is approx. 16 miles long but it has plenty of shoreline. Fishing is generally fairly good for walleye, pike and smallmouth but they can be finicky at times.

To Specktacklure: 1. I think that you need to do a bit more "homework". 4 strokes have around in outboards for 20 or so years, not 4 or 5 years as you state. Honda was the first manufatcurer to bring them to market. I owned a 1996 Johnson 9.9 4 stroke .... I think that makes it 12 years ago and I know that wasn't the first year for them. 2. Mercury contracts out their 4 stroke production only, not their 2 strokes. Yamaha used to have most of it but now I believe that the smaller HP units are produced by Tahatsu. Tahatsu is a Subsidiary of Nisaan... a pretty good car company.

Lew, Sometimes the dealer is under audit and this is one way that MOF can check to make sure they've remitted the taxes collected by that dealer. The same thing happened to me in 2002. Sometimes though, the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.

Revenue Canada or as they are now called CRA, is only responsible for collecting GST. Since there is no GST on these transactions I can't understand why anyone is getting a letter from the feds (CRA). What probably happened is that the letter came from the Minisrty of Finance which is the provincial government looking for the PST. As Terry pointed out, the MOF (Ministry of Finance) will quite likely audit the purchaser by contacting the vendor to verify the amount paid. As long as both of you are singing the same song that will probably end it. With cars, the MOF simply refer to the Black Book value and you pay PST on that amount. Hope this clarifies the situation.

There is no GST on transactions between individuals. But, there is PST on the sale of the entire package. Apprantly, some got away with paying PST on only the trailer but I suspect that MTO are now aware of this error. And there is no such thing as "MTO not having jurisdiction". They, in fact, do have authority to collect PST on all sales, they just don't (can't) track all transactions between individuals. They do, however, have a system in place that compares boat registrations to PST paid by the regirstered owners.

I used to own a pair of manual Canon's and I hated the fact that they were manual. I quit using them shortly thereafter. My buddy owns a pair of Scotty's and I have to admit they're mighty slick. I suppose they're all good at doing what they do. Here's me with a catch from L. Ontario last September.....in the background you can see his Scottys'.

It really depends on a lot of things like the size of your boat, whether your getting a 12, 24 or 36 volt unit, how high does your boat sit in the water (higher boats are more affected by the wind), and of course the battery/batteries selection. Ask the guys at BassPro for advice and have this info with you.

I don't know what kind of motor you "used", but my Minn Kota Maxxum doesn't exhibit this problem, it stays put when I take my foot off. "Its nice to have the full on switch too.....just flip the switch and its going........not like the cable steer where you need a foot on the pedal all the time" .... cable steer Minn Kota has a constant 'on' feature, no need to keep your foot on the pedal except to change the direction. Calling these motors "trolling motors' is a misnomer, they should be called positioning motors. They're not realy suited for all day trolling for walleye or muskie; they're not strong enough and limited in duration. Guys, I 'owned' a PD from 1996 to 2002, a wireless unit which was a total POS, and then the wired unit for 4 years. They do work but, in my opinion, just not as good as the cable steer. I agree with Sinker's that using it from the back of the boat is nice, however I never thought that this was all that important. My opinion only, from someone who has 'actually' owned both.

I've had both and I prefer the cable steer. Reasons are: 1) the autopilot is slower to react to a change, 2) the deploy/stow procedure is cumbersome, much more so than with the cable steer system. In theory, the autopilot sounds great but in reality the boat won't track like you would think it should. It doesn't really hold your heading in windy and wavy conditions because the waves will push the boat off course, like say 30ft to the right, and when to motor (compass) reacts it sends you to the heading previously set but you are still 30ft to the right. This motor cannot follow a contour or weedline which, in my opinion, renders it useless. Hope this helps.

Don't waste your money. I tried that with a panel that had a 20 watt rating and it still didn't work. A battery charger is a much better investment.

OK, that's the southern portion of the lake. The best and closest spot for walleye and pike would be Campden Bay, at the very end of the bay. Look for the only cottage in the bay and fish that section in front of it. You'll be in 4 to 10 ft of water and at that time of the year the fish are still in the weeds. If the dams are open then try that area ahead of the dam. The lodge owners will supply you with a map. Good luck.

I always like to name pets for what comes to mind the first time you see them. When my girls were little we introduced a cat and so I asked them what the cat made them think of. The cat was balck and white so my 5 year old says, without hesitation, that he (a male) looked liked an Oreo cookie. So that was it, we named him Oreo. As for you new dog, my first impression is that she has an ashen colour. So there, I would call her 'ashes'.

Sadly, the 112 will be outdated 5 minutes after you install it. It's the way of the world now, you need to trade up every 3 months to keep up with new technology. I just don't worry about that any more, so long as it works like it's supposed to, that's OK by me. Enjoy the 112 with the big screen. I wish I could fit one on my tub, eyes get weaker each year.
