  1. I got the Aqua - Vu with the 100 ft cable for Christmas! ( spoiled girl lol ) I had a chance to test it out last weekend on Rosseau! We were fishing in 40 ft of water and was able to see quite a bit although it was somewhat limited in the range.. I actually saw a small lake trout pick up the tube jig I was using and start swimming away with it! Unfortunately, she grabbed it by the side and I wasn't able to get a hookset. Was awesome to see though! I was even able to make out the spots on the side! Looking forward to trying it in Simcoe soon and learning how the whities react.
  2. I've had a lot of luck, including PB ( 16 pound + ) fishing at night during the summer. But we haven't fished with much success during the winter for nighttime lakers
  3. Hello!! I purchased a Salus suit for my boyfriend as a Christmas gift! The Rack and Reel ( formerly Simcoe bait and tackle ) in Barrie had them. If they don't have any left, I'm pretty sure they can be ordered and only take a few days to come in!
  4. Hello! Discophish told me last night he posted this! I have to agree, as captain of the boat, he can totally take all the credit! Not for just putting us in the right spot but for insisting we throw two more casts! I was ready to cut our losses and make a bee line for the cottage before we lost more blood from the black flies ( thick, dense clouds! felt like it anyways LOL ) but sure enough, on the second and last cast! bam! this beauty hit! Thanks Discophish! again!
  5. Double header!! That's one fish with the munchies.. Not even done the first meal and already after a snack!! Good job, beautiful trout.
  6. Thanks everyone for the comments and the suggestions. We certainly will be investing in heavier gear for future opportunities. Although we were trying for muskie, being the fish of a "1000" casts, never really thought that we would actually hook into some, especially that size. But guess you should always be prepared for the unexpected!! Be assured that the fish were all brought in relatively quick so as not to increase stress with minimal time out of the water and a long release.
  7. Hello!! My partner, Disco Phish, and I have spent a busy summer testing out new waters! We've tried Harris Lake, Bynge Inlet, Georgian Bay / Port Severn area, Lake Scugog, Cook's Bay, Manitowabing, Sealey's Bay, Wah Wash kesh Lake, Big Gull Lake, Sand Lake and Lake Rosseau. Mostly caught smaller pike and some bass. Tough trying unfamiliar territory... that is until recently, when a spontanious trip landed us three impressive Musky, including my first one ever! Disco Phish caught the first two while casting the edge of a weedbed on a dropoff, 38" and 36" respectively. Beautiful, chunky, healthy fish that were quickly released. After these we gave an attempt to find some pickerel and tossed into some bays for bass but with no luck so decided to troll again. Good thing we did since not even a minute into it, a 47" muskie slammed my lure and immediately jumped into the air! With great coaching from Disco Phish and a good friend I was able to bring it in where we took a quick photo ( unfortunately didn't turn out... of course ) and revived it where after about 5 minutes it gave a big thrust and off it went. Awesome! Here are some photo's!!
  8. Hey there! I try to make it a point to review this board a few times a week and I always look forward to your reports! They're well written, genuine and down to earth. The passion and perseverance you and Bly share never fail to instill the "bug" in me and I can't wait to get out with my partner, Disco Phish to explore new territories and species, hopefully with some of your good luck thrown in! Although it sounds like you have a hectic schedule, it's awesome you can find the time to pursue this refound sport and also have time to share with the rest.
  9. Ha ha.. that there's funny! Good look. All I have to say is... HOLY! Awesome fish guys.. which lure of yours were you using?
  10. Congratulations on the great catches! Kudos to you for wanting to keep your fishing spot private. There are so few areas in the urban center that can be fished without crowds. Look at how the Toronto Islands have exploded in recent years....now you see pictures of people shoulder to shoulder at the shore. When I was in my teens, I frequented Frenchman's Bay in Pickering, which was great for Brownheads, carp and the occasional Pike. As soon as the word got out, people came in droves. After two years.. you could barely catch a catfish. The garbage and empty worm containers were another issue all together. Disgusting.
  11. Great report! They're are all such a good size, beautiful coloring. Congrats on the pickerel! The one thing I love most of fishing is the element of surprise and wondering what you may be bringing up to the boat. That sure must have exceeded any of your expectations!
  12. Hey there! Disco Phish and I decided to forgoe the bugs this weekend and stay on local water. The water was calm and it was mild out. The fish weren't biting but he did manage to land a good sized pike late in the afternoon. We decided to head out mid-morning on Sunday despite the weather conditions because we figured that was the type of day the fish would be biting and sure enough they were. Although we weren't able to stay out long due to the choppy water and rain, we hooked into three fish, between 3-5 pounds. All in all, a good weekend. Looking forward to hitting more lakes further up north on our many planned camping trips.
  13. Thanks for the comments everyone! I hope that those people who can leave these spots, whether it's camping, a hiking trail or waterfront in such a mess will think twice about it, or feel a bit of guilt. Wishful thinking probably but have to be positive. Oh.. and sometimes it really pays to get up so early in the morning!! .. not often you open your eyes to such a beautiful sight as the early dawn sun and mist rising off a calm bay
  14. Hey everyone! My boyfriend and I decided to go camping on his cottage lake for the long weekend, located 45 minutes north of Parry Sound. We rushed up there on friday morning to secure a spot.. but we had absolutely no reason to rush. We were the only ones brave enough to combat the conditions, ha ha!! The cold wasn't an issue but the flies were brutal. Thank god for the screen tent we purchased ( and spent any time we weren't out on the water inside during daylight hours ) When we arrived to the site, which is a beautiful piece of crown land, the first thing we saw to our dismay was that it appeared a party took place, likely the weekend before. These "pigs" who camped there left an absolute mess. There must have been 40 beer cans, unopened cans of food, litter and a broken chair and to top it off, they sabotaged the fire pit by discarding all in there along with huge logs they dragged over. It only took us 15 minutes to put everything in a garbage bag, something they could have easily done. We also found some leaders lying around indicating that they were probably also poaching out of season... grrrrrrr Unfortunately for us, the bite was completely off the whole weekend. Tried everything but to no evail! We managed a couple of pencil neck pike on saturday morning and skunked for the rest. Trolling was one of the only options, just to keep the bugs at bay!! All in all, it was awesome to get out on the water and try out our new lures we purchased over the winter. Now only if the fish had been co-operating.. it would have made the blackflies tolerable!
  15. Wow! There are so many candid shots capturing such quick and monumental frames of what each of us individually consider to be meaningful. It's difficult to narrow it down! Here are two shots, both taken last summer at my boyfriends cottage, in the back bay behind and at one of our favourite fishing spots, aptely named " Sunset Bay" The time we've spent there has definitely been the most memorable and special time of my life to date!!
  16. Hey!! From a beautiful bay in the Parry Sound area that faces west. Aptley named, it's called "Sunset Bay" and there's a break that drops from 5- 8' deep running the length of it that a wide variety of fish are consistantly found on. It usually produces early evening ( as you can see from the pictures ) and this is one of the larger ones caught there. It was released for better days!!
  17. " Fish are my friends". I know it's silly, but I like to adhere to my motto. The only time I will keep something is if it's badly hooked or the person I'm with promises to make a good dinner of it. Not being a big seafood eater myself, it's easy to do. I'm starting to like walleye or perch fried up in "Rocky Madison" but would much, much rather see that same fish join the populations that seem so fragile these days. There's nothing I dislike more than seeing a big slaughter house of fish, even if it's within the regulation limits.
  18. Hey!! That's awesome! Nice laker! Was out at Minet point on Sunday, brutal wind. Was marking a lot of Whitey's on the bottom but got nothing. Glad you had a successful day!
  19. Hello!! As a girl who has a great passion for fishing and the outdoors in general, I've found it difficult to indulge in this sport. With guys or girls. At the most I could get someone to come out with me for a few hours, usually while camping or at a cottage, but they always lost interest. Luckily I have finally found a partner who shares it as strongly as me, or more. Disco Phish has been a great teacher and we have so many awesome memories already and eagerly look forward to the next time we can get out and try our luck. Right now we are in the midst of looking for a boat so we can explore all the great spots Ontario has to offer this coming summer!
  20. Thanks everyone for your recommendations and tips! I'll definitely apply this weekend when we head to Georgian and Kempfelt Bays ( weather / conditions permitting! ) and see what happens! Trial, error and lots of luck!
  21. Hello, I've never fished around Minden. Will have to try it sometime! We kept to area's that were mainly between 45 - 50 fow. We crossed over a section that went down to 100 ft but most people nearby were doing the same. We moved around a bit on Sunday with no success and after speaking to other's, seems everyone was in the same situation.
  22. Thanks! The ice was approx. 12" thick with about 8" of snow on top. It was really slushy on saturday when we arrived but by Sunday it had froze solid with the chilly night.
  23. Hello! Four of us went up to Lake Joseph to celebrate Disco Phish's birthday. What an amazing weekend! The weather was beautiful, mild, no wind, sunny skies. On Saturday the bite was on and the fish were biting agressively in approx 45 fow using Williams spoons and Meegs. By 10 am we had six fish already, ranging from two - five pounds. It slowed down during the afternoon and picked up again around 3 pm, where we caught three more, all fish were released, except one badly hooked in the gill rakers. We headed to the same spot on Sunday but unfortunately, the action had slowed down considerably. We were skunked until just before packing up when caught one on a jig with yellow mister twister / minnow. All in all, what a great way to spend a weekend!!
  24. Here's my version!! 3 hours to pack & repack 6 hours to get up to Port Carling from Toronto ( somebody!! forgot toiletries at home, had to turn around ) 1 hour to check in and repack jeep 1 hour to get to destination 3 hours on ice in gale force winds, no bites 1 hour to pack up and get back to motel 1 hour to unpack and dry everything Eat, pass out. Wake up early, hit snooze 8 times 1 1/2 hours to pack up and prepare, load jeep 1 hour to get to new fishing spot ( went down wrong road with sleds, oops = lot of walking ) 1/2 hour to set up 5 hours on ice in "are you kidding me!?" freezing temps 1 hour to pack up, get back to jeep and load 3 hours to get home.. not bad considering the blizzard conditions! 1 1/2 hours to unpack and dry equipment out EQUALS = MY FIRST LAKE TROUT EVER! Cost of fish - approx $300 HA HA HA ... Wouldn't have traded it for anything! What a great experience and looking forward to next time!
  25. Thanks for the advice!! Especially on the ice conditions. Big fear of mine but have safety gear. We'll make sure to stop by the bait shop like you suggested once we get up. Good luck to you if you're going out.. going to be a cold one!! I'm looking forward to posting the weekend results! ( wink! - there's positive thinking )
