  1. Wholesale Club - in Whitby They are part of the Supercentre/Loblaws group. Decent pricing.....alot of local restaurants use them. They have a website.
  2. I do this as well. I find 150 yds of PP does not fill the entire spool, therefore i use mono as backing. Also, I have never had a fish (exception: salmon, trout) rip out 75 yrds of line. When the braid becomes faded and frayed, I put it on another reel and use the other end........brand new line.
  3. I have never used WD40 but heard of trout guys spraying their roe bags with it years ago. Apparently WD40 used to be made with "fish oils" (I cannot confirm this).
  4. Great video, it was very entertaining. What an adventure!
  5. With a few north shore reports coming from PC/burlington, I thought I would try out of whitby as its 10 minutes from home. I wasn't expecting to catch anything but to my surprise I went 4 for 5. One coho and 3 bows were caught between 120-150 fow where the surface temps were the warmest. I had one rigger with cheater and one dipsey SD fly running. The rigger got everything with blue/green/silver NK's down 60 ft. It should only get better. Cheers ">
  6. Ouch....i had a complete acl tear when i was 15 yrs old (skiing). I tried rehab and a knee brace for about 10 years but still had consistent problems with it "popping" on me. The doctor said either slow down and take up lawn darts or have reconstructive surgery. I chose surgery and would have to say i'm 95% back to normal. I wear my brace only when playing hard, ie: hockey, snowboarding, and only for peace of mind. I'm on 15yrs post surgery and never looked back. I wish i did it sooner! Good luck with it.
  7. I have been to the massassauga, but stayed at a friends cottage. His lake borders the park on the west side and has access for paddlers (with parking). from this location the only issue for you is a 700 metre portage to the next lake where the camping is located. Ive done the portage and would says it would be ok for the older kids (even the 4 yr old) as the trail is well worn. You might have to make a couple trips to haul your gear, though. The scenery and fishing are great and well worth it. TONS of little smallies (less than 1lb) for the kids with many 3-5lb smallies as well.
  8. I have a 17ft, 40hp tiller that i use on lake O all the time. Like Bill said, pick your days. At first light it can be like glass. I usually go from 6-10am. I never target lakers so i can't help you there but salmon and rainbows are relatively simple to catch. Spoons, flasher/fly, dipsy's, meat and line counter reel is all you need. PM me if you like. There's nothing like a 30lb chinny!
  9. My kids are young......I'm up at 530-6am everyday! LOL...........I can't remember when i slept in past 630am. Geoff looks like rain early in the week.....hmmmm? As for this afternoon....impossible. MTB - I try not to look or touch the Loomis rods. I need to invest into my kids education fund. Lol.
  10. Nice setup. I have the stradic 2500 FI and a casting compre rod (paired with a curado). You can't go wrong with Shimano!
  11. Well, its been a while since I've been out and even though conditions were not favourable I managed to land my first brown. And what thick shoulders he had!. I first thought I had a snag, until it started to move. He didn't fight very much, more of a sluggish pull. However, I was pretty excited when I realized it was a brown. Overall, a pretty decent morning. I also managed 3 small bows as well. All fish were hiding under wood. Thanks for reading.
  12. Great fish! That lamprey mark looks deep. I love getting out before work as well. Hopefully this week.
  13. Geoff, i will bring you some. She was a little big for my liking, and the others were too small. We can have a friendly smoke off! Bring your best recipe.
  14. Yes nice combo..... Now I know why they're called knuckbusters. lol. As soon as I set the hook she ran 20-30 yrds.
  15. I managed to get out today and to my surprise the river was fishable. When I started the visibility was about 8" and when I left it started to clear and turn "green". Too bad I ran out of bait. I only took the one pic. Thanks
  16. Hey thanks everyone for the responses and Geoff I might take you up on your offer!
  17. Not quite. I still need lots of practice! However, I basically stood in the water at the top of the run and let it drift 20-30 yds.
  18. So, I picked up a centre pin from GBW on the weekend (btw it was nice meeting you and thanks) and got out to a trib today. Needless to say casting is completely different from my usual spinning outfit. It probably took a dozen or so casts to toss the float 20ft! Compound the low and crystal clear conditions fishing was tough, but I was determined to learn.......The most obvious benefit of the pin is how you can keep most of the line off the water and still have a natural drift. The second is the "hand to hand" battle with the fish. Anyway, after spooking all the fish in each pool due to my less than stealthy casts, I worked my way down to a favourite hole. This time I casted way upstream and drifted into the deeper hole. Finally, success.......3 casts and 3 bows! They were anything to brag about, but what a rush to see the float drop and then to palm the drag. I now understand why so many guys use a pin! I'm hooked. Thanks for reading.
  19. Northerpike65, its best to take a look for your self each time it rains. This way you can judge how the rain will affect your local trib/river. Over time you will develop a "feel" of the rivers and decide which will be fishable. You will usually be able to predict when to go, but sometimes you will run into chocolate milk......lol. For example, I was out driving today and noticed 3 tribs to be very fishable and 1 questionable. Anyway good luck.
  20. I was out today and surprisingly the water had about 2-3 ft visibility. I went 6 for 7 (all bows) with 3 over 18". The fish seemed to turn on during the down pours. My phone camera will not allow me to upload the pics.....so no fish porn.....sorry.
  21. Hi Everyone This is my first post. Managed to get out on Lake O with my new (to me) rig. Some of you might recognize the boat as I purchased her from a fellow OFC member, Gerritt. I have to say it was a pleasure doing business with him and all the custom work he put into the boat is simply amazing. So, we launched out of whitby at 5:30 am and had this king by 6am. Not a bad start for the maiden voyage! Actually, this fish was a fluke as I was reeling in to check the line and about half way in this guy hammered my spoon. He made some impressive runs and stayed down deep. I'm guessing 20lbs. Now, I normally would give the first fish to my guest but being the first trip I just had to have the honours, lol. 2nd fish came around 9am and weighed in around 17lbs. His first ever salmon! Anyhow, a great day on the water with my new rig and neighbour! Thanks for reading. recap: launch- whitby fow - 80-140 ft down - 50 ft lure - green silver NK, spin doc/fly combo (both on dipsy) speed - 2.6mph
  22. The SLR fall under Canadian National Parks, such as Banff, Jasper, Bruce Peninsula etc.... there are a few National parks in Ontario. Look under Parks Canada. There are camping opportunities on actual islands in the St Law.....
  23. Thanks guys. I'll try this first.
  24. Hi I was using the motor all morning when it suddenly quit. I initially thought the battery died, but after hooking up two different fully charged batteries.....nothing....I also changed the battery in the foot control....and nothing. The foot control doesn't even make any sound when any button is pressed. I read some reviews on the motor through BPS comments area and found a blown circuit board was somewhat common for this motor. I was wondering if anyone knows how much is costs to replace? A family friend lets me use his boat and this happens! Just my luck. I hope this doesn't cost me too much to fix. LOL. Thanks
