  1. Had one, until the battery died. It's only good for light maintenance work between weekends. And you have to empty it. Does avoid hazards like stairs. Works great on hardwood. Not so good on other textured surfaces. If you're a clean nut, they are good.
  2. I have been offered 2 boats. 12 footer with trailer and a 30 footer. It is not the cost of the boat but the cost of upkeep that worries me. The boating season is 8 months/yr. = 32 weekends/yr minus time for family commitments. Background: I have a full time job, 9-5. I plan to get the pleasure craft card. I have a long drive way to store a boat. I know that 9.9HP motor = no insurance. I have a Dodge Grand Caravan 2011 with 350HP, and intend on putting on a towing package with transmission cooler. One friend said that it's better to use someone else's boat. Someone said to me, a big boat is a big hassle. And the 2 happiest days for a boat owner are: the day he bought the boat and the day he sold the boat. Is it worth it? Sleepjigging
  3. Nice way to cover up the scar with them fishies. (Unless they went through your thigh.) I appreciate that you fish like there is no tomorrow. Great post. Sleepy
  4. The new units have a "FLASHER MODE". In the end, it just let's you see down the water.
  5. Prices come down every year, with more features included. Just like a computer. I have just a plain Humminbird® PiranhaMAX™ 170 adapted for ice. Would not go ice fishing without it, because without it, I would be fishing blind.
  6. Awesome. How do you get there? Sleepy
  7. Wow, that is obscene.
  8. I am a huge fan of Moosebunk's epic posts. I would rather spend the money on travel to the places that he has been, rather than on gear. This year I calculated that I spent money on gasoline vs gear 5:1. Unfortunately, once we get to a wonderful new place, we know almost nothing about fishing there. So we bring everything we own, in case we need that lure/rod... Sleepy
  9. The more I have learned, the less I bring with me. I used to have a tackle box with a random assortment of "I better have one of theses". I don't have a boat but I wish I had one. I go shore fishing, when the fish come to shore. I use whatever catches fish. I like using plastics, but there are times that live bait is king. I readily admit that I don't have the expertise to APPRECIATE high end equipment. However, if you can go to a spot where there IS fish, and if you can put something in front of the fish that it will eat, the rest is just making sure that the hook stays in its mouth long enough for you to haul it in. Then comes the bragging of the catch to you buddies. And that is what you need to catch...
  10. Oh yeah, the other thing you need when you go fishing is a FISHING BUDDY. It's no fun by yourself. And a Fishing Buddy is not your girlfriend or wife. They are nice and all, but they just don't understand the fishing disease. Sleepy
  11. You guy all missed the most important thing that is needed in "fishing". the FISH. You go fishing in a toilet bowl, you won't catch anything. The most important thing in fishing is to go where the fish are. By that, I mean you need knowledge/experience. Sleepy
  12. biggest challenge: Parking
  13. Hooters is a FAMILY establishment.
  14. http://www.jackslakelodge.com/ Thanks. The website says 2hr from Toronto. 204km according to Google Maps. That actually may work. Jiggy
  15. I am usually fish Simcoe for perch/whitefish/trout. Looking to catch some Crappies. Does anyone know an hut operator who can put me on fish, within 2hr drive from Toronto. Thanks in advance. Jiggy
  16. Great stuff. I am scheduling my fishing calendar according to what you caught. Jiggy
  17. Thanks everyone. We are going to come up and have a look around. Any time I can get away from Toronto makes a good road trip. And there will be fishing. Jiggy
  18. So a friend asks me, "The winter boots for sale in Toronto seems inadequate. Know any place up north for good stuff?" I say, "Let's go to North Bay. They have real winters. They must have the goods to survive the cold. And the OFC people are real knowledgeable." So he's looking forward to come up to Lake Nipissing. I figure we'll come up on a Saturday in November and may stay overnight. Any one know good places to shop, and fish? My friend is into Crappies. I like all fish. Please PM me, if you like, about the fishing that is. Jiggy
  19. A warm front just went through, with rain and fog, but it was part of a low pressure system. Is this equal to a "cold front" where the pressure drops and fish go into lock jaw mode? Jiggy
  20. Careful! Using mice might get you wacked by other fishman (while you are at the side of your boat with your fly down)
  21. Thank you all for the firestorm of opinion. I think it's best left to necessity to revisit the topic - like Survivorman having to EAT a mouse. I would much rather catch a fish to eat using a mouse if I had to.
  22. Came up in the other thread on mice. Don't recall mice listed on bait section of regulations. Jiggy
  23. Nice to see you finally. Through 16 pages of your posts, it was always you holding the camera, documenting the old man, and the wiring. It's nice to see you with a fish. Nice FishNWires!
  24. Went out Sunday 19th to Minet's point. Ice was 5-6" with 3" water on top of it and 2 inches snow on top of that. Got 1 Herring at 73'. Released. Moved around for a couple of hours, but could not find any fish after about 7 holes. (A) Went closer to shore to find some perch. Found them in about 45'. (B ) All dinks. Found the bottom to be like the diagram. Saw schools of something on the sonar suspended 16'-30'. (D) Tried live minnows , but they were very light biters, and stole the minnows mostly. I can feel a bite pretty good, even on little dink perch, but these suspended guys were either smaller than that or softer (like little gobies - but I know gobies don't suspend, and not like smelt - because I have caught smelt before, and they are aggressive when they strike). Any thoughts on what these suspended fish are : perch/crappie/smelt... So where are the fish usually? People often say "fish the drop off" - do they mean at B,C,D,E (at the edge of the underwater cliff) or F?
  25. These baits look like the ones that dollarama carries, just different colors.
