  1. Probably Westjet. I'm working on getting airfare to Yellowknife included as part of the package through Tourism.
  2. The details are still being worked out Dara. Like I mentioned earlier in the thread I probably jumped the gun a bit as far as how this promotion was going to be run. Only thing I'm sure of is it'll be a great contest!
  3. I've been finding it difficult to verbalize precisely how I feel about all of this. Thank you.
  4. Or a honey badger, cause they're just craaazy!
  5. You are in fact 150% correct sir. Initially I didn't realize this and had just came from a meeting about the contest where we were bouncing all kinds of different ideas around. Like I said before there will be a free trip along with a bunch of other really cool stuff. Among other things I'm working hard with Tourism NWT to get flights to Yellowknife covered as well. I'm just not sure yet how the contest will be run, only that there will be one. Cheers
  6. Nope. My suggestion to you is smoke another fatty and stick to the political threads.
  7. Maybe not actually. Not sure precisely how this promotion will be held, all I know for sure is there will be a contest!
  8. Have to ask, what are you using to cook your meals? Not the proposed fish fry.
  9. Man that is awesome! I'm not as big on ice fishing as I used to be but that is something I'd love to do.
  10. What, Chris didn't tell you I'd fish you to death if you're in the same boat as me???
  11. I'm not sure yet although there's no way it'll be much more than $100. My guess is 10 bucks would get more entries. If it IS $100 your odds are going to be pretty excellent.
  12. FWIW there will be a cost to enter, although I don't know what that will be yet. It won't be an insane amount though. The premise being I need to raise some capital so the spring issue of the magazine can be printed.
  13. For sure! The knuckle dragging snub nosed bank mutants seem to like fishing the east tribs. I avoid those people at all costs.
  14. Just before New Years Dave Orr and I were set to drift the Salmon River in NY in pontoons for a couple of days. Well horrible weather and a huge rise in water levels put the kibosh on those plans. With the desire to fish still strong and a free pass from my wife to go, we needed to figure out an alternative quickly. I have a friend with a jet boat in Grand Rapids Michigan. I called Shawn at virtually the last minute and miraculously he had the time off and wanted to fish. Perfect! We headed in the other direction and made the drive to Newaygo in record time. They had their own dose of foul weather over there. Just prior to our arrival they were hit with a pretty big snow and ice storm dropping the water temps into the high 30's fahrenheit. What this did was really shut the fish down, but as I always like to say "if they're there I'll catch them!". We slowed things down and concentrated on the deeper winter holes where the fish were stacked up. Lighter fluorocarbon tippet, smaller beads in the 8mm range and most importantly fresh skein was the ticket. In colder water a glob of fresh skein will release a ton of scent compared to more mature roe and the fish seemed to like it! We didn't set the world on fire but we caught a bunch of nice fish and shared a lot of laughs. I rarely see Dave anymore so it was pretty cool to fish with him again before he headed back to Yellowknife. My buddy Shawn is another friend I rarely see, so from that perspective alone the trip was a success! Here's a bunch of photos and a short video highlighting the action... Cheers, Mike
  15. Don't have all the details yet, but this will not be a draw, I can tell you the winner will be chosen by a panel of judges. I'll likely have entrants include a photo and 50 words on why they should win. My educated guess is anyone who participates will likely have pretty decent odds of winning.
  16. Okay Terry. Literally the only person on this board who your comment could possibly be directed at is me, so I'm going to respond. To date I have made nothing, not one dime directly or indirectly related to my online reports which take on average 40-60 hours to construct and post. I still have a full time job and while I do have the ability to take time off I sure don't get 8-9 weeks of paid holiday a year. When I go on these trips I lose money. I've told my wife it's for a reason...that there's a light at the end of the tunnel and she's always supported me, but there's a limit. This is what I love and yes, I'm trying against all odds to make a living at it, so if you want to call that an agenda then so be it. I call it following my dream. I have been an active member of this board for a long time and would hope that some of the other long time members would cut me some slack and offer even a little support. Many do, and I thank those people profusely. The magazine that I launched late last fall cost more than $50,000 to release without a single cent being recouped. I'm selling that issue for $5 and trust me no one is making a dime on that either. Believe me when I tell you I'm currently on the edge of a deep precipice, things could quite easily go either way. Comments like yours hurt considering the effort I'm giving here with zero money being made at least to date. Back to the thread...Bunk's report on Great Slave was easily my personal favorite. Thoroughly enjoyed reading that one.
  17. I'm not quite ready to launch this promotion yet, but I'm so stoked about it I'm going to leak a little info early. I will be holding a contest for one very lucky angler to join me August 6-13 at Frontier Lodge on the east arm of Great Slave! We will be guided by Corey Myers who is an unbelievably nice young man and truly excellent angler. Corey has been guiding at Frontier for years and his good humor and skill will add a lot to this trip! There will be a number of other companies sponsoring this contest, meaning whoever wins is going to get a pretty epic prize package besides just the trip itself! Epic trophy lake trout, giant pike, and "maybe" the best arctic grayling fishing in the world in the Stark River right next to the lodge. Have a look at this: And Frontier's website: http://www.frontierfishinglodge.com/ To say I'm excited about this is an understatement, details to follow!
  18. Actually zone 8 in N/E Ontario bass are open year round Steve. There's a bunch of back lakes I have fished within ON not far from my camp in QC that are killer in late May - early June. Don't know about anywhere else in QC, but my section of N/W Quebec bass have a closed season. You're right about NW Ontario though. Best smallmouth fishing in the province, no closed season and tons of fly in outfitters with bass as an option.
  19. Beat me to it by seconds, thanks for the plug. LOL! Been wondering about you lately, you dropped off the face of the earth.
  20. Pretty sure I can help. Have your friend email me directly at [email protected] Cheers, Mike
  21. I'm pulling for you Sam. To whoever dropped off the package you're a good man.
  22. All the best to you and everyone else on the OFC board in 2016 Roy!
  23. That would be Tom's wife, nice lady, and yes a worthy adversary. I can tell you that when I'm working with loose mature roe like she ties I'm lightning fast. But can I beat her? Don't know. She also wraps a rod pretty quickly too. As Tom said to me once "You go for coffee and come back - rod done!!!"
