  1. booyah's are my favorite, but like everyone has said the wire gauge is way too thin. but makes sense from a business perspective, just means you gotta buy more! favorite colour: white (no contest) never tried one with a trailer hook, but definitely am gonna give'er a try. might've stuck a few short strikers if i had one on.
  2. I've only been stopped by a CO once. Very pleasant experience, just asked for my license and asked how the fishin's been. But I've been stopped numerous times by the OPP which has not always been the best experience thats for sure. Dunno if its because i'm younger that they feel the need to talk down to me or whether its because they're havin a bad day or somethin. Either way its hard to be respectful when you're not shown any respect. Almost as if i'm guilty until i prove myself innocent. Ah well, worse things happen in life
  3. I've got an 18 hourse Evinrude sittin out back. My grandfather bought it back in the 1960's. Ran till we replaced it with a much newer 25 hourse merc
  4. I find i only keep fish when i'm ice fishing. something about freezin my ass off for hours makes me think i deserve a nice fresh caught fish dinner when i get home. But in the summer i only keep fish if they're mortally wounded or if a buddy wants a few for home.
  5. I'm pretty sure this topic has been on this board before but i just can't help myself... Went out and hit the pier in search of some rainbows a couple days ago (as did a whole lot of other people that morning haha) and i've got my trusty extendable handled net with me, of course. But heres what gets me, there are always people fishing on the pier that don't have or have access to a net to successfully land there fish, if they get one. Its not like i really mind lending my net out to someone so they can land there fish, but to me, you kinda shouldn't be out pier fishing without one. What if everyone decided to rely on everyone else to have one? I didn't start pier fishing till last year because i couldn't afford an extendable net till then (and never got one for christmas ). Anyone else feel this way or is it just me?
  6. I was just wondering if anyone new what the ice conditions were like on the ol' BOQ, particularily by the trent river mouth. Is it safe or should i be lookin at somethin like Scugog or smaller nothern lakes? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  7. i'm definitely game as long as i'm not working. Beers at Rhino's after
  8. a buddy of mine has a cottage up there. gorgeous lake and the fishing is definitely decent. caught some nice largies and some pike. the pike we caught werent huge but i had a biggun follow my bucktail. some big fish in there for sure. who knows might see ya up there in the summer
  9. glad to hear no one was hurt. must've been quite an adrenaline rush to have front row tickets to that "event". but on a side note, i've always kinda wondered about that, why is there 12 cruisers following one car... why not just 6? whats the real difference in the end? 6 cops swarming the idiots car or 24 cops swarming the idiots car? i'm not gonna lie, if i was a cop there's no way i'd wanna miss out on that action..
  10. ok, heres the thing... i have 2 different musky outfits, one rod is medium heavy, the other is heavy. one i use to throw small to mediate size bucktails and what not, the other to throw big bucktails. haha, as you can see my favorite musky bait is bucktails. anyway, my question is should i get a better hookset on my lighter rod or on my pool cue? i figure i should be getting a better hookset from the heavier rod, but i've hardly ever missed a fish on my lighter rod. where as i've lost quite a few on my heavier rod. the sharpness of the hooks doesnt have anything to do with it either... they're all sticky sharp. any ideas?
  11. nope, definitely not just you. i have th same problem with my PF. although i can sometimes git'er off the mount easily, most of the time i gotta apply some good force to git'er to budge.
  12. "Think about it buddy, 7 million boaters in Canada, nearly a million boats in Ontario alone, and only 200 people die per year. Of course my heart goes out to the families of those guys but c'mon. This whole thing is blown way out of proportion." missin a factor there though... busy boating season is only what? 4 months or so? 6 or so months for me... but i'm just that lucky
  13. insurance? i sure hope not. once again... make boating so expensive that only the rich can afford to do it? thats just Bull. haha, as for country and "c-rap" being terrible, you're just keeping the trend alive. dont forget, your parents hated your music and there parents hated there music. funny how that goes...
  14. there are a lot of good points here and a lot of things that will/should be considered for future laws/regulations. what it all boils down to is perspective, really. for example a few posts back there was a comment made that a guy in pulling a waterskiier zoomed by a guy who was fishing close to there dock. now that is irresponsible BUT i for one waterski and here's the problem... i start off on two ski's make a quick jaunt and then drop a ski. i ALWAYS drop the ski right close to my dock which makes sure it COMPLETELY out of the way of other boaters. i cant exactly do that when theres a guy parked in front of my dock. luckily for me if there are fishermen parked in front of my dock i jsut drop my ski in front of my cousins cottage. but not everyone has that luxury. my question is, why would you want to fish in front of a dock where someone was previously splashing around in the water and what not? as for the increased expenses for launching boats, docking and what not. i dont agree with that at all. to make boating/fishing an elitest past time is down right rediculous. i thought the idea was to spread the joy and relaxation of fishing. not confine it to the people that can afford it. kinda sounds like golf to me... but i wont get into that. finally, big boats vs small boats. thats a tricky one for sure. personally i think you run the risk of encountering big boats. nothing you can do about. each boat has every right to be there. you'd hope people would use common courtesy but thats not always the case. like people have said previously its a factor that must be considered. kinda like how i will NEVER take my 16.5 ft lund out on lake O. simply because bigger boats, bigger waves and all that stuff. too many factors that could possibly swamp my baby. well thats pretty much the end of my rant. its always interesting to see everyones point of view. oh, just as a side note, i also own a jetski. it kinda blows people away that i fish at least 3 times a week from the march to nov 15 and own a jetski. but you gotta see it from my point of view, i'm a young buck... and girls like jetski's no two ways about it. i stay WAY clear of fishermen (unless of course they're parked in front of my dock, not much i can do about that). so if you see me jumpin your wake when you're goin across the lake... dont think i'm tryin to impress you... i'm tryin to impress your daughter hahaha. anyway guys just my two cents... by all means let me know what ya think
  15. just for clarity sake... sailboats, when sailing, always have the right of way. unfortunately they cant just turn and start heading up-wind. but i definitely agree that there are some stupid boaters out there. just pure ignorance... but it only seems to be really bad on weekends. and if she's REAL bad, i head into the weeds... not too many waterskiers/jetskiers wanna venture in there.
  16. i've been pulled over by the OPP so many times now its not even funny. half of'em dont even know whats legal and what isnt. is fishing liscences and what not even part of there jurisdiction anyway? isnt bodies of water a Federal matter not a Provincial matter? i've always wondered this. i even asked an OPP officer and he couldnt give me a straight answer. but anyway as for the sport or conservation liscences.... i'm conservation all the way. not gonna keep any of the muskies i catch. only keep any other fish if its hooked deep. so why would i spend the extra bucks for a liscence that doesnt suit me? i'm not givin the government anymore money than they already screw me out of. its not like those few extra bucks ACTUALLY goes to the MNR.
  17. ahhh the ol' BBQ is acting up... my advice, do exactly what DanC said. take your make and model number into whichever hardware store you go to, they'll bring out a little book (i think its pink this year if i'm not mistaken) and they'll order you the exact burner that was meant for your BBQ. its soooo much easier installing something that is meant to be there. generic burners can work, but like DanC said not the easiest or safest things to deal with. when all else fails, bring'er to ol' Gilmer's Homehardware in good ol' port hope... and i'll install it for ya!
  18. there are some real gems on here, thats for sure. - i'm not an alcoholic, alcohilcs go to meetings... i'm just a drunk - when in doubt blame it on the guy that doesnt speak english (from the simpsons except its "if anything goes wrong blame it on Tibor") - in a hundred years from now, everyone thats living on this planet will be gone, so its inconsequential all the things you say all the Bull you stand for. Its more important what you're ready to build, what you're ready to pass down to your children, what you're ready to create. - why does stamp glue taste so magically delicious? (homer simpson) - how do we know the sky isnt red and we're all just colour blind? - you shut your mouth when you're talkin to me
  19. it would definitely be a 7inch bucktail... cant go wrong with a silver blade and blakc buck hair
