  1. OP, Do you have a family or is this solely for your use?
  2. Bill, While you did give good advice with regards to float fishing, the flossing comment was really unnecessary. It's not like the guy suggested putting a hook on the line and then a sinker 2 feet down the line (an actual flossing rig). With the egg sinker first and then a leader/hook, even if the steelhead get the line caught in their mouth they are likely to bump off it once they get down to the egg sinker. This is especially true if you use a longer leader, like you should.
  3. Doesn't the knot hit the last guide? I had a few breakoffs like that last year with the know hitting the last guide and the lure flying off with the leader. I take it I'm doing something wrong. Using 30lb Power Pro with 20lb Seguar leader. I'm using a double uni knot.
  4. The guys using the swivel to connect fluoro to brain, how long are your leaders?
  5. For what it's worth, I never said I party fish on Joe, but yes we do put the fish in one pile. I'm sure everyone can also identify who caught which fish. And no, this isn't so we can get the max limit, since we C&R most of the fish anyways, and rarely actually keep the 6-8 fish total for the 3-4 of us (even though most people catch more than 2 fish). Fish go in one pile since we often rotate holes/rod/tip-ups. I was just pointing out that the CO always seems fine with this. The other point I was making is that it is a stupid law because it is non enforceable. Even if the way it is being "enforced" at the moment counts, it's still pointless. You are with a buddy on Simcoe, caught two whitefish and your buddy caught one. The CO is fine with him keeping the fish as long as he lands it, so assuming you hand him your rod when you have a fish on, what good is this law doing if four rods are still being used?
  6. This is wrong. Nobody would be charged with anything. You are allowed to target a fish species you have already limited out on as long as you are going to C&R. I ice fish Joe quite a bit and at least once a season the CO comes by. I am usually in a group of 3-4 people, he always asks how many fish we have TOTAL, and is fine and on his way as long as number of fish is under the allowed combined possession for the licenses. All our fish go into the same pile, never had a problem with this. In fact, this is how the law should be. Laws are only useful if they are enforceable. Prohibiting party fishing is not really enforceable in most situations. To change you with party fishing a CO would have to watch you catch more than your limit and put the fish over the limit by your buddy. I heard they actually do this with binoculars on Simcoe, but I don't really ice fish there anymore. Either way I really doubt a charge like this would stand up in court, which is why it shouldn't even exist in the first place.
  7. I use the uni to uni as well, but I've had a few little cleos fly off along with the leader while pier casting for salmon. I use 30lb PowerPro with 20lb Seguar leader. The reason I use the brai is to that I can get 200+ yards on my reel in case of a big run. My fluoro leaders are about 6 feet long in this scenario. What am I doing wrong and what should I change about my setup (considering the time to pier cast is coming up!).
  8. I have that exact 400W inverter from CT and use my laptop with a 65W adapter on it no problem. I have also used it at the same time as an air compressor for the minnow bucket with no issues.
  9. Not much you can do other than wrap your tip up base in orange trail marking tape. Idiots are going to be idiots, what can you do.
  10. Again, you are wrong about wolf interactions, especially about interactions between packs. Relationships between different wolf packs are generally hostile. I do agree however that you should eat whatever you hunt for. And yeah people comparing wolves to coyotes are l-o-l. And again, stop making the intelligence point. Wolves' social capabilities do not make it any more or less intelligent than other animals. May I ask what kind of scale you are using to guage intelligence here?
  11. Cram, You are wrong on so many points about wolves. They DO hunt in packs, but they DO NOT organise ambushes. In fact, there is little planned cooperation when they bring down an animal. So before you make sweeping statements, at least get educated. Here's a wiki page to get you started: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gray_Wolf Your emotional/intelligent argument is also out of place. You don't know what an animal thinks or feels, and there are rarely correct ways to rank intelligence. Wolves have a seemingly complicated pack life, but you don't know what that is based on. Ants seemingly have an even more comlicated community life than wolves, a life that even humans would have difficulty organising. Is an ant smarter than you?
  12. Great report! May I ask where you get the red wire rod stands? I've been looking for something like that for a while was even considering making my own, but I've seen a few people with them. Thanks!
  13. I went out on the 24th also off 9th line an fished 95FOW from about 9:30 to 2:00. I marked fish constantly but could not get them to take the Williams, tube jigs, jigging raps. They would not even follow the bait up, just take a look and swim off. What am I doing wrong?
  14. I keep mine in a bucket with an aerator, but no filter. I change the water every week or so, using tap water that I let stand for a couple of days prior to changing it. I have a really useful file in PDF format that lists probably all the baitfish in Ontario and how to identify them. Is there a way to share it?
  15. That fish is called a Karas' in russian (the last s is soft). Not sure what it's called in English but it's a carp species. Very tasty.
