  1. Ive had my Symetre for 6 years now and it still looks new. Well, because I never used it. Why? 1. Too Nice 2. My most expensive reel 3. I love it too much 4. Most important though is that my Daiwa, Mitchells, Abu Garcia, just wont break or wear out. Like my Fenwick rod which Ive had for three years and looks new, Why 1. Too Nice 2. My most expensive reel 3. I love it too much 4. Most important though is that my Cherrywood, Lightning, Ugly Stick , just wont break or wear out.
  2. Military worked for me. Had a job with no layoffs, never made me rich but payed for my families benefits, gave me self worth, did jobs that were unique, payed for my moving and real estate fees, set me up with a financial adviser, and with some sacrifice, you start an annuity starting at 25 years service. For me 50% of my best last fife years. Gives you incentive to climb the ladder. Now I have an unstressful job that I enjoy, looking forward to be mortgage free at 52 years old next year. Like I said, it will not make you rich, but if you plan you can come out ahead or at least debt free by the time you do 25 years service. BUT YOU HAVE TO MOVE AND SACRAFICE. Oh and you can earn a trade or do your trade while helping your Country and supporting your fellow Soldiers while in uniform with your Countries flag om your left shoulder. I never ever regretted the move to Calgary from Montreal to join the service.
  3. My Biggest fish ever, and I still have her.
  4. Things didnt start off too well. I decided to fish Cowan but this time about 25 Kms North towards Green and Meadow Lakes to a spot that I know of. There is a small trail off the Highway that has a slight incline no more than 50 meters long. I got stuck and decided to go to the bottom of the hill so I could take a run at her. No go, I figured this is going to cost me money and time. It just so happened there was a guy on the lake in the middle of nowhere four wheeling that I flagged down. With my tow rope and his pickup I was on my way back to Big River. I decided to try out a spot where I got skunked two weeks ago. I drilled four holes and as I was baiting my second hole I got a bite on the first hole. A nice pike and within minutes. It would be my only bite for the next couple of hours. Regrettably I threw him back thinking I would not be skunked. At this time I have purchased a 93 Pathfinder for $500 and another $300 for a new clutch which I am hoping will work out as decent vehicle to do some exploring this summer off road. I am trusting my daughters Boy friend on his word that this is a great vehicle with little rust which is an easy fix, clean inside, great engine and starts up first shot. At that price Im taking my chances. Any thoughts on the 93 Pathfinder
  5. Yup, and whats Ironic is this Lawyer that is quick for the Pot of Gold, Oops I mean Litigation, was able to spiel how Toyota is ripping the customers with a quick fix before the Part even came out. Well I guess, when your a Lawyer that is about to sue, you want to be there first in the Race for the Pot of Gold, Oops I mean Litigants. Does anybody remember when Audi had the same problem a few years back. It near cost them a chunk of the North American Market. Funny thing is, nobody ever found out the problem if there ever was one. What they did anyways was spread the distance between the Foot Brake and the Gas pedal in all their cars. Coincidental or not, no more runaway Audies since.
  6. I would not worry about Toyota. Just think of all the recalls the big three have had. Think OK of the ones they hid. This really bugs me. A car literally having its paint peel off. Yup, they have always been a domestic. As far as Toyota going down hill, only the big three can ever hope. Once Toyota sorts out this part that is defective (Made In Mississauga) all will be well. By the way,I own an 09 Corolla.
  7. WOW thanks for the info, that's a good Idea, Reference taping the antlers. What I did was boiled and bleached the top of the skull just below the antlers. The paint for the skull is a good idea too. As a matter of fact, what I found and left had the spine and skull intact. What i have sitting in the shop are the antlers with the small portion of the skull. That one Im looking for Ideas how to mount, The Internet and Youtube does not help me
  8. No I never took the rack all though I thought about it. Just a couple of weeks ago I got a rack given too me and was told to boil the skin and grey matter out. It stunk the kitchen to high heaven as I didnt want to go through that again. So now I have a rack hanging on a rope at my shop and Im waiting to make a mount. Any Ideas as I never made one before. I heard you can buy a mount kit, however there is non in this city unfortunately. Now you got me thinking that I should of grabbed the rack. I guess Id have to figure how to detach it. Humm, might be worth making another trip.
  9. I took my first trip this year into a back lake and tried out some ice fishing. I discovered this place last winter and actually tried it out for ice fishing. Both tries would bring me no luck. In the summer this was actually a fun lake to canoe and fish in. I was actually catching pike, casting close to shore nailing the pike top water. Here are some sight pictures. Now some really interesting pictures, this is what was seen sticking up about 20 meters from the shoreline Tracks leading to me where the kill is To me Im guessing a set of wolf tracks that had a look at the kill then went on its way. Close up of the tracks. Ill start to uncover the carcass and here's whats left Just a skull, antlers and a backbone picked off clean. There are no legs, and no ribs. Im assuming this was killed on the spot before the last snow fall or wind storm. Is it a wolf kill? no doubt birds got to it, but where are the ribs and legs. Any Ideas?
  10. Do you really want to know? put it this way, when they say a high of minus 15, Ill put my skates on and give it a whirl till my toes freeze. About 30 minutes
  11. Also try loosening both screws that hold the bail then re-tighten. Ive done that at times as sometimes the bail gets twisted.
  12. OH my god, four Leafs to Calgary. THE VIRUS IS SPREADING
  13. I just talked to my dealer face to face and you both hit it on the nail according to my dealer in Saskatchewan. Monday it goes in and they will check the mats to ensure that they are original Toyota, and no extra matting underneath, as well as they are pinned to the two floor hooks. He will also test the pedal, they have some sort of instrument that will test the press and depress pressure. Apparently the problem with the pedal is once you take your foot off the pedal it sticks or decelerates abnormally slowly. There are the two different manufacturers and yes it is the Toronto/Mississauga part that is the culprit. His test requires testing once then letting the car sit for two hours then doing a second time. If it passes, we are good to go unless Toyota decides to replace the part anyways. I heard both good and bad about the company because of this. Since they have been outstanding in the past I will believe the good comment. Toyota is unique in that it is recalling all their vehicles because it is against their Culture and Mission Statement not to knowingly sell defective cars. I give them kudus to completely stop any further manafacturing till it is corrected. I Never heard the Big Three doing that. Remember when this exact thing happened to Audi. It near killed their North American Market and later it was found out there was no problem however they never the less spread their Break and Gas pedals further apart any ways.
  14. Yea between the storms I had a few hours of Ice Fishing on Cowan. I wanted to try a walk in lake but with all this snow I figured Id stay close than risk getting stuck some where. I had a couple of nibbles and stolen minnows which I figure must of been something else than Pike. Anyways I decided to make my very first movies. Heres my attempt with Spike playing Hockey and soccer. Check out how energetic the little guy is. what a hoot. Hockey Soccer Ice fishing

  16. Tightline is right, look no more and plan. Ive been there about a dozen times when I was posted the one year in Borden before I got out. Its fairly secluded campsites meaning if your going to visit another site you have to Bush Whack or swim. Don't cheap out and borrow or rent a Canoe. In the strait is quite protected from the winds. I like some of the sites because there is great night fishing from shore because of the drop offs. Find a Map and book.
  17. Fantastic, its great that she can dedicate herself to a sport at her age. Well done. Im glad for you and Id be so proud. Great.

  21. I got out for a few hours on Saturday and not even a Bite. I even fished the same hole as last weekend where I caught three pike. Next week depending on the weather I may attempt a walk in lake that I fished in the summer. I bought this holder from Walmarts which hopefully will do the trick. a guy I bumped into suggested to put a long stick on the base to help it from tipping. My portable ice shack. Good if there isn't anymore snow. These minnows were not nearly as frozen as the ones I was using last week. They were easy to dig out. Unfortunately I only used 3 of them Yea I think next week Ill try another lake.
  22. Sorry guys, but the Minnows are bought frozen in a styrafoam worm like bucket. In the summer its easy to pick out individual minnows. Not so easy out on the ice. I ended picking pieces out with a Knife. Im thinking maybe I should dig out the minnows and then put in a baggy just prior to the trip. Sinker, I understand what your saying as I seen such a rig at Walmart that clips to a bucket for about $3. Unless I carry 2 Buckets at least it will cover one rod.
