It's one of the tools I use routinely at work...a "Pike pole". Used when buildings are burning and you need to rip ceilings and walls down to get to inaccessible or hidden fire.

Are you certain of them not being considered common law by the CCRA? I'm not completely certain, but I do seem to recall something along the lines of 6 months of cohabitation is all it takes to be legally considered common law. Having a joint mortgage and residence just may be the icing on the cake that confirms to the government they are. Worth exploring some more if not 100% certain. It may be that if in a lawyers eyes they are believed to have been common law, than there may be a route through the courts and marriage laws which could force the sale of the 'matrimonial' house. Don't let your daughter do any favours for this guy, as at some point it's going to come around and bite her in the Is it possible she was used just to get the mortgage, knowing he couldn't qualify on his own? Not knowing the situation, just food for thought. If their union has been split, then any joint assets should be split as well including getting completely out of the mortgage.

Have you been doing some local newspaper work since? Name seems familiar from the Burlington Post I think.

spear gun should do the trick.

Employee: "Sorry I missed the last 2 weeks of work boss, I was sick" Boss: "Need a doctors note" Employee: "Sure boss. Just go see my doctor...he'll give you one" Boss: "Don't let the door hit you on the way out to the employment line." Defense: "Well your honor, I've found precedent that shows my client should be acquitted" Judge: "Lets see it" Defense: "It's at the library...ask for Librarian Jennie, she'll help you find it judge" Judge: "Guilty, court dismissed" Sorry, couldn't resist pointing out how "the world goes 'round"

The Burlington Bay area has a number of Bald Eagles. LaSalle Park in Burlington has at least 1 nesting pair, and we've seen at least 2 juvenile birds as well. In the hard water season from shore you can see an adult sitting out in the middle of the bay at the edge of the ice at the open water watching for food swimming by. Best seen through binoculars, quite distinctive white head and huge curved beak. Seagulls always dive bombing at it. It's quite impressive to be in your yard and watch these impressive creatures gliding overhead. Who'd have thunk it within site of the steel mills!

You are absolutely right! We were at a friends house and happened to see inside their front hall closet. Well, when she saw his 50-60 ball caps, she said she would never bug me again about how many I have, which has only been 5! So, I look forward to applying the same logic to fishing! I have only 5 rods so far...been fishing for only 8 months (with 3 of those months on the hard water). Now does it matter that 3 of the rods I haven't even used yet? Is there some rule that says I can't get another rod before I've even tried the ones I already have? I think NOT!

For what it's worth, there is a Zebco combo from CT regular $40 on for $10. Here's the link: http://www.canadiantire.ca/browse/product_...D=1246890835482 I'm sure it's got to be at least worth the $10 bucks.

Thanks for the input guys. I hadn't thought of Valens. -
I'm taking the 9 year old fishing on Sunday, and just looking for someplace for some relatively easy shore fishing to get his blood pumping. Doesn't need to be a secret spot, but a place where we're at least going to catch some pan fish / rock bass etc. It'd be nice to show him a nice little Pike. I've heard the conservation areas might be worth checking out (Close to Burlington). Any feedback on which may produce something without being shoulder to shoulder with others? Ideas welcome! Thanks, I'm Hooked.

If I have a 3500lb trailer that says 2" on the tongue
I'mHooked replied to fisher's topic in General Discussion
If by CHANCE you have a hitch failure with an undersized ball, you could run into insurance issues if it's determined things weren't sized properly. That 1/8" could be the difference between your trailer staying attached our not in event of an accident. Your chains will help in that case, however you don't want to be in that position in the first place. Probably a headache to try and avoid. -
...hmm...must have missed those coordinates you posted...

Yep good 'ol Borington (as was referred to in my teens!) Appreciate the thought Tony.

Has she ever swatted a fly? She KILLS flies? How dare she! Obama was raked over the coals earlier just this week, for swatting a fly in a one on one interview. He interupted the interview to watch the fly land and then he smacked it. They even zoomed in on the dead fly on the floor. Well, P3TA apparently is all up in arms as it was still a living creature that just got wacked! Where is your co-workers cut off for what is allowable and what isn't? What gives her the right to impose HER sense of what is ok or moral to do when she probably has "taken a life" at some point herself! -
I was kind of surprised that at OFC member # 5000 +, my chosen name was actually available! I'd have thought would have been considered numerous times before now. You don't know whether I'm enthusiastically interested, or sitting here in pain with 2 barbs of a treble in my neck! (I'll let you know if I inadvertently require immediate medical attention!)

Well if they're underwater then they're fair game for me! I guess I'd like to try for some Bass, Trout, Eyes, Pike. Probably in that order too! Yes, the hard water had been beckoning to me as well! As I don't have a boat, I thought the best way to try some open water was to stand on it when it wasn't as soft. Home's in Burlington, right next to that Oakville place. I must say that my son is a real trooper...he let me try a new rod & reel off the Bronte pier when it was covered with ice & the wind was blowing with temperature about -25. He threw a few casts himself, until it was time to curl up in the fetal position to stay warm. "Just 10 more cast's son, then we'll go!"

Well as mentioned in my introduction Roy, Brown's are the only non-Perch fish I've picked up in the last 24 years! I guess I can cross them off the "before the BIG gates list" Beauty fish Dave! It's the only trout I've ever caught!... Although looking to expand my horizons.

So what's the prevailing preference on choosing felt or tread bottom waders? I gather the felt is for the benefit of better traction on slippery rocks. I would think of tread bottom as being an all round better utility type option. Which is better in particular applications and why? What considerations might I want to keep in mind? Thanks, I'mHooked

Thanks very much for the welcome! Can't say that I get out nearly enough for what I would like, but it's a work in progress!

Hello All. Been lurking since the fall, and felt it's finally time to step up. I'm in my late 30's, and hadn't held a fishing rod from about the age of 13 until last summer, which is about 24 years. I've got an 8 year old boy who needed to have some of those same fun fishing experiences I did when his age. Well, the fall out from that is that "I'm Hooked"! While I haven't been able to catch up on lost time as much as I would like, I'm living & breathing fishing...as much as I can! I try to get away with slipping 4 or 5 new fishing magazines onto the coffee table every month without arousing too much suspicion. Recent experience: 1- I've been to the Niagara Whirlpool twice in Nov/Dec last year and was rewarded with a nice Brown each time at about 19"-20" (4-5 lbs ?!?) Both father and father-in-law skunked both times...and they're the "seasoned vets" 2- Got out to the BOQ for 1 seriously cold weekend in Feb. which only yielded a few decent Perch. The Eyes weren't biting (all 8 huts at Fish Finder Charters skunked all weekend) 3- 1 day out at Jackson's Point in Feb. which had 7 hours of nothing, then 10 minutes of Perching fury! 4- Punched about 35 holes in March up on Moose Lake near Haliburton with only one 18" laker caught by the father-in-law, which went back in the hole. So there's my story and I'm sticking to it! Looking forward to learning and helping out where I can as well. I'm Hooked!
