    You have to in Barrie.

You get in an accident, your insurance company gets a bill for the service supplied by the fire deparment. OR atleast that what they're trying to do, not sure if it's passed yet.

How is this any different. Car accidents are "accidents".. Ice fisherman on thin ice, in crappy conditions, in my opinion, is not an accident.

  2. If you don't like the "fishy" taste, aside from the obvious, and already stated "don't eat fish". You might want to try Crappie. Smaller crappie have very little flavour in my opinion. The larger ones have a bit more flavour. But compared to Perch, or Walleye, they don't have nearly as much fishy flavour.

I have some family members who don't really like fresh fish. But they LOVE fresh crappie.

Edit.. I did't see that BB already post about this.

  3. In the $100 range.

You might be limited to buying used.

What do you want to use it for? Ice, Boat, Canoe..

I've seen the Piranah max sell in the $100 range. I've used them before, and for a entry level unit, they work alright.

  4. If you are so inclined read the comments from readers attached to the various news articles. That is how the much of the general, non-outdoors, public views all of us.

It's bound to happen... Kind of makes your blood boil a little bit eh!

The sad part of it is.. They have every right to think that.. These guys give safe ice fisherman a bad rap.

  5. It seems to be that if you go out on the ice and fall through, you are an idiot, jerk, dumb, stupid or Darwin's candidate, etc. If you don't go through the ice you are an expert, knowledgeable ice fisherman, experienced, careful, safety minded, or I have been doing this for 20 years and never fell through. etc.

Sometimes the former are the same people as the latter. The only difference is whether you break through the ice or not.

    Tom.

I try hard not to flame people on OFC. But what you said is not the case at all.

All the ice fisherman that I fish with, who I trust with my life, all gave up on this area last weekend. They ALL strongly warned everyone to stay away from that area for the rest of this season.

I'm glad these guys all survived, but I'm ashamed on their behalf as an ice fisherman. They shouldn't have been there. End of story.

  6. In that news report, they said the ice was a foot thick in some spots. Where I was last weekend off the 4th the ice was 1" think in spots with 3" of half frozen slush on top. My foot broke through once. Spud went thru in one hit several times.

It's great they everyone survived, and only the idiot on the quad who tried to jump the crack got injured.

Watching the video, I'm very surprised that someone didn't loose their life.

We can sleep easy tonight knowing that no fellow fisherman lost their lives. Hopefully a few people learned a lesson today :wallbash:

  7. I hear ya Brian.

I went to see Mike this weekend, only to find out your guys in the tool room have manditory Saturday overtime. What's with that eh.

My job, I've been working 10 to 20 hours overtime everyweek for the past 2 years straight. It's getting a little stressfull to say the least. Plus the 20+ hours a month on the SAR team, and now my wife is knocked up. Oh boy.. I'm feeling it to brother, I feel your pain. :stretcher:

I'm very thankfull that I can get out and jig, that's my meditation. Soon it will be casting. :Gonefishing:

  8. I'm thinking some sort of back pack.

Maybe cut a hole in the bottom of an old back pack for the shaft to stick out? Or make some sort of rig that you can strap the motor too?

I know my arms would get pretty soar carring a 45lb motor around the bush.

I know there are harnesses you can get for lifting motors, but I don't know where, and how much they cost.. You might be able to modify one to attached to a back back.

  9. Sorry to here about that.

Maybe Simcoe has jadded me a little, but I would never leave a portable hut un-attended on the ice overnight. They're way to easy to steel. Specially would not have left any gear in it.

On Simcoe, they'll break into anything. And if the find anything of value, it's gone. Leaving a portable out on the ice un-attended is just asking for it down here. By Lake Joe, I'm assuming the one in Muskoka? Not that far north. With the unsafe ice on Simcoe, the theifs must be moving north to get their quota.
