  1. My Grandpa isn't one to beat around the bush. He's 83. According to him, the average man lives to be 82. So in his mind, he aint got long.

Every time I see him, he always asks me what I want to get from him when he dies. It makes me feel weird, but I play along. So far he's set aside half a dozen wall mounts (2 bass, a pickerel, a pike and two musky). A few antler mounts (One moose, two caribou, and a few deer), and several other small interesting items he has on display at the house.

Today he sent me home with some interesting fishing items that I thought I would share with you.

The first is a peace of art that he made. My grandpa is an avid artist. He has at least 60 paintings in the house, and several other things he's created in his life time. This is a little dish he made from copper, and did something called copper enamel. Not sure the exact proccess. But the one he chose to give to me was very....Fitting :clapping:

The next was his fishing rod and real. Matching Abu Garcia King Fisher 44. The rod has lost it's backbone, and will never be used. The reel might catch another fish one day though!

He also gave me an old 3 peace bamboo fly rod. The handle can be removed, and put on the other way around. It's in good shape for an old rod.

I have some questions about this rod.

    1. Does any know the make?

    2. How about the rough age of this rod?

    3. What's with the "hex" shape? Is there benefits to this over round?

    4. Does anyone still use nimble light action bamboo rods like this anymore? It gets very thin at the end. 1/8" or less.

    5. What would an old rod like this be worth in this condition?

And finally. Not really fishing related. But this very cool old "Mono pod" seat. Great for carrying along with you on a walk, or hunting.

I enjoy spending time with my Grandparents. There not going to be around forever. I see my grandpa's point in wanting to give away some of his stuff before he dies (hopefully not for a long time). This way he can actually get to see us enjoy it. :)

Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoyed the pictures.

  2. The guys on the edge this morning, they where talking about switching the ground hog out for a Honey Badger the night before ground hog day. See what happens when buddy reaches in there to pull him out.

    That would be exiting!! :stretcher:

  3. Mine is the exact same as before. A printed tag on the back of my outdoors card. 3 year sport. Right below my 3 year small game.

Glad I don't have to deal with the extra Bull of only being a fisherman :whistling:

Unless I'm the only one like this. I don't have this little weird thin card that people are talking about, or a peace of paper to carry along with it.

  4. For some weird reason, my wife gets really mad when I use her nail polish to paint lures. Ends up throwing them out after. I've got a few choice colours in the garage now :whistling:

As for tips on making a bug.. Not sure if I can really help you. I was thinking about making some too. I'm gunna by one from a store first, then use that as a template to make my own.

  5. Down the hole you figure? Or on your walk back to the car? I'm sure Blair or Kevin will keep an eye out the next time they are in that area.

My bag fell off my sleigh a few times in the walk back. Somewhere between the island and the parking lot.. I think near where your truck was parked in the morning, at the top of the rocks where you helped us carry our stuff down to the ice.

Gut feeling tells me that's right where it is. Under 6" of snow..

  6. I found out when I got back home and unpacked, that I dropped a few of the lure that I won in the derby :wallbash::wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:

The "original" Jigga Whopper that Blair donated, and one of Chad's custom pickeral rigs. I was really looking forward to that, it looked like it would be perfect for the trench that I troll in the spring.

Ah well.. what can ya do. Considering what we went through the night before, I'm happy that all I lost where two lures.. Unfortunitly, they where the ones I was most looking forward to using.

  7. And nick, what time did you get that ling at? I was hoping to see you get one.

He was there when I woke up in the morning. I forgot to put the little hole de-icer thingies in, so the holes froze over really fast. He hit sometime in the night, my fish alarm went off, but I was to comfy to get out of bed to see what was down there. By the time he hit, the lines where froze in place, so the bells wheren't moving.

He was a tasty little critter. Eat him last night for dinner!

  8. that clam is Lota Lota's cousin. They found it on the shore this morning! It went for a ride last night. :stretcher:

Thanks Blair for letting us use the hut. Radio said the winds where 90kmh. I believe it. Nice big drift around your hut now.

The fishing wasn't really fast, but ended the weekend with 3 perch, 3 herring, 2 walleye, 1 pike, and 1 LING.. :thumbsup_anim: It wasn't the giant that I wanted, but it made it all worth while!

Managed to squeak by Alexander by one fish to take the "most fish" price. Split the pot with Trouty, who got the biggest fish with a decent pike.

Here's your half of the price Trouty.. A pile of change adding up to $13, and a hand full of lures!

Tagged a walleye first thing in the morning while packing up..

It was awesome to meet everyone! Thanks again for the Jack last night Lota Lota. And thanks for the company Jason! The drive home was sketchy, but we made it :canadian:
