  1. I have been trying to contact Green Wilderness Lodge for the past 2 weeks with no response from them. Their website is still up and running. I have a deposit with them from last year and want to book a week for 2022. They do not return phone call or respond to emails, wondering if they are still in business? Any information is truly welcomed, if they are out of business I need to book elsewhere and the time is getting short. I would prefer to book in the Gagoma or Cochrane area.
  2. As we are under a stay at home order(State & county) here in Erie Pa and it seems to be working, 13 Coronavirus infections caused by travelers from a nearby state, no community spread so far. after awhile cabin fever begins to set in. I had to go out for some groceries at a drive through pick up and was surprised on how little traffic on the streets in town, citizens seem to be obeying the order. I sent a deposit to Green Wilderness lodge for the week of July 11-18, hope the border is open by then. The stimulus bill passed by congress and signed by the President gives every adult with a S.S.# 1200.00, children get 500.00. Thank you President Trump. Our group of seniors got our fishing trip paid for. Jerry
  3. Thank you Jay, The facebook information is just what I needed to know, Green's looks like it will be great for us. I phoned Linda the owner to book and told her some of us have a mobility issue, she offered the use of a golf cart for us to get around. Now this is fantastic service for senior citizens. Looking forward to the drive along Rt.69, I marvel at the huge rock cuts North of Parry Sound, the work and engineering required to make this road possible. Also we enjoy the different restaurants and people we meet along the way, just adds to the total trip enjoyment. My triple bypass surgery was done at the Cleveland Clinic, an amazing place, they do 3000 heart procedures every year. I came back home for rehab, several setbacks, 4 liters of fluid in 1 lung, got tapped was ok, then pneumonia and flu, full recovery, now getting back to normal. Jay thank you again, you always came through when I needed information of any kind for my Fishing trips. Jerry
  4. I haven't posted on this forum for a long time but check in frequently. I recently had bypass surgery with a difficult rehab but am on the mend. The last several years our group of older fellows. I'm 79 have been driving to White River and flying out. This year because of not wanting a long drive and health issues we decided to try an area much closer to Erie Pa. We wanted a lodge with meals and no more than a 10 hour drive, after much research we selected Green Wilderness lodge on Mattagami Lake. We usually fish in the morning, try to catch enough for a shore lunch and use the afternoon for pike fishing or napping. I realize the walleye fishing will probably not equal the more Western Lakes but that's Ok, because it's about the total trip for us. I haven't been able to get a recent information on Mattagami lake, most information I found on the net is 5 years or more old. We would appreciate any feedback on this Lake. Cheers, Jerry
  5. Slam the USA as gun toting idiots when you are trying to make a point. I listen to Toronto 680 Radio and there is 3 or 4 shootings every week The criminals are getting guns somewhere in Canada, maybe at the cannabis store with a 50.00 purchase. LOL
  6. Hold the shopVac hose tight around the outlets and suck em dry, also works on marine air conditioners. This methods also can be used to suck the pink antifreeze through live well outlets, bilge pumps etc.
  7. Verno, Regarding camp grounds in Erie Pa. I tried to contact you through OFC but email won't work, I have some information about camp grounds near water park. Please contact me at: [email protected] Sorry folks for this post not related. Seanik
  8. Thanks to all for posting information about traveling too and attending The Sportsman show! We had a quick border crossing both ways and an easy 3 1/2 hour trip to and from. The show was great and beyond my expectations, very friendly, both the crowd and exhibiters. I inquired at the Canada map sales booth about an obscure lake in Quebec, the lady rep. couldn't find it in their indexes, she left her booth and went to the outfitter who flew into this lake and got co-ordinates, came back found the lake on her computer. She said they have a show special, 12.00 shipped to my home, WOW talk about great service . Made contact with 2 outfitters on Kabinakagami Lake who fly in from White River, had long and informative conversations with both and will soon book a trip. Visited several lure makers and sellers, bought a few, looked at many boat and motor combinations and went to the food court for several snacks. I had a fantastic day at the Sport'sman show, totally enjoyed it and will be back next year. Seanik Erie Pa USA
  9. Mister G Distance to Toronto from Erie Pa = 190 miles Distance to Harrisburg Pa from Erie Pa = 300 miles The reason for attending The Sportsman's show in Toronto instead of the Outdoors show in Harrisburg Pa is distance and travel time plus I believe more outfitters are present at the Sportsman show, also the outfitters I am mainly interested in are all at the Sportsman's show. Seanik
  10. Old Ironmaker The main reason for going to the Sportsman show is planning and researching the next fishing adventure. We have booked a June 2017 fly in with Lac Natakim- Moselle outfitters in Quebec and they will be at the show. Also we are planning a fly in out of White River, Ontario to Lake Kabinakagami with meal plan. There will be 3 Outfitters from Kaby at the show all with the same services but with quite a difference in price, one offers a seniors discount in August. Personal contact with outfitters helps in the selection process plus the planning is half the enjoyment. Fifty years ago at the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto I discovered eating French Fries with vinegar was better than ketchup and never looked back, looking forward to refreshing that memory. 11. BillM The Commonwealth Of Pennsylvania has very strict privacy laws for it's citizens, the license plate data has much information on it including an address. The data exchange didn't happen between Pa. and Ont. but NAFTA did and the flood of Ontario plated trucks on our toll free highways increased greatly, good for Ont. and good for the US. On my 2 annual fishing trips to Canada I spend in excess of 4,000 dollars I hope that pays for some of the services I get. 407ETR has no toll booths , so how do I pay Bill, maybe a big placard taped to my tailgate with my billing address. Seriously though, I love my trips to Ontario even considered duel citizenship in my younger days, but the arrival of children and mortgage's got in the way. If you are ever down my way in Pa. dinners is on me. Seanik
  12. A few years back Pennsylvania was considering making Interstate 80 a toll road with no toll booths and camera's to record license plates for billing much like the 407 ETR. Pa and Ont. got into a Pi$$ing contest about exchanging license plate data and nothing was exchanged. The folks who operate the 407 ETR don't have Pa license data hence no address to send the billing. I believe most states such as NY, Ohio and Mich. have done the exchange and their residents get billed. I have used the 407 ETR without getting billed but it's a matter of time before our weak knead politicians violate our privacy. Seanik
  13. I will be going to the Toronto Sportsman's show for the first time on Thursday March 16th, arrival time about 11:00 Am from Fort Erie. It looks as if the 407 ETR would be our best route to the show, any insight or better directions is appreciated. Thank you, Seanik in Erie Pa
  14. I just bought a Lowrance Elite-5 hdi combo with base map and transducer from Gander Mountain in Erie Pa for 170.00. In addition Gander Mtn. also gave a 20.00 Gdr Mtn. cash certificate that can be used starting 11/27 for most items. This unit can also be bought on line through their website's black Friday deals. Field & Stream stores also has great deals on the Lowrance hook-7. I would have bought the hook-7 but I am making the Elite-5 into a portable unit. Seanik
  15. We will be converting US$ to Cdn$, Looking for an exchange place not far off our route with decent rates. Also would be great if we could buy non-resident fishing license close to exchange. Seanik
  16. We are traveling North to Sudbury and a train in to Lodge 88. The route will be QEW to 407 to 400. Other then the money exchange at the duty free is there a convenient exchange along our route, one that isn't to far out of the way ? Seanik
  17. Lodge 88 at Esnagi July 9-17, we will train in from Sudbury, first time on a Budd car. Seanik
  18. Thanks to all who replied, I really appreciate the help and information. One of the reasons I brought this up was I may start a new to me and simple fishing method. It has to do with my fishing partner who usually sits in the front of the boat. Dave exclusively uses a night crawler attached to a bare #2 snelled bait holder hook. He also makes a sliding 1/2 oz bullet sinker rig that the hook is attached to. Dave trolls and fishes over the side with this set up and almost always catches more Walleyes than anyone in the boat or other nearby fisherman. I will soon go to Gander Mtn. and Field and Stream with some line and check out rods. I have stored in the rafters of my garage a 1970's Berkley fiberglass parametric spinning rod with a parabolic bend, that with a rig like his and maybe a small spinner blade, which I won't tell him about, I'll smoke him at Esnagi Thanks again, Seanik
  19. At 75 I still get excited about my yearly fishing trips to Northern Ontario. This years July trip to Lodge 88 got me thinking I should up grade my fishing Rods. Being a kid in the 1950's I used my fathers steel TruTemper 5" casting rod and later a cheap fiberglass spinning rod with a Mitchell 300 reel. I never got past my present Ugly Stik pro Lite rods. I recently bought a St.Croix Triumph 7' Med. Lite spinning rod. The rod I remember most and still have is a 7' Berkley 2 piece parabolic fiberglass spinning rod from the 1970's, I would like to buy a modern sensitive graphite 2 piece rod with similar action, feel and that C bend. I have heard the some of the Quantum rods are parabolic but not 2 piece, any advice is appreciated. Seanik
  20. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania refuses to release license plate data to to the ETR, therefore the ETR has no address information on where to send bills. A few years ago Pennsylvania was looking at the possibility of setting up a similar deal as the ETR on interstate 80 with an exchange of information but it fell through when the legislature voted down releasing our information. Most of the states surrounding Pa released their license plate data to the Ontario government and the ETR but Pennsylvania says that private and will not release it at least for the present time. Yes, I use the ETR on my yearly fishing trips to Northern Ontario for the convenience but if the timing is right I also enjoy traveling the back roads North. I am amazed by the rugged rock formations and deep cuts necessary to make roads, the little rock piles people make( I forget their name), the great little restaurants along the way, I guess I enjoy the traveling almost as much as the fishing. 21. Hi James77, I booked the week of Aug.15, 2015 with Thunderstock Lodge, My son wanted to bear hunt and this will be my 11 year old grandsons first Ontario fishing trip. White Pine Lodge was also a top choice but they weren't able to accommodate a bear hunt that week. Between phone calls and emails to Thunderstock I am satisfied we will be well taken care of, I don't know much about Kenogaming lake and the fishing potential, any comments would be welcomed. Good luck on your search, Seanik (Jerry in Erie Pa)
  22. Hi Fang, The Fish USA store is open to the public, I don't know the time it's open. Call them to be sure FishUSA 1807 Pittsburgh Ave Erie Pa 1-800-922-1219 Also a new Field & Stream store has opened near Gander Mtn in Erie, it's worth a look. Seanik (Jerry)
  23. I once had a raccoon infestation under the tarp in a winter stored boat. An old timer told me they don't like the smell or taste of moth balls, 2 boxes of moth balls solved the problem. I always spread moth balls around in my boat for the winter, no mice or other critters and the smell airs out quickly. Seanik
  24. On a very cold Winter day this thread on Navionics has again got me thinking about buying the right micro sd card for my Lowrance Elite-4 which I made portable. The Canada Gold 2XG seems to be the best option for my upcoming July fishing trip to Lake Nagagami near Hornepayne, Ont. I don't know if this lake is on the gold card with any depth information or will it display only an outline of the shore. Seanik
  25. Thanks to Everyone for all the advice on getting to the 400, This is the 2nd yr for Flindt Landing Camp, Heathcote is a classic Western , Ont lake with many Islands and continuess rock faces. heathcote is 17 miles long and only 1/2 mile wide. The water is tannin stained which results in an almost black colored Walleye. A worm harness with a crawler trolled in 12-15' caught many 16-20" walleyes each AM. There are only 4 cabins on Heathcote Lake which is part of the Wabakimi provincial park and can only be reached by train , a fly in or paddle in by canoe or kayak. The Flindt Landing website spells out the history and whats offered at the camp and based on my expierence last year, what is stated is what you get and more. The train trip from Capreol (near Sudbury) to Flindt Landing takes about 18hrs and the cost for senior economy coach is about 254.00 round trip. We preferred a sleeper berth with meals because if the train is full it's a long tough trip for us old timers. We waited out via rail for their discount sale and booked a sleeper berth with meals for 472.00 round trip. The baggage allowance is very generous, each person is allowed 3 checked bags and 2 carry ons, the checked bags can weigh up to 50 lbs and be 4' long and they really don't adhere strickly to the weight limit. The meals are high quality, a great observation car and club car are available for your use. Via rail's website is very informative and trips can be booked on it. I will post a report on this years Flindt Landing trip upon returning. Seanik
