  1. i ended up picking up a HT Instashak 4-man popup. I noticed Le Barons had them on sale in their fall catalog. Le Baron Sale I went to Le barons in Markham today on lunch, they had none in stock...the guy said they wont be in for a month, and he already had a waiting list of people for when they do come in. so i added myself to the list I happened to find the same hut on Canadian Tire website, so i printed out Le barons ad, brought it to CT and had them price match it. CT Instashak $299 at CT got it for $152 +tax...also got back $15 CT money as part of their price match guarantee
  2. anybody do any cooking? (like bacon & eggs type of cooking)
  3. Post up your pics of your portable/pop-up huts (inside & out). id like to see what type youre using and how you set it up on the inside. Im about to purchase one, and trying to figure out which type will suit my needs best. Does anybody cook inside of their portable? Sleep inside? what type of heaters do you find work the best, chairs, cots, etc. Do you guys clear out the snow on your spot, or just set up on the snow? Thx guys....feel free to add anything that should be mentioned.
  4. this is much better then a regular tip up IMO...at least you get to fight the fish with a rod & reel
  5. i've already looked into the legality of this. it is definetly legal...confirmed by MNR
  6. I came across these 2 tip ups that use a rod and reel instead of the traditional way. does anybody use anything like this? how do you like it? has anybody seen these for sale locally? (GTA) http://www.automaticicefisherman.com/ http://www.slammertipup.com/
  7. does anybody use a heavy spinning setup for musky? i personally use a baitcasting setup, but i dont see why you can't buy a large spinning reel and use it on a MH or H rod. 8. thanks for the info Rich. i really dont like all these surprises im getting. i've stayed at many fishing lodges before, and was never charged extra fees, and had to jump through hoops like this place. they better hope the fishing is unbelievably amazing. or else this will be my first/last time going there. I hope they read this.
  9. Yes, i had a chat with Brenda at Bears Den and she told me that we would have to launch at Hartley Bay Marina. Im a bit confused about the fees though. Apparently we have to pay to park the Truck, Trailer, and then pay to dock the boat at Bears den. All daily fees for each. I found that very odd. Why do they have to launch the boat for you? Is the launch in bad shape or something?
  10. Fish Ontario at HWY 400 Service center North of Teston Road they have all size minnows, leeches and worms
  11. hey guys, i will be hitting up the lower french this weekend with some buddies. we'll be staying at bears den lodge. it will be my first time in the area, and at this lodge. I've previously have been to the upper french at Wolselseys bay. But from what i've seen on the map, these 2 spots are worlds apart. So i really dont know what to expect. Has anybody fished the area lately? how are the water levels? i've heard the lower french can be treacherous, and has a lot of rapids etc. these are the areas we would like to avoid. we will have GPS and Navionics mapping, but from what i hear there is no mapping of the french. Can anybody confirm this? We will be targeting pretty much anything. Me particularly Musky, walleye, bass (in that order). Any tips to put us on fish? Also, how are the bugs at this time of year. Ill be prepared for the worst, but just wondering. Thanks
  12. Google baitcaster vs spinning and you will get all the pros and cons of each
  13. Its already been mentioned. Baitcaster is more accurate casting. You have more control. Me personally its feels better using a baitcaster. Trolling/casting whatever. I can do more casting and retrieving w my baitcaster then my spinning reel in the same amount of time. Its a more natural motion
  14. Try orange & black bucktails or orange stalkers/super stalkers
  15. I've had luck pretty much anywhere on the lake. Orange seems to be the hot color lately.
  16. How are the bugs up there? I'm heading up in a couple weeks. Ill be prepared for them regardless
  17. I agree, don't cheap out on a baitcaster. Spinning you can and will be fine
  18. heading to the lower french at the end of this month. We will be staying at Bears Den Lodge. Does anyone know where i can find a map of the area? I havent been able to find anything online...
  19. awesome pics!! this calls for a recipes section of the forum
  20. i was also surprised by all the boats out there. i was also surprised by how many of them ripped by us at full speed only a few yards away from us. At one point we saw like 10 boats approaching in the horizon, and they flew by on both sides of us. We got tossed around pretty good by the wakes. Mostly jerks in big cruising boats. No surprise an accident happened.
  21. nobody has been or heard a thing or 2?
  22. Thinking about a weekend trip to the French. Has anybody been to this camp? Have any recommendations orsuggestions? Were thinking early Aug. We will mostly be targetting Walleye, Bass, Pike, and Musky. Any spots i should try or avoid? Thanks
