Thanks, Rick. I will check into that. Something else I noticed is that I seem to get multiple subscription notifications per topic in my email. Used to be I got only one per topic, which was less clutter in the "inbox".

I liked the old font a lot better. Easier on the eyes somehow. Everything else looks fine!

The attached picture shows Lake Nipissing as of today. The brown areas are sand flats, normally covered by about 2 to 3 feet of water during the summer. The current level by itself is not a cause for concern. The concern is that there is no snow left in the bush, like there normally is. With so little run-off still to come into the lake, and the fact that a steady outflow has to be maintained for the French River, we could be in for low water levels all summer.

I've been using Firefox for a few years and I've always felt it leaves IE in the dust. Some mention of page loading problems here... I haven't experienced that in a long time. The bookmarks in Firefox are way better than IE, so is the tabbed browsing. For a really great image search add-on, try "Cooliris". Also very useful - "CoolPreviews" and "Read it Later". I wouldn't do without those add-ons now.

Any more word on those Bush's beans at Canadian Walmarts? I wouldn't mind giving them a try again.

Unless you're a blessed with the olfactory numbness of a Ralph Cramden, it's in the tent afterwards when you really suffer the effects.

Ah, the old level-wind vs. spinning conundrum. At an evening camp-fire, after a few bottles of beer, they would both taste heavenly. Especially with some fire-roasted wienies chopped in, and buttered bread!

if you're a bean lover, this recipe is guaranteed to knock your socks off... Bean Bake 1 lb hamburger 1 1/2 c onion - diced 1 tbsp oil 1 can kidney beans - drained 1 can “bean medley” (mixed beans) - drained 1 can pork and beans (Clark’s preferred) ½ c hickory BBQ sauce (Walmart “Original Bold” is good) 2 tsp prepared mustard ¼ c brown sugar 1 tbsp vinegar ¼ tsp salt 1/8 tsp pepper In a large cooking pot, heat oil, then scramble fry hamburger and onion until onion is soft and hamburger is no longer pink. Drain. Add all beans. Mix mustard, brown sugar, bbq sauce, vinegar, salt and pepper in a measuring cup, then stir into bean mixture. Turn the entire mixture into a casserole with cover, or a small covered roast pan. Bake in a 350* oven for 1 hour. You can stretch this recipe a bit by adding 2 cans of pork and beans instead of 1. Still just as good.

For store-bought beans, Clark's Pork and Beans ARE the Cadillac of beans! You need look no further. If you can't get those (they can be hard to find at times around here) then Metro "Selection" Pork and Beans make an admirable substitute. I've had Bush's beans. They're just OK.

I live in the same community you do, Randy. It's good to know that there are such good people around. My condolences on the passing of your friend.

NF - Our girls party like champions! lol

Canadian girls drinking beer and smoking stogies... shocking!!! I've got two words for the IOC but the board software would filter the expression. The second word is "off". -
Yes, I thought that was classy too. And the American girls reacted with some class as well. They were utterly crushed by the defeat (you could see it in their faces and their body language), and yet when girl after girl on the American team got a good ovation, they started to react in appreciation and wave to the crowd.
-
Way to go, ladies! The Canadian goalie, Shannon Szabados, did to the Americans what Miller did to the Canadian men a few nights ago. Not that the rest of the team didn't play well --- they did. But the game could easily have been even more of a nail-biter without Szabados's performance in the net. She should get TWO gold medals.

Hand augers work great - it just the effort that's involved, especially when you're drilling multiple holes. Going thru 2ft+ of Nipissing ice in late Feb and early March is not fun, especially when you're practically down on your knees.

I'v got a Jiffy White Lightning, but it's only on its second season so I can't say much about it so far except that it works just fine. BTW, there's no such thing as a "quiet" ice auger, unless you hand-crank.

Hey, great stuff --- especially getting the youngster out. I'm trying to find a spot for smelts on Nipissing. My grand-daughter would love this! When I'm out, I keep a smelt line down just in case, but no success so far.
-
Interesting take, Idletyme. Gonna have to try those pin-heads for smelts and see what happens! Congrats on the 6.5 pounder, Thrasher. I've only seen those in May and June mostly.

Dinner and a movie never hurts the mental attitude.

Sure they are. They're even advertising on the major TV networks apologizing and saying that they promise to do better. When have you ever heard that as a result of a Big 3 recall.

Nice photo of some beautiful fish. Hard to beat the almost "tropical fish" look of perch. You mentioned crappie. I'm crappie-deprived. I've only ever caught ONE in my whole life. (They're not common up north). I'll have to head further south some time.
-
Love it when the perch keep you busy, especially when a lot of them are keeping size. Nice catch!
-
Nice fat whitefish, and that one perch looks like a dandy too. I know next to nothing about Simcoe. How thick does the ice get by this time of year? And are there lots of pressure cracks?

Thanks, Jacques. Once you get settled into a warm hut, you could stay there for days. I guess that`s why the overnight `bungalows`are getting more popular! It sure is an effortless way to fish, especially if you can drive right up to it with your truck! There`s nothing else quite like it.
