  1. Whoa guys whoa! I have done nothing here other than recognize Jackie after all these years and introduce her to a good friend. Jack ment a lot to me, he was an excellent wood carver and at one point he asked Sue to paint a couple of bears that he had carved. Sue did it with pleasure and when Jack saw them, he started to cry, Sue had worked so hard on them and they were truly a work of art from both perspectives. When jack was in the hospital he asked us to come for a visit and he gave us the bears. About two years ago we met a very nice couple, he turned out to be a wonderful handyman, could fix and do just about anything. Chris turned out to be a really good friend but he would never take anything for all the things he did to help us out. One day we were sitting her and he commented on how beautiful the bears were and how they made him think about the fact that we all have two bears in us fighting to survive, a good one and a bad one. When I asked him which one wins, he said "the one you feed the most". When Chris's birthday came Sue and I talked, there really wasn't anything that we could give Chris to express our gratitude for all his help so we decided that since he loved those bears so much we would pass them along. As it turns out now, Chris is the friend that lives only a few doors from Jackie and is going to see to it that her repairs are taken care of. So you see, this truly is a story of what goes round, comes round. The bears that Jack so kindly shared with us are now back only a few doors from his beloved Jackie and making sure she is looked after. Me, I'm just happy that Jackie and the bears are in good hands and that if Jack is looking down on us he can do it with a smile!
  2. Got invited to a pig roast today, got a chance to meet a lot of new people and had a wonderful time. There was a lady there and I kept looking at her thinking "I know her from somewhere". Suddenly it came to me it was Jackie (Nanook's) wife. Nanook (Jack) passed away in 2010 and we kind of lost touch with Jackie but we never forgot her or Jack. To make a long story short, it was hugs and kisses all round and I found out that she had a bunch of minor repairs that needed to be done at her place (she didn't tell me but a mutual friend did). A very close friend of mine lives only a few doors away and after a bit of a chat with him suffice to say that those repairs will be done for her at no charge, For any of you that ever met Nanook, you will know that he would have done the same for any other member of this board. What goes around, comes around! RIP Jack, we will see to it that Jackie is taken care of.
  3. Glad to hear that you like it, sounds like you got the ventury adjusted properly now. You will be amazed at how good that bacon will taste!
  4. I want the recipe for that salmon. I use to buy salmon jerky when I went to BC, haven't tried to make it yet but that looks close!
  5. One of the things I have specified is that the dealership must inspect and provide a detailed list of all systems and components inspected and a 90 day warranty. It would also have to have a safety and Etest. I am hoping that would cover me!
  6. This is through a dealer so I would insist on a full inspection with a detailed report and some sort of warranty. I did crunch some numbers and a unit that old with average milage on it (a lot lower than a car) should be selling in around $75,000.00 The asking for this is quite a bit higher but if it is in fact in mint condition like they are telling me then it might be worth the extra. Those Cummings engines and Alliston transmissions are bullet proof they don't even start to get broken in until about 100,000 miles (or so I am told by our mechanic at work). Boy I really appreciate all the comments and ideas, so much to think about.
  7. Good point about FL. Must be a ton of used ones! I have a line on a 2008 Monaco Lapalma diesel 34 PPD that only has 1734 miles on it. It's a little older than I was thinking but would come fully checked over and certified by a very reputable dealer. I can get it for under $100,000.00 and it has a lot of upgrades. Sold new for about $160. Going to try to go and see it this weekend.
  8. We are cottage type people, don't have marble floors or leather furnature at home now so it wouldn't be a big priority for a motor home. Many of the ones I have looked at so far have 3+ TV sets even ones outside, there is two of usand when we do watch TV it is usually together. A lot of these seem to have "LUXURY" in mind and quality is secondary. I'm looking for something functional, comfortable, reliable, and affordable. Short list, hard to find!
  9. That sounds like it would be a really good way to go! Brings up a whole lot of other questions to ask though like importing them into Canada, warranty, I think we have pretty much decided that we would want to start off with a gently used one so that we don't end up loosing 30% of our investment if we find out 6 months down the road it isn't quite what we thought it was. Do they also feature used ones at the show?
  10. Again, many great questions to add to the list, thanks! If this does come to pass, it will be a big investment for us, you can be sure my wife will be involved!
  11. Thanks John, good points and now added to the list!
  12. I stand corrected LOL. Spent a few hours over there with them today, really nice people. Looking more and more that the diesel pusher about 36' is what we would want. I think I'd like to try to find one about 4-5 years old which would reduce the cost significantly and there seems to be a few available with really low milage but reasonable pricing. You wouldn't believe some of these things, washers dryers, TVs all over the place..... built in generators so the whole thing is self sufficient. Still lots of learning to do though LOL.
  13. No problem at all Lew, I'd be happy to have a look at it for you! Your way will work fine, my way is just a little safer
  14. So true yet so many people just don't get it.
  15. Actually Lew, pull the negitive cable off the battery, you ALWAYS disconnect the negitive cable first and re hook it last (except in a positive ground system). Reason is that if you did short ground to ground while disconnecting/reconnecting the negitive cable it won't matter, if you were to short the positive cable to ground while the negitive cable is still connected ...... well you'll have a dead short to ground and it won't be nice. A switch in the negitive circuit probably won't do you any good, too much current when starting the tractor, it would take one heck of a switch to handle that load, could be done but not practicle. Check to see if the tractor is charging the battery; just put a volt meter set to DCV across the terminals of the battery and measure the voltage. Then start the tractor, the voltage should read something at or above 13V while the tractor is running, if it doesn't then you probably have a problem with your charging curcit. Try those things first and if you are still having trouble let me know, I could try to drop over one day this week and have a look at it for you.
  16. Beans my friend, I will never be further than a phone call away if you need me and you know it!
  17. Thanks, will look at them if we decide to go with the 5th wheel. I have been hearing a lot of good things about Hitch World, have any of you delt with them?
  18. God must need a special angel by his side. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
  19. That is some good advice! First I think I have to decide which way I want to go, 5th wheel or motor home, the 5th wheels we have looked at were beautiful but I am still interested in further exploring the motor homes. I am going to take a day and go over to Hitch World and spend a day looking and asking questions. Once we have that decision made then I'll narrow it down to makes, then features and prices then talking to current owners. It's a lot of money to invest but when you stop and consider that my 2013 Rogue cost about $30,000.00..... Well, lots to consider.
  20. With an attitude like that you should be running for counsil or something, I know I'd be voting for you!!!
  21. Very nice but not big enough if you are going to spend a LOT of time in it!
  22. They let drug dealers and "ladies of the night" do business all the time and don't collect taxes on those!
  23. Good point! Thanks!
