  1. So you are telling me that having some man talking to your 10 or 12 year old daughter about sex, masterbation, anal, oral.... sex is ok with you? You do have a right to your sexual choices and beliefs in this country, in many others you would be stoned or whatever. In Canada we tend to be tolerant but I believe it is a parents place to teach our children about these things and that no one else has the right to impose their views or standards on our families values. I would love to see your reaction if some man came up to your 12 year old daughter or son on the street and decided to teach her/him all about sex! Well, it isn't my place to say, you might be alright with that! I sure wouldn't! You know what though; good for you, at least you didn't vote Liberal!
  2. Well, that explains it LOL.
  3. Two years ago a very wonderful young man entered my life, his name was John and he was only 23 years old. John had a rough start in life, parents that tried but were always busy doing their own thing. You have all seen or heard it before, it is way too common. John found company with some wrong people and ended up into drugs, not a hard mistake to make. When I met him he was fresh out of rehab, his step father didn't want anything to do with him, his father had given up on him, his mother was doing her best but she had issues of her own to deal with and wasn't doing a great job of it. John and I quickly became friends, he would come and hang out with me in my shop and seemed to love to learn and boy was that kid smart. We spent many hours working on lawn mowers, trimmers, chain saws. There wasn't a day we spent together that he didn't make me so proud of him. We would spend hours just hanging out and talking about anything and everything, school, life, girls..... I even got him interested in fishing, set him up with a rod and some tackle and we'd go down to the dock and tease each other about the fish we were going to catch (or lost)and we'd drink a beer or two and just be together. He was a wonderful human being! I hadn't seen John for about a week when I got the call that he had had a slip and od! He didn't make it. I was so angry at first, how could he do that to me, to us, and why would he? Then his step father came to see me and told me that "well, John's demons got the better of him but the good thing was it was only going to cost them $450.00 for the funeral"! Then I started to understand, if that is the kind of life you have been brought up into and those are the kind of attitudes you have pushed at you every day, how can you ever value life? His step father still walks this earth today but it was a close call, I came very close to doing something that would have ruined not only my life but my families lives too. You may not have sympathy, you may not even have empathy, but until you have fought the fight, walked the walk, and lived the life, no man has the right to judge anyone else. RIP John you will forever be in my heart! For the rest of you; never look down on anyone unless you are offering them a hand up!
  4. Up here Sturgeon has just a ripple, winds are calm, a slight whisp of cloud in the sky but that is it! it's now 1:45 pm. Course we pay more taxes in the Kawarthas!
  5. Some, no actually most of these presentations are works of art! I am totally amazed by some of the plating here! Here is a little tip for you more basic cooks; if you are making a beef stew, throw in 1/8 tsp of nutmeg for every lb of beef. A camp chef tought me that one because I taught him to throw in a good slice of orange peel (about an inch wide and two or three inches long) for every lb of beef. (NEVER tried them together though). But if you want that stew to make everyone go "WOW". either of these make a huge differance. It's the little things that count (at least that's what I keep telling my wife
  6. It sure is a beautiful sight to see and we have the luxery of being right in an area where we have a couple of them that seem to like to feed. It isn't unusual for us to see 15 or 20+ dives a day although to be honest with you, most of them come up with pan fish. Oh, and you and Joey (as long as Paul approves) would be more than welcome to come and camp out on our deck anytime and take pictures until you run out of memory cards.
  7. I would march in that parade.... Heck I'd even lead it and be PROUD to do it. We could call it the PROUD parade. I wonder if Wynne would support it, I wonder if Tory and his family would march with us?
  8. I have many friends that are "gay", I have a 14 year old great grandaughter that has decided that she is lisbian and I love her to pieces. I don't go around saying "I am hetrosexual", they don't go around saying "I am Gay". Each to their own but no one has the right to push their orientation on anyone else! Let me catch you trying to tell some 12 or 14 year old girl all about masterbation and sex and I will personally show you what I think about your attitude!!!!! You can do and be whatever you want to do and be but not when it comes to children!
  9. I am paying JUST under $4000.00 a year here in taxes. No street lights, but I do get garbage pickup once a week and the roads plowed in the winter (usually right after I cleared the driveway LOL). I pay $300.00 a year to maintain my water supply (I do have a state of the art system though) get my septic system pumped about every two years ($185.00) and lord help me if the well craps out! I love living on the lake but when we bought this place our taxes were $1600.00 a year. Our services were actually better than what we have today, but our taxes have more than doubled. Mind you, so have our property values but what does that really have to do with it? Just because I have worked hard to make my property better than the one next door my taxes go up and their's didn't?????
  10. Oh I see lots of them out here taking fish that I often wonder how they can even swollow them! I'm sure plenty of them are muskie.
  11. Driving through Scarborough the other day I saw all these beautiful trees just waiting to be planted along the side of the road, there were a couple of hundred of them, beautiful, straight, tall. All were right under the hydro lines and in fact, most of them were already within a foot or two of the line. How much money has hydro just spent cutting treas away from hydro lines in Ontairo? Who is paying Hydro to do it? What idiot just approved the planting of all of these trees and how come they get to keep their job? Driving up Hwy. 12; little village, speed sign 50 km/ph.... fifty yards further and clearly in sight 70 km/ph begins! Fifty yards past that another sign and clearly within sight, 80 km/ph begins. I can only wonder how much each of these signs cost, what it costs to install and how much do we spend maintaining them. Our tax dollars hard at work???????? Out in a rural area, no sidewalks, nothing much to walk to anyway there is a set of traffic lights with one of those nice walk/dont walk count down traffic lights. What idiot in there right mind got away with approving that? These people shouldn't have a job where they have the power to make decisions to spend our money! Who is their boss and why do they even have a job if they can't supervise their employees and make them accountable? It is time for some accountability. Our seniors can go hungry, without heat, be told we have to start paying for our own medications because our government is running out of money but we can donate billions to other countries? Billions get pissed up against the wall, senitors get charged, but no one is really ever held acountabile and now our members of parliment don't want to have to account for their expense claims? It's our money that they are spending for their lavish trips and if they do get caught they don't even get a slap on the wrist. Lets you and I try defrauding people and see what happens. Lastly our wonderful Premier gets up on stage at the Gay Pride Paride and states " I am Lesbien and the Permier of Ontario, how wonderful is that?" I can only imagine what the out cry would be if I got up in front of thousands of people and said "I am hetrosexual and I am a truck driver". OMG I would be labeled sexist so fast!!!!! I really don't care if she is lesbien but I do care that it seems to be her priority and now she is dictating that our children and grand children should be taught that this is a normal and acceptable thing? By who's standards? Teaching little kids about masterbation, same sex relationships????? If I as an adult was to talk to a 12 or 14 year old girl about anything to do with sex I would be in jail so fast and I would be labeled a sexual devient! Strangly our wonderful Premier thinks it's ok for our teachers to do it? Not in my books, but how does she get away with it? Sorry for the rant folks but I do find it frustrating!
  12. Now I don't fish muskie although in the 14 years I have been here I have caught plenty however, the only one I have ever kept was one that got the hooks into the gills and was clearly going to die. Right or wrong, I will not waste food, just my up bringing. Today however I witnessed first hand a 14" muskie being taken and harvested for food. At first I was really angry and shouted out some obsenities but then I thought "well, might be that there is family to feed. I spent a bit of time thinking about the times in my life where things were tough; living on strike pay of $11.00 a week where every meal was KD and whatever I could get to go with it in season or not. I thought about not being able to understanding the rules or the laws! Then I went in the house, got myself a cold beer and wondered how that osprey could possibly have carried that muskie right up and over my head without the least feeling of guilt and I thought to myself "life is good"!
  13. Way too many questions to be asked to try to provide answers on here. Wells, septic systems, power, taxes...... the list is huge! One thing to consider though would be to get a place somewhere near a small town. We live about 10 minutes drive to Lindsay which offers my wife all the medical, shopping, social requirements to keep her happy and I can catch fish off my dock and shoot turkeys from my garage if I want. A simple walk across the road and there is plenty of hunting available.
  14. Only my opinion my friend and I sure don't know everything. I'm sure you have a handle on it!
  15. It was only 8 am LOL! Perhaps just a little left over from last night
  16. T.J. you should be so proud to have been the founder! Mods you must be so proud to have been a key to the success! I think it is wonderful that we have a community that has such a diverse range of knowledge and is willing to share it? No matter what the question or who asks it there is always a wealth of replies and information. OK, sometimes not quite what we wanted or expected LOL. It never ceases to amaze me that the level of knowledge, experience, humor, (and good intentions) are quick to come into play when responding to any quiry and it makes me proud to be a part of something so special. OFC should be a way of life for everyone! IMHO!
  17. Sounds like the perfect dog! She is going to love attention and will do everything in her power to please you so she gets it!Loads of praise and affection every time she does what you ask of her. If you have a kennel for her, leave the door open and don't let anyone bother her if/when she goes in it. That will become her safe place.
  18. And it would be the last time if she was mine, I'd have backed her into a corner and taken it away from her! Don't ever let your dog become the alpha, she now thinks she can hold ground with you. Not good!
  19. Well, I've checked out all the leads and a few that weren't mentioned here and it works out that if you want FRESH live lobster delivered to your door here in Ontario you are going to be paying about $20.00 ea for 1 to 1 1/2 lb lobster (estimated on qty of 10)including freight. Tank lobster from Loblaws are going to run you about $10.99/lb unless you can find them on special and that can be hit and miss and the quality isn't going to be anywhere near that good. Now, I was just thinking that if a few of us wanted to get together and place an order...... the freight cost would come down on a per lobster basis as the quantity goes up...... Anyone in the Kawartha's area that might be interested? Here is how it would work: total number of lobster ordered/the total cost= your cost per lobster but you have to pick them up here on the day of delivery (would have to be a Friday afternoon/evening because Saturday freight would be extra. BTW, on an order of 50 cost would average $16.00 ea for an average lobster of 1.25 lbs. If you are interested let me know and I'll see if we can put it together.
  20. And how does he get them to you and what would he charge?
  21. This is the way it should have played out! Fixed properly! Glad to hear it.
  22. Thanks for all the replies! I've tried the "tank" lobster and it's like comparing round steak to rib eye. Ok but if I am going to spend the money I'd rather spend a little extra and really enjoy it! Two years ago when Sue and I did our East coast trip we really got to taste the differance between fresh & FRESH! I'd rather pay twice the price and have the good stuff because I only do it once a year!
  23. Thanks Roy! Those are canners (typically 1/2 to 3/4 lb). I am looking for something a little bigger, 1 1/2 to 2 lbs.. The larger sizes are usually more expensive but worth it!
  24. You for got accountability!
