  1. He may have taken them down but it's too late.

They will be on backup in youtubes' backup set and then archived forever!!!!!! HAHAHA

You are going down LOSER!!!!!!!!:devil::devil:

More than one person has reported you for illegally taking fish.

    Get out your Wallet. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

  2. that's brutal man, I hope the MNR got news of that for sure and they just incriminated themselves on film as evidence <_<

    :whistling::whistling::whistling:B)

Last year there were a bunch of guys who went to Alaska on vacation and kept illegal fish and posted it online.

They were charged and convicted. :)

  3. I will second Drifter's vote for Nipigon. I was on a work trip up there two years ago and was able to finish ONLY after 4-5pm.

In the lower nipigon near the highway we caught silver steelies that were shaped like footballs. A short drive to frazer lake (a drive to spot) and we could catch our limit of walleye in no time. we've had 4 people fishing in a 14 foot boat jigging one and and we still caught limits. the stretch of salmonid streams in the area are prettier than any other i've worked on in the great lakes...

oh yeah, did i mention the nipigon river! fishing that river was incredible. our around average brookie was over 3 lbs with one coming in at 6. my partner also caught a few nice big whities on his flyrod and fought about a 10 lb laker to the side of our small boat.

    it is seriously a paradise.

Don't forget the giant Lakers and Brookies in Lake Nipigon.

  4. I wouldn't say that...

A moment of not paying attention can have very bad effects.

You can be paying attention and still have an accident.

    That's why they're called accidents.

Three years ago my friend was riding (not fast and not carelessly) and due to flat light accidentally drove his sled off a 30 foot cliff!!! He ended up with a broken hip and ribs as well as other injuries, but could have just as easily died in the accident. Even riding 20 mph I have had issues with flat light and not being able to see dip and bumps that could easily cause a person to get kicked off the trail.

  5. You'll catch more fish faster with a spinning rod and reel, and at a fraction of the cost! :Gonefishing::thumbsup_anim:

Not always. Ask Solopaddler about silver fishing in Alaska. :whistling:

I can also catch more early season pike on a fly that spoon, spinner etc.

A well rounded angler will be open to all forms of angling as there is no one best method to catch fish all of the time.

  6. Nope... they, the dealers, all charge $89.95/hr or so !..and I do well to get $55 to build airplanes and I can't have my customers just pull over to the curb when stuff falls off !!!

Rates are cheap down south compared to up here.

The hourly rate at Canadian Tire here in Yellowknife is $120/HR :w00t:

    The dealers are no better.

I do my own work and have for many years.

Even doing oil changes myself costs me more than going to a Rapidlube in Southern Ontario, but I only use top quality filters and full symthetic oils as well. An oil change (done by me) on my Honda Pilot is about $60. I wouild hate to see what one of the repair shops in town would charge,

It would probably be another $60 in labour!!!!! :w00t:

  7. For line, if you a using a centerpin run mono. If using a spinning reel you can run either.

I like braid especially when bottom bouncing as it transmits what's going on under the surface so much better.

When bouncing I run 3 feet of flourocarbon leader for a stealthier presentation.

On my centerpins I run either 8# Ande or 12# Raven with 4 to 10 pound leaders (flouro or Maxima Ultragreen).

For braid it's 15 or 20 pound Power Pro with 6 to 12 pound leaders.

  8. Thank You all very much, this thread did what I hoped it would. There was a lot of good lets call it debate on both 2 vs 4 stroke. A couple of comments brought it home for me though, one being said that a 20hp 4 st would not plane the boat with 3 guys in it, and with the previous old 25hp 2 st it would have. Another was a suggestion I'd be shopping for a hydro fin if I bought the 4 st. I have seen a lot of motors with these on them, I'm not sure if they work and I don't want to find out. I'm sure the 2 st will burn more fuel than the 4 but I'm prepared to spend extra on fuel for some extra performance. At a 100 to 1 mix running on synthetic I don't think smoke from the motor will be a big concern. I plan on running a bow mount to troll with which I will buy with the extra money I saved so that addresses trolling. I will miss the electric start and the fact the 4 st would be quieter but I'm already half deaf in my right ear so now with my left ear towards the motor maybe things will even out. That is about it so I put a deposit down on the 2 stroke 25 hp and will pick it up in March and never look back! Well hopefully never look back.

Sounds great, good luck with it.

I'm sure you will be happy with it. :D

FYI, if you re-read that post, he actually said that it took a little longer to get on plane with two people (big person) and the smaller 4 stroke but neither engine would get up on plane with three people on board.

the only thing i've noticed is if i get a big 2nd guy in the boat it takes a while to plane out (it wont plane with 3 of us) whereas with the 25, i'd get it up on a plane fairly quickly (still wouldnt plane with 3 of us)..

  9. Excellent comment. You've basically compared both the subject motors in real life. Your results would suggest exactly what Sinker and I have been arguing.

Getting on plane IS hole shot. Go with the 20 hp now and in two months you will be asking the age old queston "Do hydrofins really work?".

Yes and he also noticed a big difference in fuel consumption which is what the rest of us were saying.

So to the original question A/ if you're not a speed freak and want to save on fuel and not have to smell 2 stroke oil go with the four stroke.

B/ if performance is your goal and you don't mind spending more on fuel and oil go with the two stroke.

  10. I'm highly doubting that........got anything to prove it? Just curious.......

    S.

    Just 15 years guiding experiance.

We ran 30 horse 2 strokes at the lodge for years and when we switched to 4 strokes our fuel consumption dropped a between 40 and 50 percent.

This is not based on a single event or even season but over 15 seasons of running one or the other for two to three months a year.

Before we made the switch we were carrying 3 or 4 fuel tanks when we were making our longest runs but after the switch were able to cut back and carry only 2 and still have 1/2 a tank left after our longest day runs. With the 2 strokeswe would burn 1 to 1 1/2 tanks more.

  11. "When you are required to operate in a "4-Stroke Only" body of water"

Do these "4-Stroke Only" bodies of water actually exist? Is there a single lake in Ontario that bans 2 strokes but allows 4 strokes? What about other provinces or even the states?

Don't try taking a 2stroke on Alaska's Kenai River in July or August you won't like the fine you receive.
