  1. One more note on IO's if the bellows gets torn/worn out your boat can fill with water very quickly.

I have seen inboards blow exhaust hoses and they will fill the boat up pretty quick too.

Both IO's and Inboards are more difficult to work on and take more maintenance.

Outboards are more $$$$ to replace but the 4 strokes get decent mileage.

Personally I would go with an outboard powered boat.

  2. There are lots of cabins and off grid homes running green power systems. Most of the cabins I have seen run a couple of deep cyc;e batteries that feed an inverter. The batteries are recharged using solar power for the most part. Off grid homes that are lived in year round run systems similar but have bigger inverters, batteries and solar panels. They may also add a wind turbine. They will also have a large gennerator when they need to run high demand appliences. Most off grid homes and cabins will have propane powered appliances such as stoves and fridges.

I have been squirrling away supplies to build my own cabin. I managed to get great deals on a small propane/12 volt fridge and a 1750 watt inverter. I got the fridge from a co-worker for $50 and got the inverter at a garage sale for $100. Now all I need is a cabin to put it in. :whistling:

  3. Yo Drifter Davey,

nice boat...I have the 17 version with a 115 on the back.....I used to pull it with a 2004 Toyota 4Runner Sport with a 4 liter 6 cyl, I had it three months and a guy offered me $3000 more than I paid for taxes inc.......sold the 4runner and picked up a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Rocky Mountain with a 4.7 8cly HO in it.....small 8 with 265 horse and 330lb torque........and I put $13,000 in the bank after I cashed the check from the 4runner and bought the Jeep......gas is not an issue, I have an Esso card from work and Ontario is my territory......so is every lake!!!.

both cars towed the boat NO problem.....aluminum is light.

I.ve done a little customizing on mine. Trailer and boat were painted to match my old bronco. Carpet was changed to blue as well. And last spring I did a total rebuild of the helm.

I want to replace the LMS 350 with one of the new Lowrance HDS-10 units. :clapping:

I also want to repower with a 4 stroke. Just need to find the $$$$$$$$$$

  4. I know not all people are like this, but out of the 50 or so that we've had here, only 3 or 4 have given 2 weeks notice

I have always given notice when leaving a job. It's only right and it was how I was raised.

It's not right to leave an employer short, unless that employer is a total :asshat: then it's OK ;)

  5. Thats what 3 months probation is for.

3 Months? When I started my new job 2 years ago I was put on probation for a year!!!!!

I think that is because it is a management position with the government. Non- Management positions have a 6 month probationary period.

But you are correct that the probationary period gives the employer an out if the new hire doesn't work out.

  6. Well took it into Mr. Transmission this morning and they're taking it apart as I type.. It was slipping in/out of 3rd gear.. They said it the it would be around the minimum of $1000.00 and up to $2200.00 for a complete transmission...

This truck has been a total nightmare from the day of purchase.. ( my wife kept saying not to buy it ) Anything and Everything has gone wrong with this.. This tranny problem will boost my repair bills since 2004 to well over $12,000.00..

And they want me to buy another GM product... Am I nuts !!!!!!!!!!

Any body wanna buy a truck ???

    Tiz

    I bought a GM once.......................................That was enough. :wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:

  7. As long as it's a manufacturer warranty, and not 3rd party then yes.

    3rd party warranties are garbage.

$1000 for a window switch? Are you driving a Maserati? :)

    For the two problems.

The sensor is about $100 +- plus labour and the switch is like $300 + plus labour.

Sensor labour 1 hour and switch labour 1.5 hours.

The local labour rate up here would blow your mind. At Canadian Tire the hourly rate is $120 with the dealers being a few $$$$ more!!!!! :w00t:

So that bill would work out to about $700 as I'm just guessing on the parts cost. I'm pretty sure it would be more.

  8. I bought a used Honda Pilot from a dealer last spring and did purchase the extended warranty it was $1500 bumper to bumper for four more years. That works out to $375 per year, $31.25 per month or $1.03 per day!!!!!! Less than a cup of coffee. When you are buying a used car you really don't know how the last owner took care of it. A buck a day is pretty cheap insurance. I have a couple of minor issues that need to be taken care of 1/ faulty air bag sensor 2/ faulty srivers side window switch. The repairs for these two little items would likely be between $500 and $1000!!! If something more serious were to break like a transmission, transfercase or differential we're talking thousands. I have heard of people paying up to $5000 for a tranny!!!!

If you are buying through a dealership I would buy the warranty through them.

  9. Never!! You don't need it if you hold your rod properly.

I've run nothing but 15 and 16 foot rods since the 80's.

I can fish 12 hours a day with no arm problems.

I hold my rod so that the butt cap either rests on my elbow or against my body and cradle my pin in my palm.

This way you don't get torque on your elbow (this is what causes the issue with most people).

Unless you are using a heavy spey conversion you will never even notice any tip weight holding it this way.
