  1. Because your pond drains into a stream you will need to contact the MNR about stocking your pond.

When I lived in Grand Valley we had a pond that did not drain into a river, stream etc and could go ahead and stock away.

Depending on the outflow size, distance from stream etc they may say yes or no or you may have to make some changes to go ahead.

They may even limit the type of fish you can stock.

Gice the MNR a call and they will be able to help you out.

  2. I actually don't mind the looks of the Flex. I haven't seen it up close though.

Could be good from a far but far from good. ;)

Looks like it can tow 4500# with the towing package.

I would hope you got the all wheel drive option as FWD is not the greatest on slippery launch ramps.

My Honda Pilot has the same towing capacity and it tows my 18 foot Fisher w/90hp outboard fine.

  3. Being old school when I was back in TO I was running Eagle Claw style 42's in sizes 10, 12 and 14.

When I started fishing in bigger flows out west I changed to Gami Octopus hooks in sizes 6 and 8 as I was continually straightening hooks with the old 42's even after stepping up to size 6's. I havent straightened a hook since. B)

Out east you can get away with smaller hooks in the smaller tribs. Use something like a 14 for running single eggs.

  4. I presume you meant to say if you KEEP your 2...

... but what's the difference if you catch and release 20 all day... or keep the first 2 and release the next 18. Same mortality rate in either case..

The difference would be if you already have two on the stringer you have no wiggle room incase you catch a bleeder. So yes you could release your dead bleeder but if you only had one fish on your stringer you could add that bleeder to your stringer and not waste a fish or be unspotsman like by releasing a fish that is for sure going to die.

  5. I don't care what you say, the most hilarious episode was the whoer (had to mis spell to get past the censors) off between Mr. Slave and Paris Hilton!!!!

That's comic gold right there!!!!!

  6. I have an 18 foot side console with Merc 90 horse 2 stroke and trolled Lake Ontario & Lake Huron for trout and salmon, Lake Erie for Walleyes, Pigeon for muskies. Well you get the idea. It does depend alot on boat size and weight as well as hull design.

What you want to troll for and with what boat/motor setup?

  7. Solopaddler broke the tip on his Raven and couriered the rod directly to Anglers International and then AI couriered it to Tom at AngSpec to re-wrap the tip section. Mikes cost was quite high as he wanted it ASAP.

  8. I guess any recommendations would depend on the time of the year you wanted to go. I don't think you'd want to be in Florida in July or August or Whitehorse in November thru February.

give us the timeline you are looking at I'm sure we can come up with somekind of romantic fishing resorts

Why, real good ice fishing them. ;)

  9. It's a good reason to have more than one rod in your stable. B)

Personally I have accumulated one 16 footer, three 15's, one 14 and one 11 1/2.

If I break one I just choose another while the broken one is being fixed.

  10. As I am sure you know we got kicked off our old shared server. This was at first quite puzzling to us....we didn't seem to be doing anything unusual, but the site stats tell all.

By the end of today we will have had quarterly stats as listed...

    • Total page views.....2,690,000 ...Second best all time..best 1st quarter ever
    • Unique visitors...........640,000 ...New record for most visitors..by quite a decent margin
    • Hits.....................45,000,000 ...New record
    • Database queries...40,000,000 ...New record by a country mile..which is why we got kicked

So ends the geek stats report. Our new server is running just peachy and I still can't even understand half the new stuff I get to play with. We will be looking at things like increasing PM inbox max, image sizes and other things we can increase as soon as I can find out what our total disc and database capacities are.

As a side note to advertisers....you will not find a website on earth charging as little as we do for our banner ads with comparable traffic. Support your local anglers and buy a banner....

Members and visitors, please support our sponsors and turn off ad blocking on our site. Not much to ask for to keep this place going. (I sound like one of the public television ads..lol)

And for a monthly donation of just $79 we will throw in this plush stuffed fishey toy!!! Your children are sure to love it!!!! LOL

  11. I have a Lowrance LMS 520c unit. Great unit but with that being said they are discontinued and getting warranty service on them may be now only 3-4 years. It would be wise to get a HDS unit as it is a much better unit from everyone I have talked to that now has one with warranty service/part available for some time to come.

If you do decide to get a LMS unit the 520 gets much better GPS reception because of the external antenna ESPECIALLY if your will be doing a flush mount in the dash because the internal antenna is built in the top back part of the unit and MANY guys have reported of continuously losing GPS reception because either the unit it built in OR the unit is tipped upward to read while fishing up front using the trolling motor. If you have a choice you might want to steer clear of LMS internal antennas.

    Bob

There is no problem getting older units serviced.

They do it right in Mississauga. Warranty or not they will just swap units.

If I have a problem with my old LMS 350 I can return it to Lowrance and they will swap it for a replacement for a set fee.

The fact that they are local should factor in to your purchase. With a Lowrance you can walk in with a broken unit and out with a working one. If you need to send it in because you are not in the area turn around time will be reduced. Much better than being with out it for weeks. Especially up here where open water is measured in weeks. ;)
