I have been out a time or two Bill.

I dropped a line for two or three hours today and managed one small pan sized laker.

The wind was blowin at about 40km's so it was alittle cool.

You have to ice fish if you live up here. The lakes are solid more than they are liquid.

I shop before I leave, you have to when you live at the end of the road.

Even when I'm heading south on vacation I need to load up before I head out. If I'm heading to Alaska my next good place to shop is a long two day drive in Whitehorse.

You want a great experience go out of Port Credit with my buddy Wayne aboard Fishy Buisness Charters (He's on the river)

What ever you want he can arrange for you. His boat is comfortable for 6-8 anglers. Fishy Business

If you have a larger crowd talk to another buddy of mine Wayne Andrews of Andrews Charters. He is also located on the river in Port Credit and has two boats up to 52' in length that can handle 14 to 16 per boat. Andrews Charters

Over the years I have worked on both of their baots and they will both catch you some fish and show you a great time.

Late July and August are the best times for fishing out of Port Credit.

I bought a new Marcum LX-5 (their top model) at the end of the season this year for $299 US

The sale was touted as the lowest price you will ever see them for, so I just had to buy it.

I think that any of these new ice machines are as good as each other, you just need to pick one you like with the options you need and plunk down your cash. I wanted the marcum because it's zoom feature is adjustable anywhere in the water coloumn where as the vex is a fixed bottom zoom. Other than that I would say they are equal (the top models atleast). I will say that they are a lot more sensitive than the older flashers I have been using plus the three colour display helps to pick out fish and your lure.

I plan to get one as I can be over 100 miles from civilization on my longer excusions.

I think it would be more usefull in areas where there is no other communication.

As said the portables don't have the range of perm. mount units because of the lower power and shorter antenna.

When I was fishing out of Port Credit my first radio was a portable 1/6 watt unit. It worked fine but I wanted better range so I bought a fixed unit.

Last spring I upgraded it to an ICOM IC-M304 and it is a great unit. Very small chassis and will connect to GPS.

And another plus is it's a really good looking radio.

If your finder is in the portable pack you can use the battery pack that it comes with.

Just gets a little costly replacing batteries. I run my portable on a 7ah sealed lead acid rechargable battery.

It even fits inside my portable case for my Garmin fishfinder. I had to do some tweaking with the portable housing for my Lowrance flasher though, but managed to get it to fit inside the housing.

I use this tie-lok and it works great along with a 12 volt sealed cell from Cabelas that will last for days without a charge.

I also have one of those, but as I said they tend to swing back under speed.

I have found the board and C clamp works better and is less expensive.

That said I will be using my Tite Lok unit on my inflatable pontoon this year as it will work fine with my 30# trolling motor.

I have had issues with Cabelas not being able to ship to Canad quite a few times.

Each time they no idea why they weren't allowed to, but I also believe that most of the time it has to do with distribution rights.

I tried to order a pontoon boat thet they had on sale last year and they could not ship it to me. I have had the same problem trying to order new seats for the boat from Cabelas.

Totally depends on water conditions.

Your best bet is to buy one of the complete outfits from a decent manufacturer.

Try and stay away from the real cheapo outfits.

The major concern is not the adults but thier offspring.

The time young steelhead are in the headwaters will put them in direct competition with the browns and brookies, not to mention the atlantics.

The headwaters being small and limited can only carry a finite amount of fish. When you exceed that capacity the weake species always loses.

The young steelhead will most likely displace the brook and brown trout from prime lies.

It is a delicate balancing act that needs to be weighed carefully.

Plenty of good starter outfits around. What kind of $$$$ do you have available?

I used to think that the rod really didn't matter, until I got my first good one that is.

For beginners I think a moderate action rod will help you to learn as they are more forgiving than the faster actioned rods.

As was mentioned the 5wt would be a little light for throwing poppers for bass, but for hucking streamers and buggers it will work fine.

For small stream trout I use a Cabelas PT series 2wt. It's a beautifull little stick. For larger rivers I have 4 and 5 wt Sage RPLs. They are not available any more but they are wicked powerfull little rods. My 4 wt is actually my go to rod for steelhead that average to about 8#.

For larger steelhead in bigger systems I have 7 and 9wt outfits.

Here's a couple of chrome mid teen sized HO's caught on my 7wt las fall.

Let us know what kind of money you want to spend and we should be able to help you with some suggestions.

If they aren't going to fix the scratch it should at least cost them something.

A nice Yamaha jacket or a spare prop would be in order.

Last fall I bought a new Yammy and it took 6-10 weeks to get paper work.It will come.

Took about the same amount of time when I bought my new Yamaha Sled a year ago.

It took nearly 6 months to get my cash rebate check.

Ya, I used the suction cup last season (with petroleum jelly). It worked ok, but always came off eventually. I decided to either get a wooden board and C-clamp or buy one of those aluminum rods with clamps that are available from BSP for about $40. The board is probably a lot cheaper =).

Yep, it cost me $6 for the C clamp at Princess Auto and the board was free.

I had one of the Tite Lok transducer mounts and it kept swinging up when running at speed.

A waste of money IMO.

It will work fine on my inflatable pontoon though.

Just bolt it to a board and clamp with a C clamp. If you position the board in the correct place you can run wide open and mark depth just like on your regular boat. Don't bother with those suction cup mounts. They can come off while running and if you forget to tie off a safety line the transducer and or the fishfinder can be damaged if the transducer comes off. A friend had this happen last year and he has to replace the transducer as it got caught in the prop.

Just set the depth of the board and clamp on.

I've had a few different experiences with lighning.

Once while running my buddies 36' Hatteras out on Lake O little lightning bolts were shooting back and forth between the two VHF antennas on the boat. We decided we would be safer driving from the lower station.

Another time fishing at the center pier section of the Ganny my friend had sparks shooting off the guides of his float rod. We decided to retreat to the van for a while.

Lastly I was bass fishing and made a cast when lighning flashed and similar to Terry my line hung in mid air. The only difference was that the lure hung there too.

No need to go anywhere if you have last years license just go online.
