  1. Can't really go wrong with Vex, HB or Marcum.

    I have a Marcum and it's a great tool.

Tried a regular FF but it's just too cold for them up here.

The screen just slows down way too much.

Not an issue with a proper ice fishing flasher or LCD sonar with a heated screen like Marcum's LX-7. ;)

The Vex's have a fixed zoom (bottom) while the HB's and Marcum's zoom can be placed anywhere in the water column.

This can be important if you fish suspended fish like crappies.

  2. We used to get our firewood from a flooring mill in the Belwood area.

They deliver and it's all kiln dried hardwood flooring off cuts.

A lot of little stuff but it burns well and is cheap.

I think they were charging under $100 for a truck load delivered to our place up by the marsh.

We made a bin lined with chicken wire to hold the wood and just tossed it in the bin.

    No stacking needed.

  3. Keep in mind that you will need 2 batteries and you will really want an on-board charger to charge them up.

I have this 3 bank model from CT that is made by a highly respected manufacturer (Schumacher electric) and has a 5 year warranty.

    This is the Schumacher version

And if you feel like checking out the manual

And this is the rebranded Nautlius version @ CT

FYI: wait for them to come on sale as they usually do a couple of times a year.

Sale price is usually in the $125 range. ;)

  4. Yes a 60" shaft would work fine.

I got a stupid good deal on my TM used (sort of). ;)

A guy who moved up here from Toronto had a Lund Tyee 19' that he bought brand new in TO in 2010.

The TM was part of the package and in the time he owned the boat he never used the TM. :D

Got it (80# Minnkota Powerdrive I, Autopilot, Universal sonar and quick release mounting plate) for.............................wait for it..................................................................................$150!!!!!! :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:

I couldn't get out of my office fast enough to go get the deal of the century!!!! ;)

  5. I use mine for running the shallows casting as well as slow trolling on windless days.

I also is is for drift correction and orientation when drifting.

Plenty of options fishingwise where it is useful.

On your boat I would want at least an 80# and would want wireless as well.

Another big plus is autopilot like the Minnkota I have has. A lot less messing around trying to keep your boat going where you want it without having to constantly babysit it.

You're looking at some $$$$ though.

My motor is a Minnkota powerdrive version I with auto pilot and I added the co-pilot wireless accessory.

I would love one of the ipilot models though. :D

  6. Heinz hunts for food not trophies.

He is donating the rack to the territory to put on display.

He didn't go out to kill the biggest moose he could find, it just happened that this one came along.

It could have easily been a small racked moose and would have suffered the same fate.

Moose sausage, roasts, steaks, burgers................................... ;)
