  1. I'm making reference to new single hooks that do not look like the classic J "siwash" hook. The newer generation aint so plain, the hook bent in, sometimes is barbless, and typically have a longer penetrating point.
  2. Those of you who fish for large fish and want to avoid trebles are often told to use Siwash hooks and they there are newer updates to this standard hook. The classic straight “J” profile logically isn’t ideal either to hook or hold fish. The guys down south recommend hooks like, Big Gun or Shout Kudako wide gap. Also do I want the same single hook on both a spoon and jerk bait? Some will run one single and a treble on a jb.
  3. Leafs to game six so already a better post season then last season. This year Boston is better then last years Capitals...and therefore a better season. Things are looking up!
  4. Chara is a very tall pylon...and was exposed several times. I really thought the Leafs were the better team until those 2 on 1 goals were scored. Rask was the difference. As a Leaf fan it's not about winning the cup now. It's about incremental improvement. I'd like to see them win in Boston with Kadri. Drop Moore....and keep Plec on the top line.
  5. And we so nice to Matt and try to take him seriously. Come on Matt, crap on the leafs when they are bad but that was no game given to the Leafs by the refs. I'm expecting some praise when the Leafs do well...otherwise you are no better then those ugly gnarled Hab trolls who have no real reason to live except to be a hater.
  6. Leaf fans need not put their knickers in a not. Two years ago the Leafs were the worst team period. Boston probably has the best 2nd 1/2 record in the league. Like the young Raptors this will take time....look to 2010 and 2011. If they get blown out in the first round in those years then the Leaf fans can go bananas.
  7. It could be worse...the Capitals as #1s lose two at home. I'm thinking one win at home and we will go from there.
  8. As I have said before the only poaching of fish I've ever seen was done by Americans. I could say they were the cooler brigade ( beer goes into camp and a cooler worth of fish fillets leaves the camp ). I could harp on Americans every time an American is caught poaching fish....but then that would be really jerk like and why? Unless someone is going to state with evidence that the vast majority of all poachers are one group only can we just stop with racist tinged threads? That goes double for native racist tinged threads.
  9. For all his bluster Matt is always silent when you bring up the important stuff....Ottawa's playoff record!
  10. Wait....as bad as the Leafs were did Ottawa ever beat the Leafs in the playoffs?
  11. If it is one canoe only some sort of communication device....big water with big wind/water action.
  12. The whole defense issue is a red herring. As stated before with a gun in the house an accidental death of someone in your house is more likely then you killing a bad guy with a gun in your house. You are more likely to die of scalding water...you are 180 times more likely to blow your brains outs... The reality is armed robbery of your house is a relatively rare event, especially in Canada. In the US the risk of dying by a robber with a gun in your house is 0.0000002. I'm sure it happens but I've never even heard of it happening to someone I know, let alone experienced it.
  13. The worst fishing is the first heat wave....dead calm waters Wind? Think wind currents.
  14. I don't care if you own an AR-15 or for that matter a howitzer...that is if you have followed federal laws. We are in the land where "good governance" is the norm and what the people want, We want our government to work for all people, not total freedom for everyone to do what each individual wants and screw those who have legit concerns. I would expect or National government to try to get restrictions right for each weapon. I would hope few could own a howitzer and that it would be heavily restricted. It wouldn't bother me if some totally responsible establishment had one howitzer so that you could pay to fire it. The restrictions on AR-15 sound about right. I'm open to listening to counter arguments for either weapon. It sounds like most motivated citizens could own the AR-15 if desired. The default position is that buying lethal weapons should not be easy and that restrictions need to be in place for public safety. Beyond that I don't care. The less guns the better in my opinion but if there is a huge public desire for guns that is okay too. Back to the facts and reality...all around the world stats show that generally more gun ownership equals more gun deaths. It's more complicated then that but that general outcome holds true.
  15. Yes, perhaps it's best if some people don't own weapons. I choose not to have guns in my house because they are a bigger danger then they are a tool of safety. Reality MB2, consider reality. Think of it...with all the gangs and crime in the US, still 6 out of 10 gun deaths are suicides. Then there are the accidental deaths. Just in the last month two teachers accidentally shot either themselves or students in school! More guns = more gun deaths period.
  16. Obviously you didn't watch the video. I have fired guns. I don't give a rats ass about you owning guns. Stop with the shrill, they are going to take my guns away Bull. I only care when zealots try to erode necessary restrictions on guns.
  17. The house should be divided. Get off your high horse and recognize reality. Some have made the issue of guns into a moral cause approaching a patriotic duty. In the end they are lethal weapons that end up killing far more innocent people then bad guys. They need FEDERAL restrictions for the safety of population. As to your second point, seriously, should every Canadian have ability to buy an AR15? Does every Canadian need one? It is a weapon of warfare as documented in the G&M video below https://www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/video-the-ar-15-in-canada-what-you-need-to-know/
  18. When 6 out 10 gun deaths in the US are suicides, and you as a good guy are more likely to see a loved one killed in your house by accidental gun death then you are likely to kill a bad guy with a gun in your house, ...the target audience for police collections could simply be anyone that is concerned about overall safety of having a deadly weapon within their household. May be grandpa has gotten a little to "dark" lately. I have no problem with people owning guns for hunting, collecting, or that are required for pest control etc. But, that doesn't mean that every type of weapon should be available to everyone. The actual need for guns for protection in Canada is WAY over hyped by the fear mongers. I'm all for police gun collections and I am all for further restrictions on assault like weapons of warfare. The evidence is overwhelming more guns = more gun deaths period.
  19. They looked impressive tonight, no one is really looking for them to get past the first round but if someone was offering up odds against them I'd take that bet.
  20. As bad as a miscarriage is it can potentially be a blessing. We had a horribly deformed child come to term and we didn't know until it was born. That was tougher then any death I have experienced and there have been tragic deaths in our families. The child lived for about a week always on death's doorstep with seizures. I agree with DM, if you have healthy children count your blessings.
  21. It depends on the fishing. I wouldn't bonefish without them. If you like to do the majority of your fishing trolling or jigging it wouldn't be worth a good pair. Ditto if you are fishing low visibility water which would include some cottage lakes. But, if you stand when you fish and the point of contact isn't too far away AND the water is clear you may see fish before they see you and you can sight fish and target them. You'll also see some hits which I don't know if it increases your hook up rates but it makes the whole experience that much more fun. Also if money isn't too much of an issue a great pair of glasses just makes the summer that much nicer.
  22. You got Polak and Martin...Babcock isn't playing Martin perhaps resting him for the playoffs and a series when that grit is required.
  23. Tarpon fishing should still be hot...I'd be considering inshore fishing.
  24. Funny the number of times that when someone makes improbable claims that it's just not true if one checks. http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/paradise-papers-stubhub-1.4395361
