  1. I'd say based on some of the conversations I've had here with some folks that the bit of company you might find yourself in on the bank would be welcomed company. There are a lot of good people here....I wish more of you were from my way! Keep up the great work! Also, you could always edit the pic to disguise the area I suppose. Cheers.
  2. I haven't read much love for the BPS baitcasters in the past, but the prices right now look really good especially since I have a good buddy on his way shortly from the USA with a BPS in his backyard. I'm in the market for a couple casters....any more feedback?
  3. small price to pay for living in god's country I guess!
  4. flyer is a must. Sucks it even happens in the first place. I'm sure if a demanded a mgr. a flyer wouldn't be necessary, but I'm generally in there on weekends and waiting for the on-duty mgr. can take a while so a flyer is the way to go. Anyone know of any other chains with "regional pricing"?
  5. ......c'mon leave the eyes alone! lol Lake O ain't that far!
  6. Anyone been out in this area lately? Fishing's been solid.....most in slot and tough to bring home a nice feed for family...an iindication that the slot is working and the next few years could be fun is that most I'm getting are in the upper slot!
  7. watch for CTC and their "regional" pricing. Here in Elliot Lake because we have a small store our prices (in the flyers too!) are up to 15% higher here than let's say Sudbury (1.5 hrs away) or even Espanola 1hour away and a town a third of our size! That drives me nuts! Crazy thing is if I bring in an on-line flyer from a CTC in a different postal code my store will match the price but I have to bring in the printed version of the flyer!
  8. I often wonder the same and I've been fishing a couple times a week for years. I do find though and it could very well be in my head that I'm more successful when I tie my lures (mainly jigs) direct to my line as opposed to using leaders/snap swivels like my fishing buddies do. Try the red power pro.....even in clearest of waters I can't see it a couple feet beneath. Also, try tying a couple feet of fluoro or mono from a barrel swivel at the end of your PP and tie it direct to your lure. Good luck
  9. Walleye, pike, smallies and perch. Like anywhere, fishing can be hot or cold. I've been a couple times and never got huge numbers, but success nonetheless. We've stayed at the Agnew Lake Lodge and were very satisfied.
  10. 6 lb avg is crazy.....smallies or buckets. Not sure if even lake Okeechobee in florida could be classified a 6lb avg lake and I've fished it!? I did get to see my first 25b (1 6lber 3 5lber 1 4lber ) stringer this summer here in Elliot lake on a lake where there's a free municipal launch 12mins from my house. Unfortunately he was a "harvest" fisher and I got to see them laying on his back yard lawn minutes before them met the knife!
  11. ......just got home. Fishing was slow yet fast. We were targetting eyes and boated lots of fish but only two eyes but both outside of the slot a 22.5 and a 26". Beauty fish. Weird thing, we didn't get any under the 16" slot but two other parties at the cleaning station only caught under the slot. Our nice surprise was half a dozen 18" plus smallies in 30 fow where we got our eyes.....also a pile a perch, some jumbos over 12 inches. Starting to heat up! Next week should be better!
  12. Hitting up the Spanish River/North Channel first thing in morning. Any advice? Anyone been lately.
  13. .........I second that opinion on the plenum???? If it is pooched, look into a "heatmor" unit. It's a wood furnace that runs through your existing duct work, yet the unit is outside and large enough to fill after dinner and good till morning. Not cheap, but according to a couple friends with one it is worthwhile. Also cleaner and easier than hauling your wood indoors. Good luck! I have a "Goodman" gas furnace installed 2 years ago and am quite happy. (touch wood)
  14. Ivanhoe is a good spot. Fished it this July while staying at the Provincial Park there (awesome park btw...free boat "beaching"). Fishing was good considering the unsettled weather we had. Lots of Pike in the 5lb range and 14-18" eyes at night and early morning. I'll go back. Apparently there are many lakes within a short drive where the fish is even better. There's also a nice lodge up the road from Ivanhoe where I got my bait but I forget the name? Also, Ivanhoe lake Prov. Park actually has a few smallish cabins they rent....I'm sure you'd have to book which means pay for them now.
  15. Congrats! Too bad no picture. You'll continue to have a pic in your mind though, I got my first two weeks ago and am still dreaming of her! Welcome from a fellow newbie.
  16. Very fun! Be careful though.....I'm going to guess with all the rain this year the holes are deeper and water is faster! Nice thing is there is always a friendly face close by to help out if need be! There use to be sanctuaries all over that you'll actually have to walk past/through....be sure you're past those....lots of eyes around and you wouldn't want to make an honest mistake that costs you. It used to be well posted but I haven't been there is a couple years.
  17. not really sledding distance. I do really well up north at Rocky Island year round and in the Spanish river at Spanish plus the north channel and Serpent river plus north channel in spring and fall.
  18. Booming for sure! I've heard nothing but good things of 5 mile. My folks have been a few times. Hopefully the snow is good for you. Natives are predicting light snow (wasp nests are only 4 feet off the ground) therefore at least your ice should be good. I rarely fish for eyes in winter as I can jump on my sled from my yard and have a line in the water on a very productive speck, splake or laker lake within 30 mins. Eyes are a day trip minimum requiring trailering which I only do once or twice a year.
  19. Glad to have you...lots of room on my 16.5ft Sea Nymph Fishing Machine. It's an older model with the front and rear casting decks......70HP Mariner I lover her! I know the Chapleau area well and make sure to visit the Chapleau to Timmins corridor a few times a year. What brings you to our little neck of the woods?
  20. Black Creek Outfitters.....very reasonable, and good walleye fishing on both Aubrey Lake and Rocky Island Lake. Lots of speck lakes near by too! New owners...clean and fair. 7 hrs tops from T.O. It's on hwy 129 less than an hour north of Hwy 17 @ Thessalon (1 hour east of Sault Ste Marie) Good luck!
  21. I'd be glad to share some of fave honey holes (there are plenty of lakes/hot spots for everyone to enjoy responsibly!) or provide a free day of guiding. If you're ever in the area.......the lake trout are abundant and easily accessible lakes are plenty! Nice thing is....most offer multiple species! If the lakers are slow....target the smallies!
  22. I googled "fishing reports" and found the link. I lurked for weeks.....became "hooked"!
  23. The St Mary's is a very underrated fishery. Just about every species available. Are the eyes hitting yet? Have you gotten to experience the Yooper anchor over the wall at the power plant??? Neat stuff! Watch for the natives hurling their monster trebles with their "snag" retrieve on the US side for salmon this time of year. The pier is usually jammed full this time of year. A crazy thing to see. I nearly got into a fight the first time I saw it! A sad sight to be seen!
