  1. Lovely stuff Ryan! But why would the CA destroy fish habitat? Makes no sense.
  2. Had this come up on the board recently. Make certain that you identify the species without question, because one of the other species that occurs here is protected.
  3. Some species are considered a delicacy, to the point where nobles could be sanctioned for not turning enough over to the king. And, just to look like the pseudointellectual that I strive to be; they are NOT eels as many think. Not closely related at all, being vertebrates is about as close as it gets.
  4. Koi and goldfish are just carp with bling.
  5. And with that Twocoda redefines the term 'backhanded compliment'. Thanks, and that's exactly the same sequence I shot it in, no shifting around the clips. I learned years ago when I used Super8 movie film that it was easier to plan it out in my head than cut and splice later. Although, just to brag, all my friends used to get me to splice their films, they said I was good! Hmmm, we need a 'patting yourself on the back' smilie.
  6. Picked up a new videocam a while ago, not top of the line but better than what we had. Interlaced HD apparently, not that I understand what that means, just that it isn't full HD. The software has been a bit of a pain to work with, JVC likes to do things differently. But I'm gradually getting the hang of working with it, and with Youtube, and I put this short effort together recently: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uoKtWoheiJE
  7. Used to throw a weedless Five of Diamonds, but a pike broke it off a couple of years ago and I never got around to buying another one.
  8. Tried a Husky Jerk, even worse for weeds. Somewhere in that bay is a pike with my name on it, just need to keep trying.
  9. I realised that my arithmetic is a little off, teams carry many more pitchers than they do at other positions so that cuts the averages a bit, but I think having more than half on the hill is still pretty impressive.
  10. Oh, I was doing it, but like I said, once it picks up a chunk of milfoil the action is killed, impossible from then on. Got tired of clearing it after every cast.
  11. You're really asking for it by posting a thread with that title around these clowns! I think they let you off lightly this time.
  12. Went down to Frenchman's Bay this evening, a few dozen casts with the Zara Spook. It would start nodding back and forth quite often, but all but about 3 times it would just stop after a couple of feet and then track straight in. Weeds. Couldn't see a lot floating, but they must have been just under the surface and everywhere. Really screwed up the lure action once it picked up a load. Oh well, lesson learned - if you pick up weeds continually, give up on that technique and try another lure.
  13. From Ontario Streams There are five species of lampreys in Ontario two of which are non-parasitic. The American brook lamprey has been captured several times in the Grand River and the northern brook lamprey has been reported but not officially confirmed. The American brook lamprey seen here is often found in clear, sandy or rocky-bottomed habitats in association with brook trout. Lampreys spend most of their life span in a larval or ammocoete stage where they bury themselves in the soft bottom and feed by filtering algae and zooplankton from the water or sediment. After transformation, brook lampreys may survive for up to nine months without feeding after which they spawn and die. They are favoured food of predatory fishes and are thus an important link in the food chain between algae and brook trout. Apparently some are protected, so make certain of what you have before killing any.
  14. Heard an interesting fact while listening to the ballgame today. 236 Canadians have made it to the Major Leagues down through history. Now, given that there are 9 positions on a baseball field you would think that there would be an average of about 25 or 26 Canadians at every position. Nope. 120 have been pitchers, that's more than half! And some great ones too, legendary names like Ferguson Jenkins and Phil Marchildon. Which means that when the snow flies you only need to ask a Canadian kid one question: Is it packin'? IS IT PACKIN'?
  15. Put your feet up, relax, and clear your mind. The better to think of what you're going to do for me on father's day. I'm going to Hell for this, I just know it.
  16. Haven't read through all the replies, but one thing I must have, and I recommend it for everyone, is Imodium, or the generic tablets known as loperamide hydrochloride. I have irritable bowel syndrome, and it isn't fun. If you do pick up some sort of stomach illness which gives you 'the runs' you could get dehydrated, and that's dangerous.
  17. BINGO! It isn't ethnic, or racial, it's cultural.
  18. Yeah... ... ... ... ... But accurate!
  19. Meh, where I come from we hook those through the lip and cast them out for giant bluegill.
  20. Do you have a link, or any other contact info?
  21. Looks like an owl, possibly a Great horned.
  22. Do you have any more info on them? I found what appears to be a web site, but it's rather generic, with lots of different suppliers on it.
  23. Too much outdated Viagra getting flushed down the drains.
