  1. Definitely not a crucian carp golfisher. Caught a few Crucians in the UK and they look different - particularly the mouth as they feed up in the water rather than on the bottom like the common carp do the majority of the time. 007
  2. Nice fish Vic, and congrats on the PB. Doesn't matter what size they are, those carp are fun to catch. If anything the smaller ones are much more pleasing to look at than those big fat ones that dsn, MJL, Photoz etc catch LOL Well that's my excuse for catching the small ones only 007
  3. Congratulations on your first pike from the T.O Islands. There seems to be plenty of those small ones around this year (not that Urban Angler or I are catching nay of them LOL). Wonder where the large ones are hiding? 007
  4. Don't worry Urbanangler, you'll get them soon. Same thing happened to me last night down there - no pike caught, though I did hook one but lost it. Better luck next time.
  5. Great report and congratulations on a good day out. You caught some nice fish there and sounds like everyone enjoyed themselves. Pity I missed the photos before editing, can't stand the photoshopping treatment but understand why. I was down there in the evening on Tuesday - haven't had chance to do a report yet - did hook what I presume was a pike on a mepps but it came off - story of my fishing year really. I think my friend and me may have walked past you guys when we arrived ay Centre Island. 007
  6. Thanks for the update suds. If you don't mind me asking what bait/lures were you using? How deep were you fishing? I will be camping at Lake of Two Rivers in a couple of weeks and would really like to catch my first laker. Also, did you try Mew Lake? I can't find any info anywhere on what is in there and whether its worth fishing. Cheers 007
  7. Hey snag man (still can't bring myself to call you snog!) You're completely right that it is not wise to give out exact locations, walking directions to spots or show pictures of very obvious locations in reports, particularly for urban locations like T.O as there is a lot of pressure from both decent anglers and lurkers who want to eat everything they catch (why they would in T.O still defeats me) or guys that just don't care what condition they leave a spot in. Xrap's post certainly makes you want to be absolutely clear of someone's character or intentions before you give info out or take someone fishing. But I do think if you know someone or trust them that PMing them info is ok (but you can never be 100% sure it will stay secret I guess). I certainly hope that OFNcers will still help other regular OFNcers out (as I for one have learnt a lot from this board). I personally don't like photos with blanked out backgrounds BUT just from an aesthetic point of view - it really detracts from a nice photo, but if its a really sensitive or secret spot then I completely understand the reasoning why you and others do it. I choose not to photoshop my images but I do try to protect the locations as best i can by photographing against a non-descript background or shooting a pic of the fish on the ground or just not posting those photos with obvious backgrounds. I really hope that what happened to Xrap and others does not start a trend towards people not posting reports on the board or stopping photos altogether - as I think we will all lose out. Just my thoughts. When's your next pike report coming our way Snag? Everyone seems to be catching the small pike - the large ones are obviously waiting for you at spot X - you know the one - the one with the fuzzy looking sky and background Cheers 007

    Ticked off

That's disgraceful. Talk about betraying your trust. Who needs friends like that! I don't blame you for feeling so angry. Why can't people respect the fisheries and protect them instead of destroying them by keeping so many fish and OOS/spawning fish. I don't understand these people that ruin it for everybody else.
  9. Thanks for the report FHR and the hope it gives that they're out there after being skunked at the weekend without so much as a follow or even seeing one! Can't wait for your first successful report with pics. 007
  10. Good job dsn - still the GTA carp king. Nice action shots. How you don't lose more fish though while you're taking the photos I will never know LOL. I tried to PM you too but MJL explained why I couldn't - totally understand your reasons. Good luck with the pollen allergies too. I might try the islands tomorrow after work - still trying for my first carp of the year. 007

    gar pike

Wow what an amazing looking fish. Would love to catch one of those. Those and Bowfin sure are prehistoric looking. Thanks for sharing the pic. 007
  12. Nice pike there ehg! Good job. You did better in 2 hours than I did in 5 hours on Saturday. I better get out there and try harder! LOL 007
  13. Congratulations on your personal best pike!
  14. Spot on grilw - I got skunked carp fishing, then tried for pike and got skunked and then even had a Bowfin swim right past my bait without a sideways glance. I hope some other guys at the islands had more luck than me?
  15. Ouch! I know how that feels - it's a year to the day since I did exactly the same thing as you down at the T.O Islands! It was last year's pike opener that I hooked my first ever pike but painfully ended up in St Michael's having a treble removed from my finger! I learnt the hard way to be careful when unhooking those small pike - they're difficult buggers. I was out at the islands today to mark the anniversary but didn't manage to hook any pike or my finger (thankfully)! Glad you guys got into some pike though before it all went wrong. You'll be out there again soon. Hope you have a speedy recovery. 007
  16. WOW!! Nice photos. WOW!!
  17. Great report MJL. I knew it wouldn't be long before you hit the islands for carp. Nice Bowfin though - wouldn't mind catching one of those to cross of my list. I'm going to try and be out at the islands tomorrow and catch my first carp and pike of the year if possible. 007
  18. Congratulations Pikeie on catching some very nice perch, and kudos to you for putting those big breeding females back and thinking of the future generations of jumbos.
  19. Nice fish dsn, but we don't see it on shore, so did you really land it! LOL I only ask because I hooked into a beauty at your other T.O hotspot that you recommended last Sunday but it came off just as I was going to land it! Would have been first of the year. I also tried Centre Island last Saturday but it was too cold and there were no carp or bullhead to be seen. Are you sure you weren't a carp in a former life - you always seem to find them and avoid a skunk. All the best 007
  20. Nice report. I love fishing small creeks/streams. Beautiful fish - especially the Brown Trout. 007
  21. Nice report MJL. Some beautiful fish there. Looks like you've got the gift of catching more than just big carp. Thanks for sharing your journey. 007
  22. As usual great report, nice fish and lots of good photos (though most of the fish don't have a tail in the photos! LOL) Keep up the good work and keep us all drooling at the results. 007
  23. Thanks for the report. They may be small but at least you caught some fish. Congrats. 007
  24. Way to go - nice fish.

    The 3C's

Hey dsn. What scared me was the fact that last May I saw a father and son keep two bullhead 'cats' they caught down at the Toronto Islands. Most of the bullheads I have caught down there have some kind of weird growth (though yours have to be the worst LOL). How crazy must a person be to eat bottom dwelling fish out of the Toronto Harbour? 007
