  1. nice fishin guys....great looking chrome, and way to put that custom net to use as well I can attest to the Rainshadow blanks/rods...I have seen a big variety of them in action from my 7 footer Med action I got Cliff to build me for a new boat rod this year..to 11.6 bottom bouncing rods...right up to 13 to 15 footer 2 and 3 pieces..they are all great rods...light,sensative, lots of backbone as well....and they come with a warranty as well. They have a great variety of blanks. Looks like you guys did your homework, and got out at the right time for the weather and waters to cooperate a bit for you on the mission
  2. I think it is to make the wire run straighter than with a twist in it.......I have way more success for fish on R bend spinner baits than twisted ones.
  3. I just tie them straight on..I find if you use a snap or a swivel it goofs up the action of the lure..you want it to run as straight as you can...even after I catch a couple fish on one, I toss it out to check the action, if it is not running true, I bend the wire until I get the straightest action I can.
  4. guess ya had to wear a shirt poor buggers probably calling up 911 all day trying to figure out what the funny white stuff was falling from the sky
  5. a "newish" guy to the board asks for some advice on a motor for a new boat he got and it turns into some sort of arguement that's really cool folks
  6. ....I have had absolutely zero issues with my 40 -2 stroke, it's not silent to the effect that you wouldn't know the motor is on unless it was peeing water and beeped when you turn the key , but it's not all that noisy. It's decent enough on gas, you don't get choked out with fumes, planes out really quick which is great, my kids like to tube, and a couple people I know have ski'd and wake boarded behind my boat. As far as oil fouling things up like the plugs....I have never had one issue with that, still the original plugs in it from new in 2003. I use it 12 months a year with no issues at all in the cold either. If I where to buy a new motor for my smaller boat-14 footer rated for a 15, I currently run an old 9.9 2 stroke on it, I would definately go with a 2 stroke for a new purchase if I replaced my motor I use now. Weight would be a big factor as it is what they call an ultra lite utility boat and in comparison the 4 strokes look too big and heavy for the boat let alone the portablity aspect of having the tinner in the first place as a "pop in the water anywhere" boat for me....2 guys can pick it up and throw it in the water anywhere, load up the motor and gas and gear and off ya go I even asked the guy at the dealership how the weight difference may affect the max horsepower rating just because I thought that the 4 strokes looked too big for the boat...being as the boat was new in 2003 and the market was not quite dominated by the 4 stroke bandwagon, they looked into it for me in the specs according to the 2008 booklet, the conclusion I got was the horsepower ratings didn't get affected but the max load for people/ motor/ gear is different I am just giving an example.....you can always get some great advice from a fishing forum, but don't beat your head against the wall too long, there are always going to be huge differences of opinion...just like brands of motors, boats, cars, beer..ect......people like what they like and some will always say that thier choice is the best and everyone elses sucks don't get caught up in all the hype..in the end do what you think will give you the most of what you want out of your boat/motor combo
  7. beats me , always just called it the "fishing knot" it's more on the lines of what Kemper was talking about in his reply...wrap it around, put it through the hole, spit on it and tighten , it's worked since I was a little kid and still works today so can't be that bad
  8. I use the same knot since I was a kid..just call it the "fishing knot" ever since I can remember...it's simple and never lets me down
  9. too bad my wife had to work and I had kids duty, like mainly always happens due to tournies being on weekends..would have been a good time. last trout derby I was in this year, I won biggest brown...well, I was one of the organizers..had to come through with something
  10. I gotta agree with Smokin Joe here, the U.S. stocks alot of fish annually, and on top of that, they maintain thier boat launches and also access to some fishing areas as well
  11. hard to get a tally going for 2009 so far, but what I see in my pics is pretty close to 30-35 steelies, and 1 OOSer musky out of January and February so far, I have not gotten out nearly enough ion the last say 6-8 weeks I guess that is not a bad average for that length of time although haven't had a 15-20 fish day on the river in a while
  12. I have seen people use bedliner for the bottom of thier boats before....you gotta scuff up the aluminium first though and use the right primer to get the paint to stick
  13. my Merc (oil injected 2 stroke) just states to use gas that has 10% or less ethanol blend The 2 stroke oils TCW111 reated have additives already to help compensate for the issues with ethanol blended gas I have not had one issue with the motor for 5 1/2 years..never even had to change the spark plugs yet so there is definately no fouling going on or anything, I use the boat 12 months a year, gas doesn't sit in the tank too long

was going to take the boat out today but not very motivated to do so when I woke up and heard the wind outside, snow, not so much trouble, but the wind is coming a crappy direction for the river and supposed to hit up to 45klicks....somehow alot different than waking up and the sky is all sunny I owe ya a time out Joe, we gotta get out there soon man..weekends might be a little tough for me for a bit though...wife is back to work, only way to get out on weekend is a day that she starts at 4..as long as I am back in the driveway by like 3:30 it's all good PS, it's the river, if you know where to fish and how to fish em...they're biting everyday
  15. now when's the big party?....just have to cover all your hard work in plastic that day for all the Bull that would be flying around the room very nice job

I occasionally ice fish at my trailer for pike and walleye, didn't get the chance this year though..as for the most part..I find myslef hard pressed to go and catch a few dinky perch through the ice when I can hit the river in the boat or from shore and catch fish like that every time out
  22. have a great trip..be safe and have a blast. I am sure there will be a good report whe it's all said and done no matter how the fishing is
  23. good to see you guys still hard at it Bruce..pretty soon be some good open water fishin....you still have to get out steelie fishing with me about 2 months left of good fishin
  24. Got out for a couple hours on the big river again today with a good buddy of mine in my boat... We didn't get in the water until about 12:30..he had the first fish in the boat at 12:39 , not bad . Sometimes we don't know how to take that though..is it going to be a banner day..or did we just get jynxed.???? It took over an hour of expereimenting and working a quiet spot until I broke the ice with this hen got her back in the water and straightened the boat back out to continue the tail end of the same drift..I got this little premmie....soon as he got in the boat..asks me..hey...got milt? We broke down the area, I found the hot bait, and it was funny becasue the rest of the fish where pretty much in order...boy. girl..boy..girl kind of thing. This may be a great sign of things to come!!! I only wish we had a bit more time today...we fished just over 3 hours and went 7 for 9, my buddy was a bit bummed that 6 of those 7 where mine...kept bumming he couldn't fish becasue he had to keep bringing in his line to net my fish and get a pic for me was fun for me
