thanks people. this year was great for me. didn't get to fish that much, as i was really busy summer time but i was able to get variety...also caught my first chinook this year, 2 actually. i am just happy to start getting a hang of drifting......i kinda understand why you guys are addicted to it....i'm still tweaking my shot spacing though, the last one was fine, needs a little tweaking......i hope i don't become an addict, dont mind if i do either-wife might not be too happy about it...ha ha

billm, no it's not, it's the angle that i took the shot. the fiesh went back just fine. i was in a hurry i didn't position the fish well to get a good scale. i think he's in the 23-25" range. the cork on my rod is just under 21" and the fish is well over that.

lately man it's been all about just getting out and just enjoying fishing....numbers dont matter anymore, even 0's i don't mind. i've learned a long time ago that persistence, like you've said, pays. it's been a few years now that i kinda touched this style of fishing, by that i mean one or 2 outings on the river a year, but this year i've decided to really give it a shot, this is how i got started last year with carp fishing. if there's one thing i've learned so far is longer rod helps, still not a big fan of the super long rods, maybe it's bec i haven't tried them yet, he he...but i am happy with the 10' 6" that i have. see somone posted a link on shot spacing, that should be cool, what i have been doing is pretty much experimenting myself on the spacing, trying to figure out what works well for me.

caught on a 10'6 rod paired with an abu garcia baitcaster on single chinook eggs,#12 hook.started to try out drifting 3 weeks ago and this was the first one landed. had another one today as well but didnt manage to land it.same as last week. fish on but not landed.still learning but getting a lil better at presenting the egg as natural as i can. surprisingly i don't mind the baitcaster. will probably stick to this set up for a while don't wanna drop big bucks till i am sure i'll be liking this style of fishing , but so far it's been awesome.

a little off topic, recognized you by your pic, you were at the board walk last sat and i noticed the guy you are talking to had 2 rods/lines on the water. hope you are not buddies with this poacher,.

i was up at the stretch of the moira river that i like going to and fish off of, and man the algae is just out of control. didn't catch any thing had some small nibbles no doubt from rock bass but this place used to be almost always productive and beatiful..well it still is picturesque..just the algae..did see some of the usual fish i dunno what they are called but i've caught them before....they hace suckers like carp and similar body but slender and smaller , silverish and reddish hued fins....i've seen them discussed here before... i believe RAMBLE ON, Knows what they are. it just makes me sad to see this river this way. whether it is a natural phenomenon or caused by man it just pains me to see this river in this state.

i also added nuts and spring washers to the break in the main body. and modified the back rest a little bit. the strike indicator is a wynchwood.

hi guys i posted before when i made my rod pod....and about 2 weeks ago i lost it. finished fishing late thursday night and packed up all the gear and had all of it or so i thought....i realized a week after that i left it behind when i am about to fish again. i fish thursday evenings so if any one has seen it kindly return, much appreciated. the pod is custom made. i have pics here when i first made it. added a few things to it but these pics should give a very accurate look of it, i added knobs in place of the screws and some nylon on the legs for grip. it was packed in a brown curdoroy case, it includes the pod itself and the strike indicator too thanks ed i was fishing across the charter boats. i dunno if i left it at the parking lot there.

hi guys planning to be fishing toronto for pike, not lookin to steal anyones honey hole but i could use a little ponters on general areas to hit around toronto harbors...and also the islands i've never fished there and have only been on center island, for the amusement park so i am not familiar with it. hanlan, ward or center.... sorry guys but any pointers would help a lot... i can't wait to try out the spinners i have made for pike... didn't get the chance this weekend but maybe the next.
-
check out penn reels they are prettygood quality for the price
-
just checked it 20. so 1st sat in may till i go after the pike toronto harbour was mentioned in the exeptions so i guess it's part of it.
-
i thought it ouht to be in zone 20 , then i could be wrong that's why i haven't gone out for pike yet.
-
ouch...maybe getting a baitrunner will be agood idea ey? there are more options now a days. shimano , quantum, penn? you can always set your drag loose, then tighten up when you get a hit, it'll take practice. oh and not to get too exited when you get a hit bec you'll end up with a birds nest. good luck
-
hey guys quick question...are they on zone 20 or 16? wasn't quite sure where they afll under.was lookin to go after pike but am not sure. thanks for any info in advance guys
-
Ii was checking that out too. feels nice and smooth. i might get some myself. thanks for the info and tips guys. hirk i agree with you on the super braid being smoother casting due to the finer braid compared to power pro
-
that's reassuring joeytier, i found that with braids you gotta be careful with what knot you use i guess that goes with any line, gotta do it right.
-
i had the same issue with power pro once snapped at the knot, i think it was the choice of knot i used. i had a salmon on a spoon and snap...lost em. personally i like stren super braid and i still like power pro as well. i go after pike and i don't use wire leaders...so braided is as good as you can get...just have to check for frays often....tight lines guys
