  1. Detroit won the first two in last years series as well. As a matter of fact they kept the Pens off the score sheet until game 3 last year. There isn't a team in the league that's going to win 4 straight against Detroit in the final. They are like a well oiled machine. They may not have looked all that exceptional the first 2 games this series, but once they get rolling, they only get better and will really start to shut the Pens down. I think Pittsburgh may win one game but I believe this series is done in 5 games. Detroit has 4 lines that score goals. Pittsburgh has 3 guys that score goals. Just can't measure up. The Pens didn't face a challenging team until this round. The east is the much weaker conference. PB
  2. I've been up to Gowganda a number of times in the last couple of years. Check out my post here and you can see some of the fish I've caught up there. Shoot me a pm and I can give you some tips and a few locations to try while you're up there. If the place you're staying at doesn't have a meal plan and you don't feel like cooking one night head over to Auld Reekie for a meal. You won't be dissapointed! www.ofncommunity.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=26782&hl=gowganda+french+river PB
  3. Do you know any machinists? Doesn't look like it would be a hard part to make. PB
  4. I had a sportspal canoe a couple of years back. Was a great canoe until it got blown right off the roof of the car by a semi on an extremely windy day! Tore the roof racks right off the roof with it and the front end ended up going under the front tire of the car. Looked like a squashed can by the time it was done. lol They are a great and stable boat but the square back ones are a real tough canoe to paddle if you are running solo. If you get the little clamp on oar pins from Canadian tire, it does make it a whole lot easier for solo runs. I'd definitely get another one but wouldn't pay the price for a new one. There is a marine/atv dealership in New Hamburg On. that sells them brand new. I'm sorry but cannot remember their name but they are just a little north of the Tim Hortons/Hwy 7/8 that runs into Kitchener. PB
  5. That would be him. Odd to see him not talking though!
  6. what the heck.....can't figure out how to get left cupboard open! What's with the darn origami cormorant????
  7. What's the best way to remove the eyeball? PB
  8. I concur with Terry. Try the 20-24 ft range. Walk north of Gilford rd until your even with Kontiki Marina (Orange buildings on shore). Go about 1/2-5/8 of km east from shore and you should be in the right range. I've got a spot on my Gps I hit twice last year and then again last Friday. Hasn't let me down yet. It's in the above mentioned vicinity. Good luck and let us know how you did. PB
  9. 2.42 lbs, 15.13 inches long, 12.13 inch girth. Caught in Lake Erie March 2003. http://www.ofah.org/FishResources/index.cf...=7&RecID=46 One fat perch! My buddy caught this one last year at the bottom end of Cooks Bay in March. We figured it was around 14 1/2" as it was longer than the claw hammer I have in my box of crap I take out with me. PB
  10. We walked out off the end of Gilford road yesterday. Bite was slow but we managed probably around 90-100 between 3 of us. There are some rental huts about 1.5 km south of Gilford road (I think they may Ice Cabins huts). They're probably about 1/2-3/4 km from shore. Not too sure how they made out. By mid to late morning it was like watching the caribou migration out there. Seemed as if everyone was migrating out towards the middle of the bay to deeper water. If you go out from Gilford road, go north till you are about even with Kontiki and approx. 1/2 km from shore in 20-25 ft of water. I have a spot on my GPS that I've hit 2 times last year and ended up going to yesterday. I has not let me down yet. No weed cover just a mud flat but I think the perch cruise in and out of there feeding on the little shrimp as all the ones we caught had mouth and belly full of them. Good luck out there. Ice was around 2 inches of white on top of 5-6 inches of black. Saw a few guys on bikes and a couple of idiots blasting up and down the shoreline at mach chicken on sleds. Walking was relatively easy with the odd section bare and slippery, but with studs on my boots it was no problem. PB
  11. I've been up to Auld Reekie Lodge 4 times in the last year. I have fished there 3 out of the 4 seasons and can tell you the fishing is fantastic. The owners are second to none and definitely will do everything they can to make your stay the best! With your booking you get a boat on the main lake which is filled with many big fish (Lake trout, pike, walleye, whitefish, smallmouth bass) I pulled a 35 inch northern out of there this past fall. They have an outer lake that is chock full of smallmouth bass. 2 of my buddies and myself spent a day up there and caught 103 bass between the three of us. This lake is a great one for taking the kids to as the fishing is exceptional. Another outer lake that they shuttle you to is full of walleye. We always manage to boat more than our limit and have never come out of there empty handed(we don't keep em all for those raising eyebrows here Yet another lake they have a boat on is full of pike. We usually catch 30-40 pike in a day on this lake. There is also another lake with a short portage that is full of pike walleye and bass. This lake has access to the Montreal river and if you travel back a ways there are tons of fishing spots. The meals you get when on the meal plan are unbelievable. I think in all the trips I've made up there, I've only ever completely emptied my plate once. Urs can cook and he makes sure you don't leave the table hungry! They are about 5-6 hrs north of Toronto and well worth the drive if you ask me. They offer guided trips to East Shining tree and there guide will put you on the fish! Here's some pics from our summer trip and if you check back through the posts there is probably a post from my fall trip. If you want any more information just send me a pm as I've gotten to know the owners (Urs and Dianne Brunner) and their family extremely well over the last year and a half. PB
  12. You will definitely need a rigid bar to tow anything as it is a law now. Try a Jet Sled. The one I picked up is 52"x30"x10". Holds all my gear with room to spare. PB

  14. My uncle says they are quite tasty. He had one in his freezer last fall. Not too sure I would go out of my way to eat one but may try it if it were offered to me.
  15. I don't even bother taking the 2 jacks fishing. They'd be in the water chasing my lure every time I cast and trying to bite it every time I bring it in. One of them would end up with a hook in the mouth for sure!
  16. Managed to get up to Lake Simcoe yesterday with my dad and uncle. The weather was not very co-operative or pleasant but we decided to head out and fish the south side of Georgina Island for some perch. With the wind blowing out of the north at approximately 20-30 kmh, it was a rough ride out to our starting spot. The rain mixed in with the wind made for some very cold uncomfortable conditions but the fish were fairly feisty. We managed to bring 29 decent fish in the 10 inch range and one measured at 13 1/4 inches. Threw back a bunch of smaller ones for the next trip. The ride back to the boat launch was rougher than the ride out with around 4 ft waves coming at us from the Northwest. We all made it back safe and sound, a little wet and cold but we braved the elements and brought home enough perch for a good fish fry! Here's the beginning of the cleaning assembly line. The pre-cleaning quality inspection by my little jack. She likes to give each fish a lick as they come out of the bucket. Second stage is the fileting quality inspector. This cat likes to chew the fins off the fileted fish and enjoys the odd taste of fish eggs. Here's half the days catch. That's the 13 1/4" on the top. And here's the big one of the day. My dad is the one who actually caught it, but being the lowest seniority of the group of us, I'm the one who gets to clean the fish. PB
  17. Been up there the last two weekends in a row. Past Saturday there were a lot of people fishing but didn't see anyone catching. Heard on the marine radio some guys catching some rainbows in out in 50 ft of water, 15 ft down but that was it. I don't think there's been much of a run this year. Was about this time last year that my father in law came home with a couple of real nice bows but it had been much cooler with more rain. PB
  18. Give Diane a call at Auld Reekie Lodge in Gowganda. They have species specific lakes and you don't need to be a good fisherman to catch some fish. Reasonable prices and great hosts. http://www.auldreekielodge.com
  19. After sitting here in Woodstock in the rain on Saturday, wishing I was fishing, I got my wish and set off to Goderich. My inlaws have a sailboat in one of the marinas up there and had invited us up for a visit. About 30 seconds after my father in law and I setting up our fishing rods, my little sister in law starts hollering on the dock about having something huge on. I look over and there she is with her little rod just about bent in two, cranking on the handle of her old push button reel and not making any headway. The fish was too heavy for the drag so like a pro she grabs the rod and line and heaves a monster up onto the dock! She looked just like the pros do on tv. 15 ft from shore with a dew worm and she nails a 3 lb largemouth! My father in law and I are left standing there in disbelief. Well now we were both on a mission! A few docks further down I save my pride and not to be outdone by an 11 y/o girl I bag a nice 5 lb northern. One of the better fights I've had with a fish in quite some time! I then decided to see what was to be had in the "Mighty Maitland" and off I went. A short while later I returned with this beauty, a 3 lb smallmouth. Another great fight and the dinner menu was filled! Alas, my poor father in law was not able to rid himself of the skunk and lost another $3 ($1 for the first, $1 for the most, and $1 for the biggest). I think he's down about $6 now! It was a great outing and a good time. It was great to see Jenni nail the biggest fish she's caught to date. I think she'll quickly tire of the little panfish she's used to now though. PB
  20. Sounds like an oil lock in one of the cylinders. Happens once in a while. Oil gets built up between the plug and the piston and there's too much pressure to allow the engine to turn over. Easy fix though, just pull one plug and turn motor over. Then do the other one. Oil should shoot out of the hole the plug was in. After it's been cleared put the plug back in and take the boat for a good run. Will smoke for a couple of minutes but the problem should be fixed. PB
  21. It would be a crime to not have the HNIC theme anymore. I don't even really watch it because it's usually the leafs playing, but the song is a Canadian icon. My wife even let me have it played as we entered the hall at our wedding reception! PB
  22. We were targeting them. The ministry has been stocking the lakers for the last few years. I believe they have released somewhere in the neighborhood of 20,000 fish so far and will still be releasing more over the next few years. The bigger one was a stocked fish as it had the clipped fin so it looks as if the population is doing well. They even had eggs in them. The fishing in July is definitely much better and we now have an in with the local guide that Auld Reekie uses and he's been sharing some tips and tricks to use so it should be that much better for us on our next trip! PB
  23. I had the same problem with my Lowrance H2OC. Turned out to be a card problem. It did the same thing. Would freeze up and every once in a while it would work. Popped in a new card and haven't had a problem since. PB
  24. We actually stayed in the same cabin that Charlie Wray stayed in while he filmed his show up there. I think Cronzy may have done a show up there as well. The lodge is a great place. If you go on the meal plan or modified meal plan I'll guarantee you gain 10 lbs in a week. You will not leave the dining room hungry! The fishing is outstanding! They have boats on 4 or 5 outer lakes as well as the main lake and you'll not have a bad day fishing. Last year we landed 103 smallmouth in one day with 3 anglers. 34 walleye another day with 3 anglers. 25 pike in one day with 3 anglers. We are heading back up July 19th for another week of some serious fishing. PB
  25. Well my buddy Chris and I headed back up to Auld Reekie Lodge in Gowganda to give the owners a hand getting geared up for the upcoming season. We didn't fish as hard as we do in the summer but did manage to hit a few lakes in between the odd jobs that Urs had lined up to do. Here's my partner in crime. Fishing was slower than usual. I would attribute this to the still cold temperatures of the water. I don't think the big pike had moved up into the shallows yet. We were recording temperatures of 42-48 degrees in the shallows still. We did manage to pop a few decent smallies and a couple of smaller pike in our quest for the trophy. Before anyone gets too excited, there is no closed season on the aforementioned species up there and all but the lake trout were released to be caught in July. One cool part of the trip was that Chris and I both got to catch our first ever lake trout. Chris's was much bigger, around 4 lbs while mine was probably around 2 but they will be very tasty I'm sure! We had a great time and got a fair amount of work done for Urs and Dianne. We're both looking forward to the return trip in July! PB
