  1. Another thread was mentioning backing not being required because all line slips. It also sounded like some people don't use a knot to attach their line to the spool. I am an extra cautious (sometimes too cautious) guy.

With braid a backer is essential many meters of line will slip if the fish takes a lot of line out. I have heard of full spools slipping too. Mono slips a lot less, make sure it is stronger than the braid (if you get spooled you don't want the backer breaking). Tape that the braid can bite into works too. Some spools get cut if a backing is not used.

I was told that the plastic lined spools are for braid...I think its just for company bottom line, I have not experimented.

A knot is required when tying to the spool and use the proper manufacturer recommended knot for tying backer to braid (if one is used). My line recommends less wraps on the braid side of a Uni to uni.

It is extra work but you will be :wallbash: if the last moments of a biggest fish of your life fight are those last 10meters of line slipping on the spool. There was a thread here about someone dancing on the rocks fishing a fish that took them almost all the way down to the spool base before finally reeling her in (salmon?) Even more :wallbash: If you loose all your braid on the fish.

  2. Bass Pro brand rods go for 1/2 price several times a year. The one I got cost me $20. I am not saying it is a great rod but for $20 there is no crying if it breaks while doing something sill, I like using it...I am happy.

I also have a Shimano Compre medium action medium rod......it is also nice....$50 and no crying :P

In a few months Bass Pro will have that spring show thing they have every year.

  3. I have had Norton give false positives.

    BUT

I have had Norton flag viruses that it could not name but detected. Other AV found nothing. Months later every AV was flagging the file.

(sometimes Norton is behind other AVs)

My professional advice is stay clear of the site and ask the admin to make a statement on the issue.

Something is triggering Norton and it should be identified specifically. If the admin cannot state what is triggering Norton then the site should be considered hostile.

Configuring NOrton to trust the site is not the solution.

Assume your PC is infected and don't bank on it until......

PS: what is Stoty saying? He is a site builder, not that he should give free diagnostics and solve the ff.net issue for their admins.

  4. A lot of vehicles say they can to xlbs of weight and in brackets will have "if trailer has brakes"

Here are 2 sites that are stating you can tow 3500lbs with a towing package. It does not mean that the van will last if it is towing all the time. Check with a Ford dealer.

Options for late-2004 models include a power liftgate and a Class II towing package ($335) that will boost the towing capacity from 2,000 pounds to 3,500 pounds

  5. if time isnt a factor to when you need to use the battery.....put it on trickle charge ( 2 A ) setting and charge it slowly...but if you need th battery right away ..throw it on 10 A and your good to go in about an hour or so ....its much better to slow charge the battry then to power charge it ...

A 2A "trickle" charge is too much for some batteries when left on for an extended period of time.....all you guys leaving your batteries hooked up for weeks at a time should check the specs of your battery.

Mine says 1.5A max trickle charge.

  6. It depends on your battery. If it can take a 10A charge why not charge with it?

I have an AGM deep cycle.....infinite I believe as long as it stays under 125 deg F. I use 10A.

The best chargers are usually those multi-stage ones...CTC puts the intelligent ones on sale for about $50 a few times a year.

  7. I can't complain about either of them. I was very surprised with the Stren 14lb braid, it was supple like thread, maybe too supple, when creating birds nest on the bait caster it seemed to knot a bit tighter (thats bad) and eventually I ended up with a nick in the line so I put it on UL spinning reels. Other than that and price they were both good.

Power Pro was available in 500yrd spools at a good price so most of my reels have that and am sticking with it.

  8. I bought both. The minnows worked great, the leeches not so good. To be fair I do not think I was fishing the leeches properly or in the areas they would be most effective.

I do think that live leeches would kick gulp leeches though because action on a live leeches is amazing. Unfortunately the live leech would have every tiny fish that saw it tear it apart, Gulp would survive the little fish onslaught and stay on the hook.

  9. What ever happened to appreciating the gift you recieve? :dunno:

If I send you a pink hat with a rainbow on it as a present are you going to wear it on the lake for the day? :clapping: My feelings might be hurt if you do not.

There is a difference between appreciating the gift (an item) and appreciating the person. The latter is more important and goes 2 ways.
