  1. well i dont have any float suit or any thing but i wont be that far from shore and sadly none of my fishing buddy's have a kayak

Ask the water cops how long before your muscles cannot work proper if you go in. Then ask what your life expectancy is if you go in.

    I bet its not long.

  2. Educated guess: one of the larger transistors for the cathode or PS is blown. They are about the size of a quarter and silver.

A service guy could probably do it with their eyes closed. Call up an RCA guy with the model and he will know the general fix and how much it will cost.

A new HD TV is nice but they are still $800 (no name) to $1200 (good). I was in best buy yesterday and did not see a single CRT.

  3. Hope you live close to Gander Mountain so you can still pop in to get your gear when your local shop goes teats up because too many people chased "the Gander mountain deal" too many times? Oh wait they are in the USA aren't they????? :(

Nothing personal but felt a need to make a point.

Another OFNer gave me some the other day.....I pass on the leftovers to you:

  4. Reason for the reduction in price is to make way for the new lineup of Quantum reels..

    Good Fishing,

Thats what I was told in the summer too. The only thing that seems strange about it is that the big rebate deals have been going on since late 2007.

They have been clearing for a full year now?

  5. Those reels seem to be on a huge sale or with a huge rebate at all times at one place or another. I do not know if they were ever competitive at $190.

I picked one up (with bonus mono line) for $95 when the dollar was good :clapping:

Here is another sale on them, I think this company buys advertising here:

  6. 1) The students are adults. Some of them are more mature than a lot of people over 40.

    2) Is someone saying CF is more worthy than all other charities? I hope not.

    3) People like to donate to a cause that they feel personally effects themselves or those close to them.

    3) If the students choose to funnel some of their charity time/dollars it is their choice.....if they make a dumb choice all that can happen to them is criticism/political (school politics) fallout.

  7. I know it was $26 but how many people throw away their tackle receipts? A lot.

Using the "no receipt" excuse for a lure that is obviously defective is lame, lame, lame. If it was not that excuse it probably would have been another excuse.

I had some free time last week and went through the customer service headaches with 3 companies:

    1) Bass Pro: gave a band-aid fix. They still do not understand the issue

    2) Delta faucets: The only thing worse than this company is a company that does not answer mail. The Canadian customer service was good...US BAD.

    3) Offshore planers: after a few emails they were able to solve the issue (I am happy too!)

    4) Carpet World, Whitby, Ontario. OK...this was a few years ago. A buddy of mine and myself would equate these guys to shysters at best, con-men at worst and most certainly liars. Say good-bye to my business and others.

  8. They originated in the MIddle East.

    Nemo

    Quote from that site:

"It is also important to remember that you are likely to get as many different versions of the history of the bagpipe as there are writings on the subject. The true origin is still cloudy."

http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A748208: this site states probably in Asia. There are Hittiite carvings as far back as 1000BC showing a bagpipe instrument.

Maybe many peoples came up with the same idea a long, long time ago.

Its like asking: who invented fishing lures?

  9. My educated guess is that he was updating the firmware when the unit lost power. The instruction manual will state that if this happens you will have to send it to the manufacturer (did not read the IQ M5 manual) Call Garmin, send it to Garmin.

Your firmware (or OS?) chip needs to be reflashed. Usually, this is done by the internal software (that your dad was in the middle of updating).

If Garmin is charging for the repair you can also try Durham Radio to see what they can do.

  10. anyone here wanna go halves on that 2 for 1 deal?

I am thinking this might be a good time to buy in the states too.....forget about CDN $ at par.

Not looking for a new truck, I am looking for something that will do double duty as a family and boat towing vehicle (1500 lbs total). Maybe like a Subaru Outback.

Are the deals REALLY that good in the states?

  11. I'm really all not that eager for any of Irishfields stink cheese here but having said that, how hard would it be to have a Canadian version of the site? When you consider how many people shop at the Vaughn location you'd think it reasonable to have a website that accurately reflects what the prices are. You are really in for a shock on your first visit if you think prices even remotely resemble a straight conversion.

I agree they could have a Canadian only site, but, that is a business decision. I think there are some business or legal reasons for not be set up for Canada because Newegg.com took quite a while to get their Newegg.ca site setup. Now that they do its great, they still ship from the US via UPS and they do not get tagged with brokerage fees. I ordered on Sunday and received my items on Wednesday. I got the items that I could not find locally (checked 9 stores in Whitby and Toronto), I got them cheaper and fast.

The Bass Pro website is run a bit of a strange setup. There are a few other things they could do first; They could tell customers what stock levels are in the stores (lIke CTC), allow Canadian backorders, allow for .CA addresses. These things cost money, some let out information about stock levels. I guess the bottom line is that they think it is not good business. Maybe someone else will and then do it.

  12. Well Forest... I just had a good chat with Debbie in Customer service at BPS on their on-line customer service chat... using my .on.ca domain email with no issues. Instant response and correspondence.

Also just get an email, with a password, that they have created an account for me for future correspondence.

When I called today I was told customer service is closed until Monday (twice). So maybe you talked to a different department.

Did you try this link to email customer service? This is the one that keeps asking me to create an account even though I have entered my user account details:

  13. Good whine should always be accompanied by good cheese !! I've never had an issue with either BPS or Cabelas using my .on.ca domain email address.

Thanks for the cheese.....I did not have any....hey I did say "rant"

maybe it is some other filter that is rejecting my email......the website does not give me an error code and I tried on different days.

I have tried with the old website and the new.......try using the website form to contact customer service. I am in IT and did not imagine the issues, its no excuse for the other hassles though.

  14. My local shop is Ganon's...its always pay an extra 20% sale there. Tightline in good for a good selection of salmon stuff.

I have spent several hundred dollars at Lebaron's this year. Problem is that they are pretty far.

I have my own domain and like my .CA address. Why would I want to create and check a .com address just for Bass Pro? Every other website I know takes .ca addresses and works with them properly.....so..... Whats the cheese for?

  15. Sign up to receive the Bass Pro email specials and receive $15 of $75 on your first order' Great.

    1) The website would not take my .CA email addy

    2) So I called up and they said they would take care of it and get me the 15 off 75 offer

    3) A couple of weeks I get the account. Hurrah!

    4) Go to place my order on the web and it wants a key code...whats that? I did not get one when I signed up

    5) Attempted to email customer service via the website.....kept failing...no error. My educated guess is that its the .CA address

    6) Call customer service.....they have to get back to me.

    7) get an email saying they will honor the $15 of $75 or the current $20 off $100 promo...."just call us"

    8) update my order and call.....2 of the items that were available have since gone out of stock and cannot be put on backorder and my order cannot be held. I decide to wait.

    9) CDN dollar tanks another 7 cents

    10) items are in stock and I call and tell them about $20 off $100 and give my CC info

    11) they tell me shipping is $20...but the website says $13......they send a note to customer service

    12) I call 10 minutes later and ask for 'keycode" so I can forget about the customer service hassle and order on web

    13) they tell me that customer service has to do that and they are closed.....and my original phone order did not get the $20 off either!

    14) I have had enough and cancel the order.

If I lived in the US I would not have gotten ANY of this hassle.

Its to bad for me too...a couple of the items are not available around here (not even at Bass Pro Vaughn) and the rest will cost me a bit more.

Last time I shopped in the store some clerk took my cart full of purchases + my new, already paid for $130 reel because I let it sit for 1 minute. Now this Internet hassle. I think I am going to forget about Bass Pro because Bass Pro has forgotten about me.
