  1. Yeah they are on sale at Cabelas just be prepared for sticker shock!!! I ordered a set of stockingfoot waders from them on sale for 99.99 last year when I got them the price had exploded to 168.99 due to the same exchange rate it is now, handling, shipping/taxes and brokerage on all of the above. Sent them back which was only 16 bucks but here is the funny part. I had to sent them back to somewhere in Canada LOL. These are cheaper though and only 89.99 so you should do better and apparently the warranty is good. If you want lifetime warranty go with LL Bean a little more money but you will never have to buy another pay as long as LL Bean doesn't own a bank and therefore goes broke.

$160 for Cabela'....nah (your story has cared me even more now.

    Looking for something local

  2. I need a pair of breathable waders: Gortex is something probably out of my price range. Denier is what I am looking for. chest waders I think but waist high will do.

Any brands to stay away from?

Anyone know if they are on sale at Bass Pro or Lebarons? If someone has a pair for sale I am probably a medium (160lbs, 5'10")

  3. the tests....

Well...one flouro line rated at a higher knot strength than mono. But, they only tested one knot...the palomar....and did not say what diameter the knot hole was.

No stretch is about the only thing that is a common myth....but that is a good thing. People buy braid for no stretch...no secret, flouro for something else.....a stretch in a leader is good IMO.

Not sure what the abrasion test was about: they had dry and wet abrasion tests for the mono baseline test but only dry for the flouro? (I am not catching too many fish on rocky above water cliffs) Why is this important? Because the mono did a lot poorer when wet, so how did the fluoro do?

The tackle tour tests were not in any way of a scientific nature...more of a magazine nature.

  4. OK I am making my list and checking it twice cause you know what is gonna hit us in a few short months!

What is going to hit us? Hyper inflation?

If you are referring to a recession....shouldn't you be holding onto your money or are you planning on saving us all by spending?

  5. Answer to one of the most general open ended (therefore pointless) question I have read:

Just buy every length, both 2 piece and one piece in Extra fast you can find and you will get what you want for every species and every fishing method you use. YOu may want to stick with Fenwick, Shimano, G-Loomis, Browning and Bass Pro branded items to keep it simple.

Make sure you hire a caddy.

  6. Most tackle stores will sell replacements and put it on for you for about $5-$10 on the spot.

    If you buy it yourself:

-take the old one off, you may have to heat it up with a lighter.

-bring the rod into the store so you get the right fit for the rod end...the eye size is not so important.

    -clean the end

-use a glue from a heated glue gun and a lighter to hold the tip on.

    voila!

  7. Not regretting much here....I am very happy with the boat and motor. It is what I could afford and tow. I bought a 16' Lund SSV with 40HP motor, it came with drop in floors and a bunk trailer.

I have had absolutely no need for the 40HP....in fact I cannot use the full power of it unless I add 500lbs to my boat.

I wish I had something better than a Honda civic to tow it....that would have allowed me to buy a wider boat like Mike the Pike.

The boat is really comfortable with the floors in it.

The motor makes this low whining sound in neutral (no its no the LU)....its normal 4 stroke noise, belts and such....

    Things I did right?:

    4 stroke

    floors

    split middle seat

waited for the best design that would suit my needs.

    bought good rod holders

    bought the right anchor

    kept it affordable

    Things wrong?

I think I want a steel gas tank

bought bumpers that don't cut it all the time.

Did not get to fish on other boats to find out the best way to set up rod holders, storage etc.

  8. I was at Le Baron today and picked up two nice rods off the clearance rack, one is a Compre sale price 49.00

Also check out Gagnon in Oshawa they may have some deals.

A good deal at Gagnon's? There is a better chance of it snowing in Oshawa this weekend. But, its worth an indivudual comparing the prices to see for themselves.

$49 for a Compre? did they have any Muskie rods? Lebarons had a bunch of Rapala lures on sale too.

  9. Dump mono & flouro lines, swap the PowerPro suggestion for Tuf-Line, 1/3 cheaper.

Change the X-Rap colours to perch & clown.

nah....hes got perch already....who in their right mind does not have perch in their arsenal?

ditch the 1600 yards of line and go with a good braid backing and leader (mono or flouro)

    What about floats?

    jerkbait of size hJ14?

  10. I haven't read much love for the BPS baitcasters in the past, but the prices right now look really good especially since I have a good buddy on his way shortly from the USA with a BPS in his backyard. I'm in the market for a couple casters....any more feedback?

BPS continually puts their baitcasters on sale for 1/2 price.

My first was a 2 piecer from there for $20....I like it and will keep it as a trolling rod and med-big fish rod. It will get replaced by a longer, lighter rod with about the same backbone.

It was top heavy and BPS (CAnada) did not have any of the rod balancing kits so I had to balance it with electrical tape and quarters on the butt end. I like a balanced rod and found it gave me more control in avoiding birds nests while casting.
