yep! I'm going on a charter with Fishmaster. It's actually a present for my boyfriend but I'm excited because I've never caught a big fish before! (I'm a small trout kinda gal) haha But all your tips may still be useful as we may stay and fish off the dock after the charter. Do I have the right map by the way?

Hello! I'm trying to get directions for the Queenston boat ramp for the Lower Niagara river. I'm coming from Toronto-area and I know I'm taking the QEW, I just figured someone else might know specifically where to go so I'm not guessing. (I kind of get lost easily.) I found this on google maps, is it the right place?? Thanks!! Has anyone been there this week? How was the fishing??
-
Looks like you had a good week!
-
i think you just made my week! lol my charter with Fishmaster was postponed last week because of all the rain, and then this week wasnt looking that much better so I was starting to fear we wouldn't be able to go this week either. did you fish the Lower river?? If you go back this week please keep us posted on the fishing conditions

they can get expensive depending on the type, some are better then others or made of different material or just work better. i dont know myself which is best but have fun with it! the nice fly reels I've seen at Bass Pro Shops are always $50+ here's what wikipedia says.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fly_fishing#Fly_reels

do you think the bad conditions will last through the weekend?!! I'm supposed to be on Steve's charter on saturday I hope the water clears up.. but I guess a delay is better then not catching anything. *crosses fingers for the weather to get better*

I'm here to learn about fishing, not argue with people about my own personal opinions and health issues. This is ridiculous, I'm deleting my posts. -

poor guy! -
haha I really thought this might have been my boyfriend because he wears the exact same things, but then I realized he's not wearing a fishing vest! So it can't be him.. He won't be able to see this until next month but I'm going to show him because it's pretty funny how similar he looks from a distance.

I'm all for the anti-smoking laws too. -No offense given to any smokers in this forum, just my own preferences. -

I think I might actually be able to contribute to this thread! hehe I was flyfishing with my boyfriend last september and he caught a nice salmon on an 8wt fly rod, he uses a flueger (sp?) reel I'm pretty sure.. and he prefers sage rods but basic ones are still good. He always wants the 3 or 4 piece rods for convenience as well. I can't remember how long that one is (he has a bunch of fly rods) but I think it's about 8ft. For line I hear the braided line is really good. If your son goes for the big fish I'd recommend a 7-8+wt rod. If he prefers the rivers/medium fish a basic safe rod is 5-6wt. where I like the 3-5 wts for the trout and small guys . The bass pro shop in Vaughan is pretty good for questions and advice as well! If your in the area at least. edit: here's a picture of the salmon he caught, he had to chase it down the river for almost 20mins, it was too funny.

oh geez. i hope the person is okay! keep us posted if you hear anything. In my opinion it's more the angler's fault because he knows he has a hook on the line and he has to be careful if people are around.. but of course it's an honest mistake so I wouldn't put blame on him.. just that it could have been avoided.. I'm hoping it didn't catch anything that can't be fixed!! I feel bad for the angler too, I once hooked my boyfriend in the face with a fly when he was teaching me to cast, I didn't wait long enough for him to get out of the way and I just felt sooo horrible. luckily it wasn't barbed and it was just a scratch but I learned to be really careful when casting after that
