  1. It was a really large net, they had 6 people in the boat pulling it in. It was strange because I was seeing them throw fish out of the net behind them, not tossing but like throwing them. If it was a conservation authority you think they'd treat all the fish with more respect. I also thought if it was related to that the gentleman would have disclosed it.
  2. Hey Folks, Was out on Lower Buckhorn on Sunday and Monday Morning this week. Sunday night I ran into two boats one with 6 people in it roughly, the other with one guy (supervisor?) in it. I spoke to the one guy, he said they were live trapping fish to study the lake, said they had a 16 pound musky, a bunch of walleye, some other cool fish marked that day. He said they live release most of the fish. Anyone have an idea who they might be? I was purely curious whether it was MNR or a University/College or if by chance someone was harvesting Walleyes. I'm a bit confused. What are the regulations on fishing with nets in Ontario? James PS. Was able to land a 4lb Large Mouth and a 34" Musky while trolling. Weather wasn't co-operating with us.
  3. He's so awesome, check out his Youtube page people ask him silly questions all day long and he takes the time to personally help almost everyone. Going above and beyond.
  4. The worst thing that can happen is you can't go fishing because you have to work. That happened to me this weekend and was heartbreaking.
  5. My buddy goes canoeing out there all the time, told me a very similar story to what you just did. I'll ask if he knows anything.
  6. I wish I could share this spot however there is already too much angling pressure as is. It's a small bay with 4 or 5 cottages on it and people casting in every direction. Can be a nightmare sometimes.
  7. We would bring them up to check them to see if they were keepers or not. This one was clearly not a keeper size so there was no point in checking until afterwards when we wanted to know how big it was.
  8. I don't think they could if they wanted to either. Losing is the habit now.
  9. Thanks for all the answers guys, hopefully I'll have some nice pictures! James
  10. It's not like that, it's a bit more to do with assigning certain forwards who are capable of scoring defensive tasks. Ex. Clarkson
  11. The leafs have what is probably known as the most supportive fan base in the NHL, we sell out every game regardless of how crappy our team is because our market is huge. Teams in Florida, or middle US states have a very hard time getting fans out. Think about it if they put good teams in non hockey markets like L.A., San Jose, Anaheim, people will watch. I'm trying to find this photo I saw a while ago showing you the dispersion of the Stanley Cup over the years, it really helps prove my point and I might be able to find it. If I do I'll post it and it will shock you. James
  12. Boys, we got beat twice last night including at home where our first line NHL team was unable to tame mostly AHL players. It's heartbreaking. I've had good talks with some leafs and I have to be honest with you, the coaching and management don't want a win. They've told certain players who have the ability to light the lamp to basically hold back and stick to defensive end. I hear this from the players themselves. Don't get your hopes up
  13. Thanks guys, next time I will. It was a minute or so walk back to the cottage and I wanted to get this guy back quick. Next time I'll have a tape on me for it. Thanks Mike, that's a cool tool to use. James
  14. Any guesses on the length? It was very skinny for it's size but fought like a champ. Cool story as I got him on, fought him and he came off. Tossed the lure into the current again and boom back on.
  15. Hey Guys, I caught this earlier this spring, didn't have a tape measure unfortunately so I couldn't get a measurement. It dwarfed some 25" fish we got earlier that night, but it was fairly thin. For reference I'm about 6'4 300 pounds so I might make the fish look a bit small lol. Hoping some walleye experts could chime in with some guesses. James
  16. At least she apologized, that's more than you'll get from most. I had a similar instance of a dog at a park trying to attack mine for no reason as soon as it walked over but the rottweiler put it in it's place. It's amazing how stupid people are these days. No one realizes they're the problem until it's too late. At least she realized her dog was the problem.
  17. http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Owner-owner-hooks-oh-xiongwan-black-fishing-hook-long-shank-hook-fishhook-fishing-needle/1543450336.html Link for owner hooks factory direct.
  18. I've had fantastic luck purchasing off of www.aliexpress.com before. The supplier only gets your money once you receive your goods and are happy that they match the description. You can get some amazing deals and most of the prices include shipping for free. http://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale?SearchText=fishing+hooks&catId=0&initiative_id=SB_20140923104253 Those are the search results for fishing hooks. Sometimes it's worth the gamble. I'm in the hockey equipment business. Some of the sticks you'll find on there are knockoffs, others are actually manufacturing for some of the biggest brand names in the world and selling the sticks out the back door for more money. Great deals can be had but be careful.
  19. Thanks guys, I do keep cutters in the boat at all times. The glove isn't bulletproof but I am always very careful with unhooking. The incident I mentioned was while shore fishing for Walleye in the spring, and a walleye on the ground jumped and somehow drove the hook into my buddy's hand while thrashing. Horrible situation as the barb didn't come out and couldn't be pushed out. It was also my most productive walleye night ever, Just had 4 fish in a row over 25" within minutes of eachother. James
  20. It's amazing how cheap you can get things from china, I wouldn't rule out the quality until you see them. I recently ordered a full set of hockey jerseys for our team online and was amazed at the quality we got for 1/4 of the price.
  21. I'd like to sincerely thank you all for taking the time to respond to me with your advice. I really appreciate the help and I'm looking around for a 7'6-8' rod if anyone has one to sell. I'm hitting up Lower Buckhorn Sat-Monday this weekend. Any lake specific advice? I picked up a couple Bull Dawg lures and some super shad raps and a couple smaller buck tails so I think I'm ready to go. Looking back I think if I figure 8ed last trip I might have got a fish or two more. Once I couldn't see bottom but as I pulled my lure out I saw a large flash close to the bottom. The second one was as I was reeling in a bass I saw a big flash as well. Makes you think! I've got all the necessary release tools including the Lindy glove after having to drive a buddy to Peterborough hospital earlier this year with a hook through the finger. Thanks once again I'm hoping to have some good pictures for a report, going to be a busy weekend musky fishing all day and then walleye fishing all night. James
  22. For me nothing works as well as the rapala flat rap 10cm in perch! G ood luck.
  23. Hey guys, I've just started targeting Musky specifically recently and I have a wack load of questions, literally if anyone can help out with any info that would be most excellent! I bought my first musky rod set up and my first baitcaster. I got an Abu Garcia C4 5600 and a Bass Pro Shops Musky rod, it is 6'3 and XHEAVY I found a good deal on the combo but will probably change out the rod. I'm looking for recommendations on what rod to go for on a budget (Under $180) but with quality in mind. I fish in the Kawartha's and will mostly be using the rod for large rapala lures, and some bucktails (double 10's being the biggest.) and some smaller rubbers. I have 65 pound test fireline on right now, I assume that will be sufficient for Kawartha musky action, correct? My time is pretty much split 50/50 on casting and trolling. I see that bigger rods are the trend, so I was thinking a 7'6 MH power with a lure rating of 1-4 oz? What is the advantage of the longer rod compared to the 6'3 I have now? When I am casting out with my bait caster, if I engage the reel while the cast is still in the air to slap a spoon or to just make sure it's swimming as soon as it hits the water, will that mess with my gears? It sounded unpleasant as if I was putting stress on it. When trolling, do you have the reel engaged, or do you have the bail open with your thumb on the line? Do you crimp your barbs when Musky fishing? Are there specific scenarios when you should try an occasional figure 8? I see some do it after every cast is retrieved. I'm sure I'll have some more stupid questions later as I'm just getting used to this rod setup. Thanks for the help!
  24. This is a great write up, I'm definitely going to give this a shot, so many damn rocks in my lake though makes it stressful. I couldn't agree more about your colouring for night time I've experienced the best results with those colours at night.
