Frabil storm suit leaking
Consigliere replied to Dontcryformejanhrdina's topic in General Discussion
As others said probably needs a refresh in the wash from something. The nature of the suit. You really are paying for the breath ability with these so you don't feel like you are wearing a garbage bag. -
Charging trolling motor batteries with outboard
Consigliere replied to mike rousseau's topic in General Discussion
A switch will not do what you are hoping. At best you have all your accessories wired to your deep cycle and using the switch you could run them off your start battery - if that is your goal it will work. However I can't see how just putting a switch in will actually charge your deep cycle. The switch is intended as an isolator only. I think you are wanting an ACR. This will allow you to run the outboard and when the starter battery is fully charged the extra charge will flow over to the deep cycle. In practice I'm not sure this will actually work that well it depends on how much current your outboard actually puts out but the ACR is the only way I can see doing what you are wanting. Get the Blue Seas Add A Battery kit then you get a switch and an ACR. This way you are ever stuck you can start your outboard from the deep cycle. -
Had a good one today. Unfortunately forgot pics. Signed up for a CSA this year so have some things I'm not used to using that I made this dish from Take Swiss chard and cut the stems out and chop into slices a couple inches thick. Save the stems for pickling. Sauté them a few minutes in oil and garlic. Salt them after cooking. Before hand and they will shed too much water to cook properly. Slice some strawberries and coat in evoo and a Salt and roast at 375 until they have shed their water and the water has boiled off Grill some chicken thighs very high heat and liberally salted. Finally toss some pea shoots with evoo salt some good balsamic and a bit of lime juice if not quite acidic enough. Assemble with a bed of chard with roasted strawberries on top. Add the chicken ( I put a bit of browned butter on the chicken but totally optional) and top with the pea shoots. Was amazing balance of bitter, sweet, savoury and acid. I served it with onion and garlic risotto made From roasted chicken stock. Great in season dish.

The bacon and weave with meat and veggies in a roll is usually called a Fatty. They are usually smoked then grilled to crisp the bacon but any cooking method will work. Other than the bacon weave a Fatty is open to anything. Pounded chicken is another popular one with some veggies and cheese.

Ha. Let's ban all photos then too based on that logic. Was just a brainstorm on how to eliminate the wasted fish we all hate, not perfect but an idea. I remember again why this forum is so annoying to participate in.

In this day in age of smartphones in every pocket it would be nice to see some common sense applied. Video the catch and show the fish alive and its condition and the release showing that it will not survive and keep it. Any issues with MNR show the video. Prevents waste which I agree is the worst thing we can do as fisherman. There may be small percentage that will do unscrupulous things to get around that provision but all that effort to keep an illegal fish would at least make it tougher.

Mono is fine but you will give up some dive depth vs braid. If you plan on bumping bottom I would recommend wire. Spent a lot of time fishing bottom with lots of zebras and they will take out 130lb fluoro no problem. Wire stands up perfect.

This just in! Don't eat anything!
Consigliere replied to Acountdeleted's topic in General Discussion
Anyone that has seen the actual data on catch rates and total harvests will understand that the oceans are being raped. Not to mention illegal catches. It is a bad situation. If you think MNR is bad what do you think coastal African nations are like at enforcing regs? This is not alarmist emvironmentalism. This is legit data collection and analysis backed up by real world experience from those actually fishing. Just look at east coast cod. What has that been 20 yrs and no where near recovered. All those that think this is just Bull are flat out wrong and frankly ignorant. Not saying to stop eating fish that is a personal choice but the situation is very real. -
Use a 3 way valve for your T and you should be good. That is the best way. I'm not sure from the post but as long as the kicker doesn't need premix oil you are fine. Fuel water separator is a good idea too.

Need new starting battery... I think?
Consigliere replied to Fisherpete's topic in General Discussion
Have two to run a 200 yam 2 stoke and all electronics on pretty big boat. Wash down lI've well 2 finders etc. Had one die because of a bad wiring setup and was using the switch in the wrong position. They start big engines fine. Costco is the best for return of you kill it too and 3 yr 100% warranty no questions return is sweet. Took me 2 back and got new ones since I made some mistakes with them. They are $119. -
In fresh water and smaller bodies of water it is likely you can get away with cheap material but it is not good practice to use automotive materials on boats. Marine wire has finer strands for more durability against vibration and maintains its strength for longer. It is also tinned to prevent corrosion. Again you can probably get away with it but you also have a higher chance of a fire by using lesser materials on a boat. Personally for the big cables I will always get the right materials. There is too much current in those to mess around. With the 16-22 wire I you can cheap out and not worry too much

The length of run effects what wire gage can safely be used for the wire run. You want to look up what size will give you less than 3% voltage loss at the length of run for the current the cable will carry. I would guess need 2 gag wire for black and red. Depending how far it is it could be pretty expensive.

The best way to setup a 2 battery system is use the switch as others noted, but also add an ACR. Blue Seas has an Add-A-Battery kit that comes with a switch and ACR for around $110. The switch works as others have noted but the only problem with switch only is that only one battery really every gets charged. So what you should do is this....run the alternator, kicker charging and wire to the fuse panel off the COMMON post on a switch. Hook the two batteries to post 1 and 2 respectively and then run the ACR between the batteries. With this setup, run your switch on 1 (or 2) all the time, the alternator and kicker will constantly charge that battery, and the house will run off that battery, and the ACR will dump any excess current to the other battery to keep it topped up. If you have a battery emergency, switch to BOTH on the switch and you will get juice from both batteries to get started. The alternative to this is to run the main engine off one battery, the electronics and kicker etc off the other battery but still put in the ACR and switch for better charging and being able to start in emergencies. This is a bit less risky that you will drain a single battery down but is a bit more inconvenient to operate. It will be pretty minimal wiring change from what you have going either option.

It's a decarb mainly so can do a few things. What you are doing is for just general preventative measures. This is to clear up some rough running motors or a couple times per year. Spray it into cylinders. Soak for a bit. Run engine. Run engine spray into carbs until engine starts to big down. Let run for a while again. Repeat. The shock method using gas is mix 3 litres with a whole can and run that through the engine.

world fishing network free preview for April
Consigliere replied to netminder's topic in General Discussion
Just as an fYI almost all of the Lidner material is available free on the roku. All their shows as well as species and technique DVDs. All free. The shows I think you can stream from their site but not the DVDs. The are still selling stuff but I find provide the most insight into when where and why questions. Plus they are former Spoonpluggers so they know what makes a fish tick. -
world fishing network free preview for April

Great channel if you like to watch commercials even when the commercials aren't on. Every host on there just hocks gear the whole time. So brutal. Everything decent is available online for free now anyways. Save your time and effort this channel is pretty much garbage. -
You can get it all almost free streaming with an android box or roku. You need some tech savvy and a dedicated PC to do it. Tons of info out there. You may have to give up hd. I cut cable over a year ago and pay for NBA and NFL but am thinking next year of not paying for NFL. You can get around blackout on mlb service with unblockus service or something similar.

Longest I've seen caught on the larry came trolling a fuzzy on wire line.

Hopefully pic works this time. Salt crusted Spanish mackerel. 2.5 lbs of salt mixed with 3 egg whites to get it pasty. Fish fully covered and baked about 20min. Very juicy. Basically steams the fish with its own juice. Do the fish whole just gutted. The salt makes a hard crust that you chip off then just peel the fish skin off and pull the meat off the bones and serve. Had this with some beef heart tartar for appetizer and Mediterranean style Israeli couscous.

Echo tails and fuzzy duzzit have some big ones. They can be trolled as well.

Got an ecobee smart stat si this winter and saved me over 20% on heating. 1000 cubic meters To 800 dec-feb 2014 vs 2015. And overall I believe 2015 was on average colder. The thermostat has a wifi connection and algorithm that uses outside temp and furnace performane to optimize your home heating. Was skeptical but it works.
