Dragged my a@@ out of bed at 4 am and headed to Port Maitland to look for my missing Mojo! Hit the water by 6 and were welcomed by some serius swells from a tstorm on the soth shore. It looked like my Erie curse was on again as we lost a cannonball and could barely setup lines in the 4-5 foot swells. Eventually the swells died down and we put out our spread of 2 dipsies and 1 rigger. First fish came around 8 am in 70 feet of water 50 feet down on a dipsie and a purple worm harness. Discovered the batteries in my camera were dead, so I only have one cooler shot to offer. We went 8 for 11 with one bow , all the eyes were between 3-8 lbs, all had empty stomachs except for a large fish that had a smelt in its yap. By 12 the wind was up and we hit the ramp. All in all my best Erie result. Special thanks to Fishmaster for the heads up. Btw any suggestions on how to get my dipsies to release easier? Dragged a few fish today as they were hitting very light.

look for areas that offer a quick transition between shallow and deep. These fish are not stupid they have seen many presentations. Stealth and a drop shot presention is your best bet.

Clampit is right. Warm water will push larger pike out into the Reach. But 4-10 lb pike are still available in the bay. Try to enjoy the largemouth fishing...becoming world class!

I am starting to get to the point of desperation. After my disaster of a fishing trip to Bisco (only approx 10 eyes and 15 pike in 6 days ) and to Nipigon (tornados, floods and a medivac ). I have managed to follow it up with 3 skunks in a row on Simcoe for smallies and a complete skunk out of Port Maitland today. I have either completly lost my Mojo or am having to pay for my great season last year. How can you manage NOT to catch a smallie on Simcoe when you are fishing a football field sized reef that tops out in 10 feet of water in 2 sunrises and one sunset? Have any memebers of the board managed to hide a banana on my boat or something???? Any suggestions on how I can get my Mojo back...oh... and has anyone seen it? D

There are no fish in Nipigon I posted a report 3 weeks ago. Still have to add the pike pictures I finally recieved.

Has to be the knobs that spend 20 minutes waiting to get to the launch then once there on the launch they start getting there boat and stuff ready. If only I was pharooh!!!! Off with there heads!!!!!! my buddy once had a guy drill a hole 4 feet yes 4 feet!!! from his hole when he was catching perch, i had to hold him back from pounding him.....then again...why did I hold him back...hmmmmmmm

There are 2 launchs. One is off of Suter road and the other across from the store. be VERY careful in this lake. It has numerous schoals that come out of no where and is notoriopus for eating props. Especailly in the north end.

Wondering if any one can give me a few pointers and general areas in Couch to fish. I have a rented a cottage in the south end near Fern resort from the 22nd to the 29th of July. It's funny , I hit all the areas around there but I have never spent much time on Couch. Other then a few trips to the Limestones in the fall for smallies. I am thinking mostly largemouth but on nice days I am willing to run to Simcoe in the north end for smallies if any one wants to throw me a bone. As always spots are kept in confidence and I only catch and release. Thanks Darren

Perch, then walleyes, then pike, then whitefish!

We decided to keep count this time. I beat Chrissy 34 to 19 but he should have beat me if it wasnt for the poor hooking percentage of the grass frog. I am back up there in a week and a half looking for my elusize 8 pounder. It's in there. A buddy video'ed an 8 many years ago. And I have release them up to 5.8. Thinking I might try a day of 5-9 inch swimbaits and see what happens!

Make and model of the BBQ? My wife's specialty is BBQ's and fireplaces. I am sure she can fix it for you. D

Lake Nipigon first week of September. Buzz Taisley's charters or Nighthawk charters. Biggest specks in the world!

Well as some of you know I had 2 weeks planned out in Northern Ontario. The first week was spent at Lake Biscotasi between Sudbury and Gogama. The drive in is brutal! The fishing was VERY slow with many excuses why the fisihing was slow. Mayfly hatch...cold front...etc..... But with the help of my wonder guide Ms. Kathleen we were able to connect on enough eyes to have a good fish fry every day. She is a native of the lake and a humble great guide. The last 3 days were full of high winds from the north and rain...rain we havent seen in southern Ontario in 2 months. The Sirius radio was a god send as the Vothman and I couldnt stop laughing to the bloodhound gang and Ms Kathleen go go dancing in the back of the boat. Memories are made of these and not the amount of fish you catch!!! Here are a few pictures of our adventure. I ended up breaking a bunk on my trailer and a 200 dollar St Croix rod, but would never trade it in for the life of me! Good friends and good times is all that matters. ill add some more photos later. Week 2 was on Lake Nipigon on a charter with Captain Buzz Taisley. We spent the first 2 days cruising to the north end of the lake trying to out race the nasty tornado laced weather that eventually caught up with us. Along the way we did mange to hit a few beautiful specks such as Brians 5 pounder. The funny part was it hit a gang troll figured 8ted at the side of the boat....... I am not kidding! We did manage a night of trolling for lakers. I managed a 36 inch 22 pounder trolling a husky jerk off of a tapered point in 22 feet of water. I lost a estimated 40 lber on a Storm 9 inch swimbait that broke me off of a point dropping into 300 feet of water. Truly massive fish that I couldnt even manage to move. As we headed up the lake we hit a pike bay and I managed 65 pounds of pike in 4 casts, The first fish was a 20 pound 40 inch fish on a spinnerbait! Pics to follow as they are on Brians camera. Brian managed a 20 pound 42 inch pike on a Zara Spook at the side of the boat....awesome sight...pics to follow. Unfortunatley the rains were so heavy that they blew the pike out of the coves onto the rocks where the brookies usually inhabit. We kept a few medium sized ones for dinner. This is when disaster strikes. Derek wasnt feeling good and after 2 days was so bad we had to run south 8 hours and take him to the Nipigon hospital were he was diagnosed with pancreitis. we had to leave him there as he was transfered to Thunder Bay and returned 5 days later. Of course we couldnt let him off without a few goof photos. Here is a pic of me and Derek on a better trip! A 14 hour drive later I was back in Burlington 3 days early and tired and dissapointed but everyone was fine...and that is all that matters!! Well I am back at work saving for next year! D

The Vothman and I hit our favorite 4 lake chain of portage lakes on saturday for some bass and musky action. The fishng started off slow in the first 2 lakes until we hit the 3rd. most of my fish came on a white tandem mag spinnerbait and a PopR. Chris was being brave and fishng a swamp rat over matted vegetation with the usual fun and lack of hooking percentage. He would have beat me if it wasnt for the crappy percentage of the frog. Overall we caught 53 largemouths and No muskies....strange. Biggest fish was a 4.5 pounder 20 incher I landed on a Komanchi Wizzle Worm on a fallen tree. Overall a great day but it reminded me I am not young anymore and my back was toast the next day. Darren
