  1. This might help with the attendance, Sun News was down there last night and interviewed Keith Beasley of "Canada in the Rough" http://www.sunnewsnetwork.ca/video/3162881898001 and "Brian learns to fly fish and about great fishing retreats." http://www.sunnewsnetwork.ca/video/featured/prime-time/867432237001/train-in-fishing/3167680448001 They also talked about the fur industry and more.
  2. Well the price range can be insane, but I agree with what I have seen here. Graham would be a good one to go out with, he knows his stuff, a bit of a fly fishing snob but a nice guy and with his enthusiasm should make a good instructor. There is also the Orvis website that has videos on http://howtoflyfish.orvis.com/ If you are near Fletchers north of Owen Sound he often has used rods and reels or will make a custom one up and he has quite a few flies, but his prices are a bit high sometimes and Wilsons has a Fly Fishing shop in Fergus. http://www.canadasflyfishingoutfitter.com/ There is the boat and fishing show coming up Feb 14 -16th and they will have alot of flies for sale for cheap and some rods and reels (cheap sometimes (quality and price) and on up the price range until your credit card screams uncle, there but if you go you should have an idea what he wants to fish for. Bass = streamers, poppers, leaches and wolly buggers 5 to 7wt Pike = streamer, poppers and you will need a short wire leader 6 to 9 wt Trout = alot of options depending on location, season... 3wt wet spaghetti noodle to 9 or 10 wt etc. You can go cheap like a Crystal River Spinning/fly setup (prob. $40 at the Fishing show, easy to cart around but lacking in quality) and ok for light fishing, March Brown makes some travel rods that fit in a suit case for going south but START at $150 a rod and you will need a large arbor reel and warm water fly line.... and the list goes on. But if you want something just to give it a try then look for a used on Kijiji or the local shop (like Fletchers) where you can buy a package and with the Fishing (starts F. 14) and Sportsman show(starts this week I think) Bass Pro and Le Baron will have some sales on too. There is a cheap setup on Kijiji near Owen Sound, not pretty and you might need a new line and you will need leaders but it LOOKS like it is usable. http://owensound.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-sell-sporting-goods-exercise-fishing-camping-outdoors-Old-Shakespeare-FLY-REEL-and-8-5-ft-Mitchell-FLY-ROD-W0QQAdIdZ550255087 or a few near London http://london.kijiji.ca/f-fly-rod-Classifieds-W0QQKeywordZflyQ20rod If you go too cheap (quality) then he might not enjoy it and get frustrated, some backyard practice time will help in the casting timing, you both can watch the Orivs basic casting video and then you can stand back and offer criticism but there is no substitution for a day with a person that knows AND can teach. IF you are going to try the Fishing show I might go on the 14th or 15th, send me a message and I might have some advise on setups there or if it is worth the run if you are there at a different time. P.S. there is also some material on Sport Fishing on the Fly http://www.sfotf.ca/ and http://www.thenewflyfisher.com/ That both specialize in Canadian Fly fishing
  3. It all depends on how long you want it to last and the skills you have and the type/age of boat. You can go cheap on a tinny and replace it in 5 years or if you have a better boat and want to use it for decades more the other end of the spectrum is the 3M products. I would say stay away from exterior grade plywood unless it is a tinny and a beater and anything pressure treated is just asking for problems. If it is a wood boat or if you need to replace the foam under the floor (the foam in mine had got old enought it was more a sponge) or more complicated repairs and have a good boat then talking to several of the guys at boat repair shops and stores that sell and work on the boats is a good idea. This time of year you might even get a deal on them doing the work for you.
  4. Noah's marine (in Toronto) is where I picked up my marine plywood and everything I needed fo replace the floor of my boat and the foam under the floor. Beware when you mix the foam it expands like CRAZY and you have to work fast to get it spread correctly or you will have a mess! http://www.noahsmarine.com/ I did my floor a few years ago and I see they have some new 3M products that look like a good floor replacement too. http://www.noahsmarine.com/items.asp?Cc=33 They also ship if that is your only option.
  5. Agreed, I have had arguements with those that think human value is only if they deserve it or if it is of use to them lots of times, not worth aruging. The one guy I knew said clearly in an agruement about the values of respect and human life that only those that were of use to him were of value, reminded me of the story of Corrie Ten Boom at Ravensbruck.... then there was the guy at the company lunch (drunk every weekend and sleeping with anything in a skirt) who spent 15 minutes ranting just seeing the cross I wear..... atheists like Richard Dawkins says he doesn't think religions people deserve respect and I see that from many more and more, I can see more and more how men like Hitler, Stalin and Mao were able to impose their agendas, devalue human life and make your followers think only their "superiority" and of "the others" as somehow subhuman. Last post, Al has found peace, repentance for his past and a faith like no other, my story isn't far off, I've been insulted, ranted at and told I don't know this or that and no consideratioin or willingness to look at if from my side too many times so you are right, I hate to see people wasting their once chance before standing to give account for their lives but most will never listen. I am not even going to open this tread again, so leave with I hope more are willing to look at the evidence, Josh McDowell spent 2 years and ended up a Christian, Pascal's Wager goes that if a Christian is right the atheist looses everything, if the atheist is right the Christian looses nothing, but I argue that isn't the whole story, the Christian in a real Christian community (less and less of them) gains friends of every colour close as brothers/sisters (often closer), a peace the world cannot comprehend, a purpose to help those in need (our church helps with many projects like scholarships, food banks, clothing drives....) and a life often so changed (listen to any ex-drug user/drunk...) he ends up winning even if the athiest is right. Bye de bye... Shaloam
  6. Truly pathetic, good you are teaching her to question everying, I hope she learns some discernment and the truth someday, too bad you haven't taught her any respect and if you consider that an insulting comment.... I feel sorry for the upbringing she is getting., "Merely having an open mind is nothing; the object of opening a mind, as of opening the mouth, is to shut it again on something solid." G.K. Chesterton (ex-atheist)
  7. Online they are there over and over being as insulting as possible with closed minds and rants though, and I have had one guy go into a 15 minute rant at a company lunch just seeing the small cross I wear sometimes. I have never had any religious person (and I have discussed religion with many different religions) even the ones that show up at the door be as insulting and arrogant and intollerant of discussion as the atheists. Ask an atheist why they won't believe and they mutter something about fairy tales (ignoring the empirical), look here and we see a father above actually proud of his daughter or being rude and insulting.... years ago I might not have agreed but its seems to me that many atheists are so blindly sure of their faith Josh McDowell's comments about some of the hard core atheist is very true that they would choose Hell over God and in the end it is more a moral choice not the evidence. When some can look at the origin of the Universe that the Bible had more correct than scientists 60 years ago, that cell membranes, enzymes, proteins, and DNA can for by chance.... seems to me it takes more faith to be an atheist and they cannot stand it questioned so end up insulting and mocking rather than thinking and discussing. Now before someone goes off an their next insult, chew on this if you are willing to let any light in. "If I had no other data than the early chapters of Genesis, some of the Psalms and other passages of Scripture, I would have arrived at essentially the same picture of the origin of the universe, as is indicated by the scientific data." Nobel Prize-winning physicist Arno Penzias (Big Bang Theorist) "The principle of [divine] purpose ... stares the biologist in the face wherever he looks ... . The probability for such an event as the origin of DNA molecules to have occurred by sheer chance is just too small to be seriously considered ... ."Ernst Boris Chain - Nobel Prize in medicine
  8. There is both.... I can give more examples like Todd Burpo's son (talking about a miscarriaged sister no one had told him about etc.) and others but this one is one I remember best. Heaven and Hell: Been There, Done That - Mickey Robinson http://www.100huntley.com/video.php?id=qbZDkPLYbxc http://www.100huntley.com/video.php?id=SZ6ki9Ssh6g http://www.100huntley.com/video.php?id=sKag8kwr2uM Just listen to number 2 if you don't want to watch the whole thing is what I would recommend. P.S. Well said Mr Simon but most prefer insult to discussion sadly it seems.
  9. Very true, it takes an honest and open mind to be willing to search but at an emotional level many don't want to know. The actual reality is they are slaves to self and want to serve self only, pride is what the ex-atheist C.S. Lewis calls the worst sin as it is a sin of the heart rather than the flesh. "I did it my way" is the theme song for many today... "and not as one that kneels" being a line I remember in there, humblinlg themselves, kneeling, accepting responsibilty/repentance and the reality even with all the suffering in the world there is hope, meaning and mercy is truly a hated idea especially that part that comes with it, responsibility (blame someone/thing else is prefered). Grimace's out of context texts would be completely laughable if it wasn't for the sad fact it shows a search for excuses and mockery. It is interesting to see some of the ex-atheist Christian speakers today, Josh McDowell was an atheist and was challenged and spent two years writing the "The evidence that requires a verdict" that ended up being his book about how he became a Christian, he actually says it is a moral not an evidential decision. Lee Strobel started out writing a book attacking Christianity and ended up writing "The Case for Christ" and many more since his conversion. Even Christopher Hitchen's brother Peter grew up an atheist and with one of the most out spoken atheist brothers when he decided to search became a Christian..... like C.S. Lewis, Alister McGrath, Malcolmm Muggridge and many other ex-atheists there is a hope for them but given the viseral and emotional reactions they look for any excuse to not look at all because most really, really do not want there to be a God and especially Jesus.
  10. "He could not answer the strongest argument against it, which had been made nearly two thousand years earlier by Aristotle: If heliocentrism were true, then there would be observable parallax shifts in the stars’ positions as the earth moved in its orbit around the sun. However, given the technology of Galileo’s time, no such shifts in their positions could be observed. It would require more sensitive measuring equipment than was available in Galileo’s day to document the existence of these shifts, given the stars’ great distance. Until then, the available evidence suggested that the stars were fixed in their positions relative to the earth, and, thus, that the earth and the stars were not moving in space—only the sun, moon, and planets were." The Heliocentric theory required many more years and larger telescopes to allow for measurement of the plants motions. It wasn't until Hubble that the red shift was identifiable and this is what led to the Big Bang theory, which contravened with the constant state universe and even Einstein came out against the redshift at first until he actually sat down and reviewed it with Hubble. "If I had no other data than the early chapters of Genesis, some of the Psalms and other passages of Scripture, I would have arrived at essentially the same picture of the origin of the universe, as is indicated by the scientific data." Nobel Prize-winning physicist Arno Penzias (Big Bang Theorist)
  11. Actually Stalin and Mao alone and if you throw in Pol Pot historians have calculated that governments ran be atheist have far exceeded killing than all the religious wars etc. combined Let's look at the accuracy of that comment, Galileo had no eidence to back up his heliocentric theory (Aristotle's arguements against heliocentricity could not be disproved with instruments at that time and most scientists of the time still help to geocentricity), he challenged the church orders and offended even his supporters and his "imprisonment" include a servant and every convenience he wanted. "Galileo’s friend Nicolini, Tuscan ambassador to the Vatican, sent regular reports to the court regarding affairs in Rome. Many of his letters dealt with the ongoing controversy surrounding Galileo. Nicolini revealed the circumstances surrounding Galileo’s "imprisonment" when he reported to the Tuscan king: "The pope told me that he had shown Galileo a favor never accorded to another" (letter dated Feb. 13, 1633); " . . . he has a servant and every convenience" (letter, April 16); and "n regard to the person of Galileo, he ought to be imprisoned for some time because he disobeyed the orders of 1616,..." . "Science brings men nearer to God." - Louis Pasteur Dr Robert Kaita (Principal Research Physicist, Princeton Plasma Lab.) "One needs the Bible to understand science and science to understand the Bible" "Science can purify religion from error and superstition. Religion can purify science from idolatry and false absolutes" - Pope John Paul II "If I had no other data than the early chapters of Genesis, some of the Psalms and other passages of Scripture, I would have arrived at essentially the same picture of the origin of the universe, as is indicated by the scientific data." Nobel Prize-winning physicist Arno Penzias (Big Bang Theorist) Alister McGrath (Phd Molecular Biophysics) says that it was the sheer complexity of the cell and science that led him to eventually become a Christian. "There is no incompatibility between science and religion... Science shows that God exists." - Prof. D. Barton, Nobel Prize Chemistry Seems to be alot of missrepesentation of reality on here sometimes, some should examine their statements for validity, they either don't know out of ignorance or just don't want to know. The ex-athiest Lee Strobel in an interview in the book "The Case for the Real Jesus" quoted Prof. Daniel B. Wallace (wrote the textbook on ancient Greek & Greek translation) saying "It's disturbing that when it comes to the Christian faith, people don't really want, or know how, to investigate the evidence" and it really seems to be true that many don't want to know. "Truth eludes us if we do not pursue it with constant attention." - Alexander Solzhenitsyn "Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened." - Winston Churchill
  12. Good for him, so are many scientists questioning the standard evolutionary theory, Stephen Gould talks about sporadic bursts of evolution rather than the standard model and to go further for that matter, even Richard Dawkins in his book call the blind watchmaker on the first page says that there is the appearance of design in the cells. Science was built on questioning but for so many to question one of the legs so many unquestioningly stand on obviously has a very emotional response, to question their faith in it is not allowed and Linder is right there is no tolerance of a Biblical world view and on and on those intolerant of it will rant unquestioningly without actually being willing to investigate what is true. Sadly most of them probably still think the Haekle embryo images (admitted fraud before 1900, in science text for decades and listed in Science mag. as one of the top 10 frauds along with Nebraska man etc.) were real and haven't learned more than they knew in grade 9, but for those interested in looking I like the book "Dawkins' GOD: Genes, Memes, and the Meaning of Life" but the science is probably above most who "trust" in science, it is written by Alister McGrath (Phd Molecluar Biophysics), in the review of the book by Francis Collins, Director of the Human Genome Project he said: "Wielding evolutionary arguments and carefully chosen metaphors like sharp swords, Richard Dawkins has emerged over three decades as this generation's most aggressive promoter of atheism. In his view, science, and science alone, provides the only rock worth standing on. In this remarkable book, Alister McGrath challenges Dawkins on the very ground he holds most sacred - rational argument - and McGrath disarms the master. It becomes readily apparent that Dawkins has aimed his attack at a naive version of faith that most serious believers would not recognize. After reading this carefully constructed and eloquently written book, Dawkins' choice of atheism emerges as the most irrational of the available choices about God's existence." Universe popping into existence, cell membranes with DNA and protein synthesis all by chance..... all in the realities of entropic principals, instability of complex molecules etc......seems to be more of a moral choice to reject God and takes alot more faith it seems to be an atheist. "The principle of [divine] purpose ... stares the biologist in the face wherever he looks ... . The probability for such an event as the origin of DNA molecules to have occurred by sheer chance is just too small to be seriously considered ... ."Ernst Boris Chain - Nobel Prize in medicine
  13. Just finished some pancakes and enjoying some nice music, one of my favourites this time of year. http://www.godtube.com/watch/?v=M9F2FNNU
  14. Merry Christmas is what I say this time of year, safe travels and it be a safe holidays and lots of tight lines in 2014
  15. Why do I waste my time here... Huffington is quoting Nature and Patient 0 was tied to NY and I believe LA groups early in the epidemic by the American Medical... Time to do something good why waste my time here.
  16. No... it originated in Africa through the eating of chimps, probably in the butchering, the original person that brought it to the west and launched the rapid spread was traced back to a gay man from Quebec that frequented gay bars and bath houses and I believe was refered to as patient 0 (zero). http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/10/01/scientists-trace-the-orig_n_131056.html Wikipedia.... who would bother with it except maybe as a list of real sources for a start, knowlege by commitee seldom has much truth left. There were many myths and still are many about the disease, they have tracked it back atleast 70 years but the end result is that the patient zero is recorded as having slept with over 1,000 men (many after he knew about the infection) and from that point is spread among the homosexual population and then continued to spread through bi-sexual and heterosexual sex, prostitution increased the spread rapidly in Africa and Asia. So what where her conclusions that differ from mine? Come now... you can't honestly believe the universe popped out of nothing and that enzymes, proteins, DNA, cell membranes can for by chance, even the die hard hate-thiest like Richard Dawkins talks about Pan-spermia now and even Christopher Hitchen's brother became a Christian after he decided to open his mind. If you actually do and are capable of understanding more than basic science my I suggest John Polkinhorne (Prof. of theoretical Physics) and Alister McGrath (PHd Molecular Bio-Physics) if not then Josh McDowell is probably a better book he keeps it at a simpler level.
  17. Kinsey also apparently did not distinguish between behaviour and preference, the figure he came up with as lifelong was 4% and I understand there was also an issue with the population of his study. It has been years and I forget the details but especially in that time if you look at areas like San Francisco and the cities with gay bath house districts you would see higher percentages. Those bath house districts are the same ones that HIV was eventually traced back to and from there its eventual spread.
  18. Go down and turn it up... if it comes on you are good, all water heaters are vented otherwise you would be putting CO2 and CO into our house. Direct Energy.... ... they were at my house ONCE... never again, their prices are horrendous and the work they do... I have nothing nice to say and well my neighbour threw them out when they were working on his furnace a couple years ago.
  19. They have done many studies and even had the census question and according to Stats Can. The Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS), Cycle 2.1, was the first Statistics Canada survey to include a question on sexual orientation. 1.1% — The percentage of Canadians aged 18 to 59 who reported in 2009 that they consider themselves to be homosexual (gay or lesbian). 0.9% — The percentage of Canadians aged 18 to 59 who reported in 2009 that they consider themselves to be bisexual. The 10% is a fictional number usually put out by those ignorant of sexuality studies or with an agenda I find.
  20. No, you could have looked yourself.... mosquito Member Since 30 Sep 2013 Not very original, try reading my previous post.
  21. But if they ignore him, mock him and dismiss him it saves them from looking at the changes in his life, his viewpoints and his faith No, I prefer personal quiet discussions where I can argue science, history and theology, most just want to shut down the conversation or change the conversation. They do tend to run when you start a serious discussion. Then you aren't "radical left wing", he probably knew but he also asked a direct question and wouldn't deny his beliefs. Creating a company worth millions... he is definitely an intelligent man but he is also aware of the implication of his declaration of faith and what it means and stood behind them. Because of your assumption it is Bull and the misrepresentations we see, when someone is deliberately misrepresenting the truth then it is better to tell them the truth than remain silent. To paraphrase the words of the ex-atheist Josh McDowell it isn't the evidence it is that they don't want to know and make a moral choice. Josh McDowell started writing a book as an atheist about the evidence and by the end of writing had become a Christian.
  22. Well they are and so is everyone, hence the need for forgiveness and salvation... yet you use the name frodo... a character from an ex-athiests writings that include "Mere Christianity". There seems to have been some influence, I hope you decide to search for where truth is at. There are also ex-athiest writers like Alister McGrath and Josh McDowell you might consider, the narrow path is there for all ... but sadly like you most want nothing to do with it because of the implications on their life. It is interesting how much people want to rant and rave but then shut down a discussion on freedom speach and viewpoints of what is right and wrong with insults and mocking and calling names seems they can't show the same respect that the man they are talking about.
  23. So you think homosexuals, beastiality and terrorists aren't sinners...he also include those sleeping around, drunks etc but the media doesn't like that part, it doesn't gather as much indignation. what he considered sin is the question he was asked . Ah Catholic... no wonder the hostility, I hope you find true Christianity someday is all I will say on that..... He also "pissed" on those sleeping around and other but the media doesn't care about that. So many seem to be excited about the opprtunity of pissing on his viewpoint and rather intollerent as compared to his views on life "in adherence to his Christian faith while pointing out that he “would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me.” ...“I myself am a product of the ’60s” who indulged in sex and drugs until hitting bottom and accepting Jesus as his saviour, he said in a statement. Although his mission is to teach people that men and women are meant to be together, Robertson said he “would never treat anyone with disrespect” because they are different. Sadly so many show his views and beliefs no respect it seems so they can dismiss what he has done with his life. Seems to me he spoke truth though but then those slandering him don't like the full truth...... GQ said he then paraphrases a biblical reference: “Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers — they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.” Interesting statement I just read on the National Post. The Robertson family, meanwhile, has released a statement responding to the controversy, in which the Duck Dynasty stars thank fans for their “prayers and support,” and reiterates that Phil Robertson’s “beliefs are grounded in the teachings of the Bible.” “Phil is a Godly man who follows what the Bible says are the greatest commandments: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart’ and “Love your neighbor as yourself,’ ” the statement reads. “Phil would never incite or encourage hate. We are disappointed that Phil has been placed on hiatus for expressing his faith, which is his constitutionally protected right.” “We are in discussions with A&E to see what that means for the future of Duck Dynasty,” the family continues. “Again, thank you for your continued support of our family.” I think I will add a DD "Happy Happy Happy" shirt to my wish list.
  24. Welcome to 2013 where freedom of speach is allowed only after review by Human Rights commisions declare it isn't going to offend anyone and anything resembling truth isn't allowed and tolerance is a one way street only allowed if it is approved by the lefts standard of behaviour. He has the rights to say it and A&E has the right to do what they did. You seem very ready to declare youd judgement of him and his views with so little evidence, have you read all of what he said? If not then you have a very narrow minded judmental (but based on what standard?) attitude and even though you use Christ in your post there is a definite suggestion of either an ignorance or a phobia of Christianity. As for narrow minded.... yep the narrow path where true grace is found is the one he seems to be on... while so much of the world is on the wide easy path that leads to judgment and destruction and that is the message they hate most. The adulterer, the thief, the murderer... they all don't like the judment too and are include (excluded from the media usually) if you knew anything about the rest of the passage.
  25. How about these....http://www.furcanada.com/seal-skin.html you didn't say how much and they are made in Canada too. More than I want to pay, I got a nice pair at the Mall but forget the store, they were Graouton? and are made in Canada and have lasted a couple years.
