    Grizzlies are just misunderstood!!!

There are some really fine bears on both sides!!! :tease: :tease: :tease: :tease:

I've had many run in's with grizzlies over the years and have yet to be eaten.

Not that the next one might eat me though.

in 2009 I came face to face with a 1,000# sow at a distance of 3 yards!!! She didn't eat me. :D

Now Polar Bears, you gotta watch out fer them buggers!!!!

They WANT to Eat YOU!!!! :w00t: :w00t: :w00t:

Polar bears have to eat you it is a short season and every calorie counts.

  2. I just bought a 5L F150 and shook my head when they told me it's rated to tow up to 10,300lbs

In my opinion a 1/2 ton truck shouldn't be towing anymore than 5500lbs not because the motor/tranny can't handle it but breaking and stability of towing a heavy load

saying all this my tournament partner has the 3.5 eco boost and I have the 5L even though Ford says the eco boost is better for towing both of us agree my truck does a better job and also gets better fuel economy while towing both his and my boats around

    Dan

If you are towing heavy loads a f150 set up with the tow package as well as a sway control bar and trailer brakes is more than up to the job. Hands down the 5.0 gets better gas mileage however the turbo series is boosting the truck at 14 psi will yield 3.5 plus 1.75 for a displacement of 5.25 in theory a 10 % loss is expected so it is roughly a 5.0 under boost. both are up to the job and with further tuning the 3.5 turbo in the raptor is rated at 450 H.p and 510 FT lb of torque. There is lots of room left in the turbo series using tuning and a few mechanical tweeks. One of the thing people forget is displacement at atmospheric pressure is easily overridden by increasing the inlet pressure and increasing fuel rate at the same time. With the computers now a days mapping the spark, fuel and o2 is easily done. The second benefit of a smaller cubic inch motor is it can spool up quicker because it has less friction and mass to accelerate. Turbo lag which is minimal due to the space age materials we use and advances in design are not the same concern as yesteryear.

  3. You're getting 16 mpg combined with an Eco boost ???

.yes 14.7 liters per 100KM I have the full tow package 3.5 liter twin turbo 4x4 with the 3.72 gear set. It does not get good gas mileage but I use it to tow most of the time. The computer has for the most part learned heavy loads so it is leaning towards torque rather than economy. I do not under tow either motor or brake wise it is just to dangerous and it can get you killed.

  4. I bought a diawa tatium reel making sure it was a current version and it was correct and new in box saving $40.00 US. i also bought a few lures and hooks but found them to be poorly made and the hooks cheap. If it is a brand name product your o.k. The penalty for making a mistake and trying to return it is a pain in the butt for sure.

  5. Fishing habits dictate what equiptment you are comfortable fishing with. A quality rod and reel when you are casting all day makes sense. I have a collection of Spiel rods that were made differently than most rods. I wanted a 14 inch butt with a 1.25 inch cork that was ultra light and balanced with a 100 series reels. The guides had to be braid proof and the spine needed to be 100 % correct. For the time Spiel put in to each rod the price was a bargain and I treasure each one of them. I could not see putting a reel on that was less in performance and destroy the balance of this work of art. When I fish I have 4-6 rods rigged up with different baits and rarely have to cut off and retie during the day.Is the cost worth it for me the answer is yes since I did not take money from any other part of my life to buy them. If you haven't found a rod and reel combo that is effortless to use and feels like an extension of your hand then you will think that 800-1000 for a combo is to much. To date everyone who has used my equiptment have loved the feel of them and if it is in their budget have upgraded. Quality equiptment is something that until you know what your missing you will not miss it.

  6. Not that it seems to be a consideration but I picked up a 2017 TITAN, non diesel non XD, about a month back. Would've also gone with a Tundra had the dealership had any interest in selling me one. My MPG is horrible compared to the numbers I'm seeing posted here, I'm averaging 17.2 litres per 100 km over the first 3000km on the odometer. Mostly city, some highway and some towing. Hope to see an improvement as the engine breaks in maybe. Otherwise seems decent. Big and reasonably powerful although somehow preferred the throttle response on my old tundra. Haven't managed to run against a hemi yet, imagine it would be pretty comparable off the line. I think I would've been just as happy with a full size 4x4 from any of the other manufacturers though.

Sorry to say the Titan is a gas sucking pig. Fun to drive and well built but the mileage has been an issue in my 2005 and my buddies 2012. Keep your foot out of it and it will shift for economy after it realises you are not an aggressive driver. Keep on top of recalls and they stick to there warranty schedule way tighter than Ford does. I had a rear seal blow at 36,800 and they denied the claim. Even though they had a bulletin on it.

    you dont say???!!!! :tease::tease:

i was asking about imperial vs US gallons...see how stupid that system is...not only do 128 ounces make a gallon...we have two types of gallons? whatever idiot came up with this garbage needs to be shot.

How about 1000 mililiters is a litre, 1000 litres of water is a cubic meter of water, a cubic meter of water weighs one ton...H20 freezes at 0 and boils at 100...nah...this is all too confusing lolllll :blahblah1::blahblah1:

That's just the tip of the iceberg now we get into fractions when measuring .... so add 1 3/4 and 1 15/16 th of an inch and divide by two for center point. If metric did not sound so dramatic thematically we might have switch to it but the people Down South here do not want to say it is 0 degrees in any measurement style. I use the metric system for measurements but fahrenheit and mpg still are better understood down here.

  8. im sorry but seriously, how in the heck can you guys claim to be getting an average 8.x litres or even 7.something litres per 100 in a v8 half ton...i call Bull

you may be hitting those for a second? but lets talk long term averages mixing city and highway.

Something doesn't add up here? You cant even get 7L/100 in a friggin naturally aspirated 4 banger sedan..you think you can pull that off in a truck?

you can make all the claims about efficiency you want but science is science and something is fishy lol

For the sake of the fact that we are indeed canadian, can we agree to speak in Litres per 100k. the metric system is nice like that. Not to mention, are we talking US gallons or imperial...like forget that garbage...lets talk in a language that actually makes sense...AKA canadian english.

We tried metric for 2 weeks but it was to hard for us to figure out so we gave up..lol I know that we are never quoting imperial gallons. I did google it and made the conversion because it was to much math for me.

  9. I haven't owned a Dodge since 2001 and it had the worst drivetrain of the big 5. I hope they have improved. I rechecked into Dodge Ram promaster in 2015 as well as Chevy, Nissan and Ford. The Dodge Ram was using a front wheel drive and a new motor from Fiat. The sheet metal work and fit and finish was substandard compared to the other 3 but it was on par with the price they cost. I test drove it and at 65 mph the sides flexed and made noise as well as the wind noise made it unpleasant to drive. The Nissan had a sold build but the fuel mileage was horrible. That said a fellow tradesman ran his for 150,000miles with only maintenance and a rear axle replacement. I decided on the Ford full size 250 Transit with a ecoboost gas engine. At 45000 miles it has had no repairs only maintenance and averages 14.7 per 100 kilometers combined with a full load of tools and material. The difference between them price wise was around 10,000.oo dollars that I am glad I spent because of the way it was built and the way Ford supports it. This is the second eco boost that I have 2012 f150 is doing well and so far I am still pleased with it. Not trying to talk you into a Ford just giving you feed back from another brand that is out there.

  10. Dan the answer to your water is Carbon. It will filter and neutralize the ammonia and other by products. Bulk Carbon( 40 to 60 mesh) can be bought from plumbing supply houses cheaper than anywhere else and 50 lbs will be around $ 110.00 bucks. You will need around 1 lb per excursion. Pre rinse the carbon and put it in a pair of pantyhose with a knot and drop in the water. Temperature is the critical thing the cooler they are the slower they process food and oxygen.

  11. The cost of insurance down here must be a lot cheaper. I have all of my insurance thru the same company and it cost only $75 dollars a year for each of the 4 bikes I own. They are limited use vehicles meaning I ride them less than 7500 miles a year. So check around and see if raising the deductible to $1000.oo or limit the mileage or time of year you can ride. If you can find an old rebel it will be a great bike to learn on. A Yamaha Maxium 650 would be a nice second bike being easy to balance and cut low enough to put your feet on the ground. Both of them are inexpensive and well supported still.

  12. So, I've always wanted one and now that my inlaws have a cottage in a small lake paradise I decided to start looking. I got a call from my wife saying that there was a big sale at Sail so I drove over to Sail in cambridge and saw one that I was looking at $200 off.

So I now have a Pelican Maverick 120. A nice 12'. I was told because of my size and because I'll be fishing from it, a 12' was necessary so I have a more stable base.

Can wait to take it out!

    I only wear a size 10 Kayak.......just saying..lol

Enjoy the boat I have a 10ft fishing kayak that is a joy to hop in for a quick blast on one of the many farm ponds.

  13. I have rode and built motorcycles since 1978 . I have been on bikes as small as 350 up to 1200 cc from cruisers to full blown race bikes. I have gone down on a bike twice and walked away from them with no broken bones but lots of aches and pains. That all said the first bike needs to be small enough for you to be able to manhandle it such as a 350 or 400 in an cruiser style very basic and under powered for attempting 2 people rides. After you get comfortable and master the bike then you might feel like getting a 650 or greater and be able to ride 2 people. Personally I do not ride 2 up because if they get hurt or killed it would make me feel like I was the reason for this. I will say the ability to ride a bike has no bearing on riding a motorcycle because of the weight difference, acceleration and braking do not cross over. If you do decide that you want to get a motorcycle you might want to find an old dirt bike and trail ride it to see if you have the low speed balance and coordination before going on the road. You can always trade or sell it if you do decide to get a road bike.

  14. Open carry just seems weird to me.. Our north American society should be safe enough that you shouldn't feel you have to carry a gun to protect yourself.. As the old saying goes "just because you can doesn't mean you should"..

Sadly when pandora's box was opened and allowed handguns for everyone it did not specify that only the good people would have them. I find it creates an environment that is now balanced when after a background check and a safety course a person can own and carry a pistol. Few people will walk up to a 230lb muscular guy wearing a shirt that says " I am drunk and like to fight" it is a visible deterrent to someone that was going to mess with him for his own pleasure, open carry does the same thing. Even more effective is not knowing IF the 150lb guy is a worse target than the big guy because he is concealed carry which makes him a 250lb guy instantly. I have found that if the belief the worst thing that can happen is a fist fight which is Not life threatening you will enter into it a lot quicker than if you have the chance of it becoming life and death. Kind of like high school and a bar fight in your local badass dive.

    EXACTLY!!!!

I have a couple of buddies that shoot long range competitions down in the states and they ring the bell out to 1,200 yards with them.

I have a few friends that have some beautiful works of art in the 50 caliber range. The large bullet is needed in that range to give it a flat trajectory that wind has a less effect on deviation. The charge behind it is brutal and if not held correctly or set up poorly will bruise you and feel like a mule kicked you in the shoulder. The realisation that at that range the difference on a hit and miss is less than a 1/4 inch of your chest rising and falling makes hitting the gong that much more reason to be proud of your success. The down side is it is 5-7 bucks every time you pull the trigger.
