  1. I am a high school teacher in Port Colborne. It is sung every morning, it would be strange not to hear it in the morning. Students are encouraged to sing it in class or volunteer to sing it over the PA system. What kind of school board would remove the singing of the National Anthem to its student body?? Regardless of your race, opinion of our country, or background, we all live in Canada. Show some respect for the place that is giving you the opportunity to pursue your life in peace and security.
  2. No problem, I was on it just a few minutes ago.
  3. Thanks guys, I'm headed to my local tackle shop to get a bit more advice, I'll let you know one way or another what I do.
  4. Hi all, I am respooling two spinning reels. I am looking for something that would be all purpose, whether casting or perhaps trolling. I would be using it for multispecies fishing, many different presentations etc... Something in the 8-12 lb test range. What would be your best advice. I have always stuck to mono, but I am not happy with the line memory of regular mono line. What would be my best option?? I am mostly a weekend fisher, get out with the kids close to home, a few trips up north, nothing out of the ordinary. Thanks
  5. Hi everyone, I have booked annual family vacation on this lake I try to be an avid fisherman, but more often than not this will be my only trip to cottage country this year. I was wondering if anyone on the board is familiar with the lake. What can I expect at this time of year? I am sure the lake has Walleye (slot size), bass, pike, perch. Specific locations, techniques on the lake would be awesome. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Mario
  6. I'm a Dallas Stars fan and I cant stand him. He's a turd.
  7. I had a chance to fish with a good friend today. We launched from Port Maitland this morning at 7 am. Since i am not that familiar (newbie) concerning Lake Erie, I decided to take the suggestions of owner of the boat and go to spot that had been productive before. We headed out from Port and went out to a location near or around the "Gas Wells", probably familiar to some of you (White posts floating out several; miles from shore). I'll try to do my best with the details. 80 FOW, 35-50FT down, 2 riggers, 175', and 200' back from ball. Worm harnesses, double bladed, copper color and rainbow pattern. 2 rods, lead core, out to an approximate depth of 32-37'. Today the wind was out of the west, some swells, 2-4 ft deep. I am usually very good on boats, but today got real "sea sick", lasted four hours on chips and water. Didn't get a single bite, nothing, nada, zip, zilch. Did I do something wrong??? I would appreciate feedback. I know that everyone gets skunked sooner or later, but I just want to make sure that I didn't make a rookie mistake, and could have saved a good day. Just some pics of the water and weather conditions
  8. After reading that article, I have to wonder what they are going to do with all that fish. If it truly is contaminated, then its not fit for human consumption. It can't be used as trout feed, since we will just pass it back into the food chain. I wouldn't want it in fertilizers since its now conaminating the soil. I cant see using it to power vehicles, PCB's are strong carcinogens. Remove the PCB's, and make it into fuel does sound insteresting, but would hate to live downwind from that plant.
  9. Wow, lucky to be alive that's for sure.
  10. Just came back from Cecebe, which is just a lock away through the Magnetawan. We only caught small pickerel (1-2 lb range) frypan size. We spent a lot of time back trolling with worm harnesses until we caught scattered fish. Used lindy rigs with no snag weights. Got my best advice from ccmt here on this board. We had our best success looking for water about 20-30 feet deep, near islands, jigging with minnows just off submerged weeds. The summer bite is tough, only got about 7 fish the whole week. Good luck, I'm sure with equipment to get down you should have better luck.
  11. The last time I had been to Cecebe was when I was a little kid, about 25 years ago. Full circle now, as I take my kids to the same lake where my mom and dad took me and my brother. A lot has changed, but the memories remain. The trip took place from August 9th to the 16th. Saturday - We arrived at about 6pm, after about a dozen stops along the way to the flea market on the 400, to the busiest McDonalds in Ontario along Hwy 11. We finally arrived to downpours for most of the evening, so the evening was spend practicing our Rock Band. These are my BIL's and my three kids. Sunday - after a leisurely breakfast we decided to do a little fishing right off the dock. My son Matthew with one of dozens of small sunfish and the occasional perch off the dock. Off the pontoon boat with Julia, already a seasoned angler, who loves to fish. Everyone went in and I decided to make a few last casts when I hooked into a pretty good sized smallie. I started yelling that I had a good one on. I was using a new rod I had purchased for Matthew (ML action 6lb test) from Bass pro. Fish went under the boat, slapped the pontoons, cut the line and on top of that broke the first eyelet off a brand new rod. Bass Pro replaced the rod after a few questions. Monday - Fishing was difficult, just getting the hang of the islands, deeper water and working the bays for fish with in line spinners, white spinnerbaits, white jigs, but nothing, nada, zip for a whole days fishing. I got one follow in a channel on an in line buzz bait, but the first day yielded no fish. It doesn't help that we were fishing from a pontoon boat, but the fishing boat wasn't available yet. That evening we had great weather, and we did the campfire thing. Kids making smores with my wife. Tuesday - Decided to play the south end of the lake, again trying bait rigs, spinners, jigs. My BIL Joe gets this one lonely bass on a white jig. Fish hits on about 6 feet of water just as the jig hits bottom. Realy big weedy bay, hard to fish, but we got follow, and rises on buzzbaits, but Joe gets the only one destined for the fry pan. Go out again just an hour before dusk. I decide to try to a spot recommended by KWMike. Two small islands, brush in water, just beside some channel markers. Fisrt cast get a small pike, but hooked deep in the throat (using live bait) on jig. Its a keeper unfortunately. Ths kids get a kick out of it. My youngest Andrew just a little bit leery about posing with it. Wednesday - no fishing, mainly hung out at the cottage, tubing, swimming, sleeping in the shade, rides on the pontoon boat.Couldn't go fast enough for Julia. Thursday - We finally get a fishing boat for a few days, we manage to get the fish finder to work, and head out trolling worm harnesses around islands. We mark fish in about 20 feet of water near bottom. I lost anouther smallie (common theme) when my rig passes around a bend in the island, and the knot on the snap swivel comes undone. My BIL Joe gets two fish real fast just around the bend of this one island (pickerel) sorry no pics. We boat and take a few more. Then the pickerel stop biting and we get into a huge mess of brown bullheads. Must have caught 30 of them in 30 min. Get the wives and return back to catfish island. Here is my SIL Anna. Sorry pics on BIL's camera, will post later if I can. Friday - Head out in the later evening to the same spot that we catch the pike at. Get two decent pickerel (no pics), lost another smallie at the boat (cut line when it wraps around the outboard). I just cant seem to boat that last fish. With that note we go back to the cottage for a huge farewell barbecue and we are gone by 10 am the next day. Hope that you enjoy the report. Thanks to all the guys that helped me out with infor and maps and other resources, much appreciated. Hey KWMike, appreciate the help, sorry could not meet you at the dock.
  12. Yeah same storm rolled through St. Catharines, lots of rain, and wind. Sorry tp hear that your place is damaged. It's still thundering and raining here as I type. Unusual weather to say the least. Canceled my ball hockey game too. Work for the weather office solopaddler?? I'm off the Martindale road exit. Best of luck with the insurance claims.
  13. WOW guys, thanks to all who responded, especially solopaddler and McQ!! What a incredible wealth of knowledge. I have some reading to do that is for sure. Who knew that a simple request would turn into something that all of us on the board could use. No wonder I love this place. I am sure to try this next week on my trip. Hopefully I can catch fish and make use of all of this in a constructive manner. I will create a report when I get back and let everyone know how I did. Thanks Again.....
  14. Hi everyone, good fishing. I am going up to Huntsville area next week/Magnetawan area. I want to use worm harnesses to target walleye. I have only watched others uise them, so I dont really know how to myself. I bought a few from a local tackle place. How do I rig them, how do I ensure that it gets down to the appropriate depth. If the fish are say very near bottom, how do I present the bait in such a way that the fish see it, and I dont end up constantly snagged on the bottom. Thanks for your advice.
  15. I know how you feel. I was told that my mother who is only 55 was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer in September. I have not been the same person since. My first few days all I did was cry when I got home and cried when I was on my way to work. It has been a devastating time for my family, and especially my father, who had big plans for them both as they were preparing to retire early. I will pray for you and hope that your 50% chance turns into one of the future success stories. My mom has been through chemo, and the only advice I can give you is to be prepared for some pretty rough days. Make sure that you are there to support him, but take care of yourself. I am still struggling with the whole thing 8 months later, and my health has not been the same since she was diagnosed. Never give up hope, medical miracles happen all the time. I know 50% doesn't sound like the greatest odds, but its something to be thankful for. My mom's prognoss is between 2-5% survival 5 years max. Take Care and God Bless You and your family. I know that we don't formally know each other, but feel free to talk with me any time.
  16. Thanks everyone who replied to offer help. We booked a private cottage on Cecebe yesterday. Looking forward to the fishing!! Now I have my homework cut out for me.
  17. I apologise to all those who have replied to my last two posts. Our Cottage selections are finally coming down to three properties. Any people been on these bodies of water. I would apprecaite any assistance I cen get. I am looking for somewhere safe for kids (sandy shoreline), good fishing, and ease of renting a boat perhaps. This is our one week we do every year, and I just want to make sure that the kids get a good week, and i get some reasonable fishing as well. Much Appreciated once again. Lakeshore
  18. Home made prosciutto, or capicola. Cheese and some soft italian bread.
  19. I am almost 100% sure that we will be renting a cottage on Cecebe in August. I have not been up there since I was 10, about close to 30 years ago. I remember pike and walleye, smallmouths. How is the fishing up there??? I will have the opportunity to move about, so how is Ahmic lake?? I may also trek out to Sand Lake and Beaver Lake as well if time permits. Any advice, help would be greatly appreciated!! Lakeshore
  20. Seeing my doctor on Monday, have had a nagging cough for over 4 weeks now, slightly sore throat. Headaches on an off. This thing went through all three of my kids like wildfire. My 4 year old looks like a little skeleton all the weight he lost. Hopefully this thing is done once the weather warms up and we get outdoors a bit more.
  21. Awesome. Correct me if I am wrong, but those look a lot like Brown Trout, or are they something completely different.
  22. I really liked the original recipe Club House fish mix, but it seems like I can not find it any more on the store shelves. I dont mind the cajun one from CH, and I am not much for the beer batter recipe or the english version. I just may have to try the Chronzy's mix.
  23. Me and my family usually vacation at least once a week at a cottage, do some fishing, kids swim, campfire all the regular cottage things. We usually rent in the Haliburton/Muskoka region, but this year it seems like we missed the boat on a few places. We have an opportunity to rent on Chemong, Smith-Ennismore-Lakefield, very nice property. I have never been to this end of the province to vacation. I am a novice fisherperson, and so is my family, what can we expect as far as fishing opportunities?? I do get a small aluminum boat and motor. My kids have always loved swimming in the lake. Is Chemong kid safe, I notice that many of the pics show the lake is fairly weedy eutrophic and doesnt look like the clear northern lakes we usually go to. I am concerned that there will be nowhere for them to play in the water and enjoy water activities. I have to make a decision fairly soon, any help or advice is greatly appreciated. I have asked some questions to the direct owner, but answers are somewhen unclear.
  24. I may be renting a cottage property on this lake, but I have never heard of it or if it has any fishing opportunities. It is in the muskoka and Haliburton area, near lake of bays. Does anyone have any information about this lake, anything at all would help. Lakeshore
