  1. To sum it up:

The "show" buys the air time, usually 13 - 1/2hr spots.

The "show" sells the commercial time to aka. sponsors.

Included in commercial time is other perks for the "sponsors" i.e. trade shows, truck wrapping, web presence etc...

In show "sponsors" i.e. Frabil pays for segments during the show, "The Frabil tip of the day" etc...

Other equipment, usually fishing related, "sponsors" pay for thier use of product during the show with some other perks.

It is very difficult every year to hunt and maintain these "sponsors". Sometimes you have to do what you have to do to keep things afloat i.e. push product.

There is a fine line between "infomercial" and giving the "sponsors" what they pay for.

It would be nice if a network would pick up fishing shows, own them (pay to air the show) and insert their own commercials. Until that happens, putitng up with alittle flogging of product is worth having some fishing on the tube while your at home on a Sunday morning. IMO

  2. Seeing that bugger in my back yard would have my hackles up a bit. Grab a pack of M80 firecrackers, take a shot with the rifle then run around the yard throwing the firecrackers with the young'ns for the neighbours ;):)

There is a pack that hangs out in the Darlington OPG fields that can be seen almost every morning, about 6 of them. Used to see alot of deer too, but don't see them as often anymore.

  3. Can be fun to watch a guy try and land a fish with a 15ft lead(myself included). Especially when they have little or no room to move.

As for the float stop, try using a piece of spinnerbait rubber skirt, one or two grannies and it will usually fit through the tip eyes on float rods.

  4. Ministers are here and gone in 4 yrs managers in the ivory tower are here for decades....its those very same managers that need to take the dress off and man up and do the right thing

    I'm an email away! ;)

Alot of good is done, but the balance that is not, is shameful considering we have this amazing resource that without proper due dilligence could/is being taken advantage of.

  5. Shouldn't the motivation come from actually caring about the fish and wildlife and not a big pay check?

    I agree 100%.

This should absolutely be a no "incentive" program for a CO. Except for seasoned officers to get help with their huge work load.

I just thought if you hired more CO's, covered their pays/costs through a "pot" directly funded by enforcement, they may cover themselves and therefore create a higher CO compliment.

  6. If your ice fishing outside of a hut, try to keep the as much fish in the water as possible. Unhook and push back down the hole.

I am sure anglers are going to cringe to see a few giant walleye hoisted up for pictures through the ice this season on the kawarthas. I've seen it on Scugog with Musky quite often.

  7. I have not run across anyone getting them with any consistant success during the day in Scugog.

    :D

Jer, try the old river channels, inside/outdside turns, humps in the middle of the bed.

Make sure you have a gas powered auger or a 4inch manual. Drill tons of hole and cover alot of water. Anyone on this board who has panfished with me knows how many holes I drill ;)

I think I know the area you are talking about Jer on Buckhorn, I would start there aswell, if the ice allows.

    Good Luck.

  8. I want to thank the CO's we have for the work that they do.

    So do I Michael!

Some solid points and great opinions all!

I see where some think funding themselves with fines might be a slippery slope, but if you are not actively participating in illegal activities what would you be worried about.

  9. I don't think so Phil... based a 250 day work year, in order to "pay" for themselves. they would have to write approx. $700.00 worth of fines per working day.

They may reach that on a weekend, especially in the winter where anglers are pretty much bunched up in a few places, but even then, it's very rare to see one C.O.. I've seen them mostly in pairs, which puts their team into the $350,000.00 per anum range.

Plus, based on fines levied on site and by the courts, it seems to me that there just isn't enough money moving to cover their costs.

    HH

    Good points.

It is easy to look from the outside in, but wouldn't you think if all revenue generated including property(including vehicles, atv's etc.) sold by auctions plus fines would be enough if put in one pot to fund only CO's.

  10. Seems alot of anglers/hunters believe there is a lack of CO's in Ontario.

I was just finishing up a salary cost planning project here at work and it got me thinking.

The cost for a CO, I am guessing, is say approx. $175,000 a year.

i.e. Salary, benefits, pension, equipment/gear/unform/truck, vacation/sick time cover off, staff support etc..

Wondering if a CO could "support" their own position through fines, confiscating property etc..

Just thinking more CO's = more revenue = more service

Just throwing this out there, would you assume a CO generates more then $175,000 annually through enforcement?
