  1. I don't know why it took them so long to get started, there's obviously a tonne of people wanting to help, they should have been doing this since August when the first big runs came in!

they have been, just 2 seasons of manually lifting fish is a pain in the arse cause of a little red tape

  2. Bonk fish, take home. I'm not even going to get into the whole lining thing, other than to say I've never personally witnessed a chinook HIT a bait in 2 feet of water. FYI, scraped skein is one of the finest baits available!

biggest chinook i've ever caught was in frog water, water so slow the float barely moves, next thing i know is the float drops straight down and hook in the corner of the mouth

  3. You do realize CO's don't bust people for speeding, right? They aren't cops.

in port hope police officers have been trained to act on the CO's behalf, beleive theresnow 4 or 5 port hope police that check on the river, not the mnr

  4. Nice! Fly tying can become an addiction. You’ll never look at road kill the same again.LOL

haha no kidding i've actually got a nearly endless supply of materials, have a hunter friend thats supplying me with furs and feathers lol

  5.

Exactly what? You think when there's a big run of fish in a system, you need every Tom Dick and Harry in there adding even more pressure to the fish?

so lets put it this way.....do you know exactly where this is?? don't just say yes or no

  6. thing about backgrounds is, if you can recognize the river bank, and trees and bushes in a photo.....then you have already been there and know about that hole. but to someone who hasn't fished the river, they aren't going to be able to tell that spot from the thousands of others that are out there

  7.

That's a rather odd reply considering it only takes a couple hours to process a deer, yet many hunters spend days or weeks filling their tag with patience being a huge part of hunting big game.

meaning it takes time to learn how to do it properly so you end up with wasted cuts

  8. Rather than handing money over to the butcher, why not use that money to invest in a good book, knife, and vacuum sealer and do it yourself?

some people don't have the time or patience to do that

  9. awesome job guys, glad you got to experience these river giants. a big change from the bass you normally get into. should try to get on on the fly rod.....its a blast..

for a lot of people, this time of year is the only chance they will have at fighting these great fish, they may not be in their prime, but they still give a good fight, these are the largest sport fish in our waters (excluding sturgeon) let them have their fun. like our parents always said, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.

  10. I was under the impression that a butcher shop was not allowed to do wild game if they butcher beef and pork.

    Something about possible cross contamination.

    Not sure if that's true,

    Anybody here know?

yep, most will refuse to do it, or refer you someone that will. and places that will do it, are usually after hours work, so unless you have a separate cutting and production area, you can't do it legally

  11. yes there is. when you change the ownership, they charge you sales tax. and they charge you it everytime the vehicle is sold, so say you buy it, pay the tax, turn around and sell it a week later, someone else will have pay sales tax, they sell it a month later, then another person will have to pay sales tax. kinda Bull ifyou ask me. now, you can negotiate the price down to cover the cost of the sales tax without having to extend your budget
