I'm all ready to take my test over again, You don't need a propelling devise if you have an anchor and 49'3" of rope for a sail or power pleasure craft less than 29'6". Not 100 feet of rope.

Petition to allow more walleye restocking on Lake Nipissing
Old Ironmaker replied to LNSA_'s topic in General Discussion
Good luck Danny. I will post the link to the petition on some smaller site for Erie, many guys here fish Nip. -
I have an old grainy pic of the fish somewhere here. If the fins are a definitive feature it is a Tiger. Definitly rounded not pointed like in the pics above. Regarless, and I really don't care, I caught a 17 pounder on 8 lb mono and no leader.

I definitely see the difference in the rounded vs. pointed fins. These fins are definitely round. Can't count the pours lost in the mount.

Petition to allow more walleye restocking on Lake Nipissing
Old Ironmaker replied to LNSA_'s topic in General Discussion
The LNSA is not asking to stock fish into Nipissing they are asking to stock more fish. To say don't stock the lake because the First Nations fishermen will only get to take more fish is absolutely childish. Like the kid who takes his ball home so no one gets to play, he doesn't get to play either. A prime example of cut your nose to spite your face. It isn't going to cost you a penny. If they are asking for your money through donation or increasing tax dollars then I might see a reason to resist but I don't see any reason not to join there cause here. More fish in the future is more fish for everyone. I'm signing. Why shouldn't I, or you. Johnny D -
Got it Roy, thank you.

You said a few pics, yes that is true. But what great photos they are. The kids must have had a blast, the 2 youngsters too. Do you get off teasing us mere mortals? Seriously one of your best reports and some silly numbers of esox. We are planning a reunion of our very first northern trip for spring 2016 it will be 35 years since we went to Klotz Lake. This camp is on my short list and have forwarded your report to my relatives in Atlanta ( they think a 5 pound Largemouth is a monster fish) that are coming back up for the first time in those 35 years. I will PM you when we get the choice down to a few and then you can do what you do. Johnny D

I have pictures and I still have the fish hanging on the wall in my kitchen. This was before C&R became the norm. I did the mount because I caught it on 8 lb. mono on a Ieaderless Black Fury looking for Walters. I always thought it was a Musky until a very knowledgeable Musky guy told me it was a Tiger. Danny Columby told me some things to look for of which I can't remember and the thing looks to be a Tiger based on those features. I can take a few pics and email to you if you PM me the address Pete. The colours are very accurate to the original fish, it was done by an award winning taxidermist in Hamilton, Joe Martin in 79' or so. It looks as fresh as the day it was caught. All I do is dust it off with a damp cloth once a year, maybe. I wonder if Joe is still with us, he would be in his 80;s now I think, great guy. Up to the last few years I always thought it was a Musky. How you can tell the difference is beyond me. I've only seen 3 in my life and 2 I caught, Danny caught the other.

That's not pink it's Salmon. That looks like fun and yes nice set up not far from the fridge and the vittles. The big Carp are spawning here and last night it was so dead calm we could here the splashing about with big ones making little ones. Talk about kinky if you know what I mean? This is a Family site.

I saw a fishing program some time ago and it featured the Shad fishing on the river in Montreal when they are running. Man talk about shoulder to shoulder, how about 2 deep and waiting your turn to get riverside to cast when the other guy removes the hook from a fish. I have never seen such a show. By the looks of the sheer numbers of fishermen there I have no idea how it doesn't become a fish rodeo cluster jam is beyond me. How they can bring in a fish without snagging someone else's line is a miracle. It sure looks like fun with all the family attending and cleaning and cooking the fish right on the spot. They must taste great based on the number of people fishing.

I can't find on the websites for boat regs in Canada where you are exempt from have a manual propelling devise if you have an anchor with a 100 foot rope. On one federal site for obtaining a boaters card there are statements made that just don't jive from what I have been taught. Like a light is required for operating a boat after dark but no mention of floating light or just waterproof, and if operating during daylight. It talks about needing a fire extinguisher for I/O motors or inboard gas tanks but doesn't say anything about a Marine approved (white) extinguisher. I am specifically trying to find out if the light the OPP are always checking to see if it works has to be water proof or can float. A light that can sink seems useless to me on the water. The site is boatsmartexam.com. It has some info but mostly general info. without much detail. I am having problems navigating the federal sites for pleasure boat safety requirements like most dot gov sites. Can someone give me a link to pleasure boat requirements? Please. Thanks. Maybe I should start a new thread.

Shipping a truck from Edmonton to Toronto
Old Ironmaker replied to icefisherman's topic in General Discussion
Years back there was a company called Auto Driveaway a girlfriend worked for in T.O.. They paired up people that wanted cars shipped with people that wanted to get to where ever. But that was in the days people trusted one another. A few of us drove a big Caddy to Lauderdale and they reimbursed the gas cost, then we flew back. Another time we drove a truck out east and drove a car back. It was a great deal for a few cash strapped 21 year olds wanting to travel. There has to be something similar out there, if you can trust anyone. I trust in insurance. I just Binged AutoDriveaway.com, they are still in business since 1952. Check it out, they will give an online quote after filling out vehicle and departure location and destination. Looks like in Canada there is a company called CanadaDriveaway.com. Same premise. -
Shipping a truck from Edmonton to Toronto

10 years ago it was $750.00 plus taxes from T.O. to Calgary by rail. -
I caught a Tiger Musky in Skugog too. Unless there was an immaculate conception there used to be Pike there for sure.

Great thread, I can't seem to get down to my summer weight because of it. That is a feast Speil not a meal. Hey Speil I have an idea, the Parrot Head at the end of Kohler Rd. is for sale, you should open the restaurant again. You can't make any money there but everyone around here will be happy, and fat, or fatter should I say. Brian B, yes Sapputo sells real Mozzarella. Real mozzarella can not be shredded because it is wet and as soft as a cloud. Bufalo mozzarella isn't made from Water Buffalo in Canada I don't think, it's cows milk. I only use Bocconcini on my pizzas because that's the only real Mozzarella I can get around here until I can go to Hamilton. I think the word you are looking for is Bruscetta. All it means in Italian is toast. There are as many recipes for it than there are different types of bread. Some have tomatoes some don't. If you want garlic bread in Italy you ask for toast with garlic and olive oil, Bruscetta con l'ail et olio di oliva.

Another great Bunk report complete with artwork. We miss our April Crappie feed here. Our spot was a Marina down the lake and it is now locked up like Fort Knox complete with 10' fence. Guys were going in there and leaving all sorts of crap (a pun) laying around, the back breaking straw I was told by the owner was the year they broke up a dock to make a fire. Arse wipes.

Their pockets are deep Moosebunk if they know they will be filled twice over. Investing in front line workers won't make their shareholders any richer. Penthouse magazine wrote about the big Pharma companies withholding cures in the 70's.

Good easy recipe Cliff. As for the cheese unless you are ina 5 star clip joint you have a pretty good chance you are getting that rubber stuff from Sysco that disguises itself as Mottzarella.

How would a Phama group have influence on individuals Doctors? I don't know but can tell you my Sister-in-law is a Physician in Philly Pa. and goes on these extravagant vacations every year and has never reached in her pocket for a penny. The staff in her office has never had to bring a lunch in the entire time she has had a practice, the Pharma reps. fight over who is bringing in lunches and we aren't talking sub sandwiches. The graft they give these people is sickening. And who pays? If anyone thinks this stuff is free I have some prime land in Fla. for you.

There is drownable (a new word?) water close to shore. I've seen a family of 5 including 2 kids a mile out on Erie in a 14 foot tinny on calm water more than a few times, tell me that's a smart decision. I pulled up and asked the gentlemen what in the hell is he thinking and his reply was we are close to shore, idiot.

Safety Equipment Education and Flare Disposal Day
Old Ironmaker replied to KLINKER's topic in General Discussion
I've had an old flare go off in my hand lighting a furnace top at the plant. Get rid of out of date flares please. If I didn't have fire retardant gloves and clothing on I would have suffered badly. Please get rid of them.
