    JOBS

Out of high school I went into the trades: Pipefitting and steamfitting was good money, but I didn't like the lay-off and call back cycle going on in B.C. at the time. Went to UVIC to be a high school teacher (' 95), but took a part time job with a golf distributor while going there and have worked my way up to operations director. Great job with a great company (even moved to Ontario to stay with it), but summers are busy as golfing and fishing are competing hobbies. As others have mentioned, I could go back on the tools at any time. My buddies in Alberta call me regulary as the tradesmen are all making 100K plus a year. Life is definitely too short to do something you hate everyday! No one ever lay on their deathbed wishing they spent more time at the office. cheers
  2. I am heading west for my fishing vacations this year; A week in Calgary with my bro drifting on the Bow river in early August and in the first week of September to Vancouver Island with my Dad and my other brother. We have a cabin in Barkley Sound. Lots of salmon and rockfish, plus all the crabs, oysters, and clams you can handle. Seems like its going to take forever to arrive.. I hope everyone enjoys the upcoming season! suds
  3. Great report, love those kinds of trips. cheers suds
  4. Nice reel Bill. Luv the new toys...
  5. Ramble on is bang on; on your first cast into an area, let it rest for as long as you can stand it before you begin the retrieve. I try and wait until all the ripples from the landing impact are gone before i start working the lure back on the retrieve. try it out.. cheers suds
  6. And to many more! Enjoy your day
  7. All I know for sure is that all the pressure is on the Pats to finish off the dream season. The Giants will be loose and ready. If its as good as the last game of the year when they played, it'll be a dandy Superbowl. hope I can remember it this year.....
  8. I will never forget my first deer either.... It did not look like that beast though!! Congratulations! suds
  9. Out on the west coast salt chuck you wouldn't even know there were brands other than Scotty. The plastic and stainless combo avoids electrolysis and corrosion better than anything else. Plus the warranty is tremendous. If its only ever going to be freshwater, no issue.. And as others have mentioned, one trip alone with manual riggers, and you will be kicking yourself for not getting electrics! Cheers suds
  10. How could you allow yourself to run out of beer suds
  11. The 95th Grey Cup- true Canadiana. Go GREEN!! The banjo bowl hits the big time. I am heading down. Any other ONF'ers going to the game or going to check out the festivities? lots going on.. www.cflgreycup.ca cheers suds
  12. Few things are better than a weekend away steelheading with the buddies. Thanks for sharing your fun. Please keep it up! cheers suds
  13. Nice report and cool pic. FYI-Out in BC, almost all rivers have a bait bait with single barbless hooks only. The pink worm is many steelheaders favorite choice. Lots of rain keeps the water a little coloured most of the time. Gooey Bobs, spin and glo's, and corkies are very popular as well. You need a lot of beads and sequins lol. I don't see many guys reporting their use out here though. Anyone use em? cheers suds
  14. Yes, he belongs in the Hall of Fame for what he accomplished while playing hockey. Period end of story. I think a lot of the debate is centred around his "unrealized potential". But most NHL'ers could not post the points and get the awards he got in 20 years, never mind the 7 good ones he had. Its the hockey hall of fame, not the nice personality hall of fame. cheers suds
  15. Nice report Bill, Fish and Fowl equals a great time and a good feed! Thanks for posting suds
  16. Thank you all for your responses. What a site!! suds
  17. HI all, I am hoping a few of the hunter types here can help me out. I have been scouring MNR websites, and OFAH and I am still confused. My father is coming out from B.C. to hunt birds next week and so we know he needs a non resident small game license (correct?) Anyone know where these are sold in Toronto North? I assumed BPS, but I can't get anyone on the phone who knows- its classic voice mail jail! Can he legally transport his firearms with only the hunting license? I know you can in B.C. and Alberta, but I can't figure it out here. Also, can anyone send me any info about hunter instruction course instructors? Or does anyone know one? I emailed several directly from OFAH website a while back, but have heard nothing. I can legally hunt in B.C. and AB, but not here until I challenge the course. Sounds like a cash grab for sure! Thanks in advance- appreciate any info you have PM if you like cheers suds
  18. I thoroughly enjoyed that report as much as all the other ones you post. Thank's for taking the time to do it, cheers suds

  20. Hello Fisherfolk, I managed a day on the Bow with my brother while I had to go out west on a golf trip. It was a fantastic day drifting down the river. He did most of the rowing and I did most of the fishing. Although we stopped periodically and I let him have first cast on some fishy looking water, it's tough to brag I outfished him, when he didn't fish much. The Bow is an awesome fishery and if you get to Calgary, you have to check it out. I hope the pics work... All these were caught on the trusty golden stonefly. We had a lot of hookups and were broken off by some brutes as well! Cheers suds
  21. I thoroughly enjoyed that! Thanks a ton suds
  22. Thanks guys, I have an intermediate sink line that's 110' with 400 yards of backing. Its the reel I used for flyfishing for coho on the Pacific. I think I may attach a 6' or 8' heavy sink tip to that as well. Hmm. That should allow me to fool around with different depths. I'd love to get one on the fly, even a small gaffer. I would prefer to not go any larger than 6lb leader, but do you think that may be too light for a laker? I guess if its deep and the waters coloured a bit, 8 or 10 would be cool? Any pattern suggestions? I'll be sure to let you know how it works out. Thanks again suds
