Heading to the Kawarthas Monday and was wondering if anyone knows the current gas prices around Peterborough?

Lower Buckhorn has alot of islands you can fish around with good success for musky/walleye.Get a map of the lake at Sunrise to help you for depth and fish locations. The lake has some hazards(under surface shoals) to be aware of. Just be cautious when venturing outside of the channel markers. The dam right next to Sunrise resort is a good spot to try for Walleye at dawn and dusk. A simple jig head tipped with a minnow is a good set up to start with. There's a bait shop right next to the dam directly beside Three Castles resort to get your live bait from. I've had good success casting large spinnerbaits for Musky around any of the many islands on the lake. Many bays on the lake will produce musky too.Just cover alot of water and you'll usually end up catching one or will see alot of follows to the boat. I'll be up there fishing for a week starting on Monday the 18th so leave a few for me to catch!! Good Luck and hope you have a good report to post..

Nice pike report!! Brings back memories of pike fishing as a youngster with my grandpa using red devils and five of diamonds spoons.

Weather!!! As long as you keep a close eye on the weather and weather forcast you'll be fine in the inner bay. Smallies and largies will be there for sure. Opening weekend will be a zoo with a ton of boats out there. Follow the floatilla of boats and you'll get into some bass. Remember to watch the weather and wind speed. Good Luck!!!

The downfall to Gulp is they dry up quick. You can't re-use like other soft plastics. Once you rig one up if you let it sit out of water they start to shrink and dry up. The plus side is they are bio-degradable in water which is better for the environment.

Brian, Sorry to hear of the bad news. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Keep your chin up. Marcel

Misfish, I couldn't agree with you more about Robert and the ko-man-chi product. I met with him last night for a few hours and all I have to say is WOW!!!! Wait until next year when he gets all his products available.

I remember reading the post here. I just missed seeing a picture of the beast. That must of been a blast catching it on 6lb test.

Musky's already open on the Kawarthas ( 1st Saturday in June). I'll be chasing them next week on Lwr. Buckhorn. Good luck on Stoney. Watch out for underwater ROCKS!!!!

Hey Brian a pair of side/wire cutters are a little more manly than clippers.LOL

I had the identical problem as Hooksets 55lb PD. After 3 years on my minn kota the foot pedal was toast.Replaced it last year ($125) and hope I don't get the same problem in another 3 years.LOL Hopefully the newer models have eliminated this problem.

My condolences to you Lew and your family on the loss of your brother. He will always be with you and surely missed. Mart

What is a good spot to test the new / used boat
mart replied to Fly Me In Scotty's topic in General Discussion
A suggestion for a good spot for your first venture out would be Pittock reservoir in Woodstock. There's panfish/pike/bass inthere too. Very sheltered and safe for your first outing. Here's a link. http://www.thamesriver.on.ca/Parks/Pittock_CA.htm -
I think there's a resort on the NorthEast side of the main part of the lake but I'm not sure if they have a launch. Here's a link to it. Good advise from Brian about being cautious. There's some unmarked rocks/shoals off of the main channel. http://www.silverpinesresort.com/

Here's a link to some nice colored maps. A little pricey but worth the money!! http://www.trakmaps.com/secure/catalog/pro...5062657e78a10f6

Caution!! Stoney can be a very dangerous lake for underwater rocks/shoals. Definitely get a map of the lake and take your time when driving around. There's lots of unmarked shoals/rocks just under the surface. Hope the Walleye bite turns on for you...

I'm not sure of a public launch but there's a good launch at Lauderdale (marina). Also down the river at the swing bridge there's a launch at the resort right beside the bridge.

For bass the floro material is a bit overkill. Try 8 to 12lb at about 6 feet of floro with a uni-uni knot. For the toothy critters definitely go heavier than the 30. I'd double the pound test to 50 or 60 at 12 to 18 inches using a swivel. Good luck!!!

I know there is a pond or oxbow near the back area of Brant Park near the river. I've never fished it though. I did see carp in there but not sure about panfish. I did notice lily pads in the pond so I'm sure there are other species in there.Maybe call the office and someone will have the answers for you.

Great Job!! Even if the MNR doesn't do anything at least these two characters might think twice about poaching again.

Don't feel terrible. We all have done it . It's one of those things I have to constantly remind myself to do. I know I'm guilty of not wearing mine all of the time. I have always worn my PFD in rough water or while running the outboard. Lake Erie can get nasty. I've been out there in calm water and within minutes you are into 6 foot rollers. That's when you really appreciate having your PFD.

There still are good samaritans in this world. That could of been a really bad situation. Great job Rick!!!
