Sleeping Bag Ratings - late fall camping
Sinker replied to Sharkbait22's topic in General Discussion
The clean clothes, dry sleeping bag, and good sleeping pad are almost more important than the bag itself. Ive had the same military style down filled mummy bag forever, but the sleeping pad, and clean sleeping clothes make all the difference, even with a good sleeping bag. Any sort of dampness and you just cant keep warm. S. -
A bump board doesnt lie. Longest possible length with tail pinched and you cant go wrong. S.

Yep, when I did thhe sturgeon trip, we caught a dozen or so fish. A lot of them were under 4', but several were over 5, biggest around 8. It was a blast. When you see a 6ft fish go airborne, your heart stops for a second!! Its awesome! S.
-
Id choose the sturgeon, only because I can catch all the salmon I want here in ON.
-
IF you've never done it, hit the Fraser River for sturgeon. Its worth it. I know its not Kelowna, but if your going to be in Vancouver, look into it for sure. Its amazing! The only place they measure fish in FEET!! I went with STS guiding service. They were awesome! Great boats, gear and guides! Next time I'm out there, I want to do deep sea fishing for halibut and Ling cod! I've done the sturgeon and salmon already. S.

Best way is with a bump board. East to make one. S.

I knew I saw them somewhere, but couldn't remember where. This is exactly where I see them all the time. S. -
sledge and a wedge will split almost anything. If its got a straight grain, it will split. I'm working on yellow birch right now. Its tough as nails!! No match for the hydraulics, but its tough stuff. My splitter can be used horizontal or vertical. Pretty handy for those huge gnarly chunks. S.

I haven't been checked for years on the kawartha's by a CO. Been stopped by OPP a couple times, but never a CO. I'm surprised your sister didn't get a ticket for not having her license....lucky. S.

Yep, there will be a ground block somewhere. Follow the negative wire off the battery, it might lead you to it. Post the pics you texted me. Maybe someone here can help. S.

The last time I was stopped by OPP they ran into my boat so hard that they almost capsized me. Water came over the opposite gunnel, it tipped me so much. I can walk the gunnels on my boat, its that stable. They stopped us for a routine check while we were duck hunting, and tried to give my dad and I the gears for wearing camo mustang survival suits(we had other PFDs on board), then tried to give us a hard time about my 10 million candle spotlight not being able to float and wasnt water proof (I had the useless little light that comes in the kit as well....and it worked). My old man lost it on these clowns, and asked them to go pick on the next boat that had 4 guys with no lifejackets on. This was in December on the bay of quinte, and it was a nasty day! They left. Didnt even ask for our hunting or firearms license....nothing. No appology for ramming us though. Jerks! S.

Yes, start at the talon and work r way back. Hook it to a known good battery, and go from there. I bet it works fine right off the good batt. Seen it many, many times. S.
-
yes, this ^.....but load test it. Or a loose/bad connection somewhere. S.
-
The steel pipe welded to the head of the maul has worked for me for years. The trick is to learn how to hit where your looking......or look where you want to hit!! S.
-
I"m sure pretty much everyone who fishes thinks the same thing. S.

The weather has been messed. Up and down like a yoyo all year. Tough winter, late spring, cool summer.....certainly not "normal"....whatever that is. I can't say the fishing has been "bad" though. I've still caught lots of fish, just had to work a little harder, and adapt to conditions more. S.
-
All your connections tight? Almost seems like a loose connection somewhere. S.

Old post, but the info is still good for anyone who might need it. S. -
Not in the least! LOL S.

You need the new dodge diesel 1/2 ton buddy! Same mileage as your car, with 4wd and towing is a breeze! Nice set up though! Where you gonna put the decoys? LOL S.
-
Yep, hook it to the starting battery. Hook it up to the two that are 24v and you could see some smoke! S.
-

John, Exit 115 at Hwy 28 south, take the second left on Whitfield rd. The launch is at the end. Lots of parking and its all free. The launch is a little steep, but its a good concrete ramp with a dock. I fished there one evening last week, but got nothing (GF lost one musky). Too much boat traffic in there for me. Early in the am it might be alright, but during the day/evening there are a lot of boats going up/down the river. Good musky fishin, but they tend to be on the small size. And yes, the place Lew mentioned is Willow Bend. Campbelltown is also a decent free launch, but further down stream. GL S. -
I"ve had taildancers replaced that the lips pulled off of no questions asked, but I took them right to rapala in oshawa. S.
