  1. Checked the north shore of Kempenfelt today, this is what I found.
  2. Put in a lot of hard work to get in and out of our crappie lake today, but had fun as always. Fished for about 5 hours, found fish in 27 feet of water and had them under us all day. Landed about 60 fish between us. Caught on a mix of baits but the most productive were live minnows, a small PK spoon and a 2.5 inch Fin-S Fish.
  3. I doubt we lost much ice, but this snow isnt helping to build any, thats for sure
  4. could get some great footage. Not much of a practical fishing purpose IMO
  5. Hey guys, I havent been very active on the forums for a while, going to change in the new year I hope. I recently started doing some video blogs that I'm going to try and keep up with, I hope people enjoy them. I've been trying to pump them out every couple days, but anyways here's one from a week ago on a little back lake for some crappies. A couple NSFW words here and there, I apologize, but the point of the blogs are to be candid and open to sharing the experiences and tips. This one is VLOG #2 of 6 that I've done so far. Enjoy, check them out and let me know what you think or what you want to see coming up. I'm open to sharing tips and tricks.
  6. There were a good 20 huts out on Little last saturday. I imagine it would be slushy nightmare right now. I was out on Cooch on Tuesday and had 8 inches of ice (5 black, 3 white).
  7. There's a few. I had 4 over 7 this season. Biggest was the second from the bottom was 7-10
  8. Well, it's that time of year! With this cold snap, I put the boat into hibernation yesterday... had a couple drinks... shed a couple tears... then jumped on the computer to sift through the GoPro footage I have accumulated over the season. Plenty to go through, but I put together a highlight reel of some of my favourite moments of the season to accompany the report. I hope you enjoy. Ice season started a little late, but better late than never. The main lake never froze enough to venture out, so we were contained to Kempenfelt and a few small zones in the north end of the lake. Though I really wish we could have explored more, these spots still kept us busy and entertained throughout the season. We fished various depth ranges from 22 - 122 feet to put a good number of solid lake trout on the ice. Typical baits such as swimbaits, spoons and tubes did most of the damage with the occasional crankbait fish showing up. Once the ice season passed us by, I didnt get out for perch or steelhead like I normally would. My wife and I bought a new house and that kept me busy until mid May when other seasons started to open up. I did a lot of multispecies trips throughout May and June targeting lake trout, pike and salmon on a number of lakes. Caught some really good fish and would rank it as one of my best springs in a while. Once bass season opened up, I shifted my focus there and with the exception of the occasional musky outing, I never really switched gears for the rest of the season. I fished a lot of different lakes, but obviously, Simcoe still has my heart!
  9. I have no science on the matter. I would imagine that early in their lives, they grow much faster until they reach a MAX point of some sort. Either way, 1/2 inch in 2 years shows how fragile a population of large fish could be, and emphasizes the need for catch and release of trophy fish.
  10. I think earlier in the year I made a post about catching my new PB pike at 47.5 inches. It broke my previous record of 47 inches. Well it turns out that it was the same fish I had caught 2 years prior. Here's a cool video of the experience showcasing the importance of catch and release. I still made some handling errors, my net is too small etc. But doing your best to preserve the life of trophy fish goes a long way, and you CAN catch that fish again!!! Enjoy.
  11. lol. Always forget something on the first trip of the year. The no net challenge and we never lost one because of it.
  12. Got out with my good friend Greg Amiel on Wednesday on Lake Ontario. It was the maiden voyage in his new rig, before he gets his clients out. Lots of boat testing and lots of fish caught. No giants, but close to 20 fish landed had my arms sore anyways. And of course, there's always a blooper from every trip
  13. Well, it looks like my ice season has come to a close. It was a late season, starting and an early season ending. That said, I'm grateful for the window we were given. I'd have gone crazy without any ice to work with. My main lake water was inaccessible this year, so I stuck it out in Kempenfelt. I started the season on the south side of the bay in mid/late January. The bite was good for a couple of weeks with some good trout put on the ice. Fishing anywhere from 90-125ft early season using a variety of swimbaits and crankbaits. As usual, I hit a slow patch in February and headed to the north side of the bay. Up there I found an unusually good number of whitefish with some good trout mixed in. Lost too many fish this season and will be looking for a new rod or two next season to better accommodate the pattern I was on. We still hit fish on swimbaits and crankbaits, but a vibrato did most of the damage, fish on bottom and mid column. Our best day was over 30 fish, our worst day was 0 and we had a few of them. All in all, not the best season but given the short window, we made the most of it. I put together a highlight video, I hope you all enjoy it. Kelli and I are moving to our new home in Orillia at the end of the month, so since I've delayed packing long enough, even the float rod will have to wait.
  14. What a day! I trekked out with 3 buddies at 7am and we were on fish almost instantly. After a few quick moves, we settled into our honey hole for the day. We had a good spread from 97ft - 118ft between 4 of us and put well over 30 fish on the ice, with countless others lost. Good mix of lakers and whities. Vibrato did most of the damage, but a few fish on tubes and swimbaits also.
  15. Ventured a little further today. In the shallower water, I still found 4 inches everywshere, but once I got out deeper there was just 1.5 - 2 inches of ice... BE SAFE!!!!!
  16. Hey guys. Most of you know me as a bass fisherman, but I've started getting into pike and musky the past couple of years. Here's a raw clip of my biggest musky so far at just under 49 inches. Before anyone says it... yes I bought a bigger net. Enjoy. Thanks for watching
  17. I'm a combat sports fan, period. My interest is more in MMA since boxing has become stale. After the Mayweather / Pacquiao fight, there's nothing exciting left. Still love certain fights and there's some I'll tune into, but mma has a lot of exciting matchups almost weekly.
  18. Boring fight, happy to see the belt change hands though. Wlad didnt seem to mind giving rounds away. No killer instinct
