  1. For many years I had a Ranger 375, not the lightest of bass boats. I towed it with a Chevy Astro van, but even it struggled at times, and it wasn't the best with gas consumption. Whatever vehicle you choose, remember that it also has to have the brakes to stop your boat. I would not suggest you tow it with any front wheel drive van. I'm not sure what you are towing it with right now, but if you already have a vehicle, why don't you look for a reliable commuter car that's good on gas, and use it for work.
  2. There's a lot of confusion over what is open on Rice after Jan 1st. My understanding is that walleye is closed for one more year. What ever you are fishing for be sure to check the regs. The MNR seminar that I attended said that they know a lot of anglers are confused but there will be no leniency as regards fines.
  3. Hi Mike, I've been to the Lindsay Bassmasters club and entered a few of their tournaments. I think you'll be impressed. They are a good bunch of guys who run the club well, and, yes, there is a non boater side to their tournaments.
  4. http://www.canada.com/reginaleaderpost/new...39-9283594aff08 Sadly, young Dallas was killed when his trailer caught fire.
  5. I owned a bassboat for 15 years with a dual console. Protection from the elements for your passenger, and a safe, handy glovebox for keys, wallet, gloves, sunglasses etc. I now own a single console 17ft Lund and really miss that glovebox, and my passengers keep reminding me of how windy it is, even at 40 mph. Anything smaller than 18ft and I don't think you have enough room for that second console. Personally I don't care for the full windshields, I feel they really cut down on the space to move around, especially when 2 anglers are getting up at the same time It's all a matter of personal choice, of course. If you mainly fish alone, then don't bother...if you have kids, they definately need protection. Good luck with whatever choice you make.
  6. If the oil pump fails then the engine will sieze up. People decide to remove their pumps on older models simply to have peace-of-mind that there will be no pump issues. Those GT 150 and 175 engines, along with the Faststrikes were very reliable. My fishing buddy has a GT 175 that is 19 years old and runs like a clock.
  7. Doesn't your Mercury have thermostats? I have a 150 Merc and it takes quite a while for them to open up and allow water out of the pee hole.
  8. I guess you don't want to hear that your tranny is in need of some TLC Try putting it in 'D' instead of "overdrive" see if it makes any difference.
  9. Beautiful looking dog you have there..identical to mine....and I'm sure she loves playing with your daughter as well! I take my guy out with me everywhere I go, and he quickly gets used to the cold and ice. One thing to be careful of is when there is a thin crust of ice that the dog's paws can break through. I've had problems a few times when the pads of his feet, especially the dew claw area, get cut by the ice. ..and of course you and the dog won't notice it until much later. Although I haven't had much luck with them with my dog, a number of my friends use the doggie boots that are available...but my guy just shakes them off after 2 minutes! My daughter is blind and uses a guide dog... I am always amazed at how special these animals are. Take good care of your dog, you'll quickly develop a special bond.
  10. Why not go straight out of Lindsay, Riviera Park? It's a bit of a drive up the river, but lots of great spots there to fish
  11. Sorry I don't post here more often, but for all the bass fanatics out there, the classic weigh-in is showing live via video today at 4.30. Check out the link below. http://sports.espn.go.com/outdoors/tournaments/live/index I spent a lazy afternoon yesterday watching the anglers load their boats and head to the day 2 weigh-in. Alton Jones leads with Charlie Hartley about 1lb behind. So nice to see those boats out on the water in February.
  12. Hi Rick, we've never spoken before, but I just want to wish you all the best. I have a lab that goes everywhere with me, and my daughter has a faithful guidedog. I can only imagine what you are going through.
  13. At the age of 5 months my daughter was diagnosed with cancer. We spent the next ten years of our lives fighting this disease with the wonderful staff at Sick Kids. I understand what this family is going through, and wish to help out. I missed the original post, so could someone explain again how I go about donating funds to this family. Do I just send a cheque to the address quoted above?
  14. I'm not sure about Mr. Chronzy, but my guess is that the product was not a sponsor of his show, while Bob Izumi would love it if we all used those YUM products
  15. Are you using braided line on your reel? If so, look carefully at your spool because sometimes the line itself slides around on the spool giving the impression that the drag is loose.
