MELCHETT LAKE REPORT

:Gonefishing: Just returned from a fly in to Melchett Lake with Arctic Watershed Outfittters. Over all a good trip considering serveral things. Weather was terrible, HIGH winds, fog, rain, cold temps, thunder, lightning and the "S" word, snow. Also water was high. When we arrived in camp on June 1 the water was up approx. six inches. When we left it was over the permanant dock 6/8". Caught MANY walleye in the 15 to 20" range. No walleye larger. Pike were not as plentiful as in the past but LARGER. Many pike over 30" and two over 40". One was 41" and the other a 46" monster. In the low shore areas the water was back into the shrubs 12 to 20 feet. We felt this is where the pike were. No way to get a lure into such places. In all we caught over 1500 fish. Ate walleye and released the rest. All fish caught with artifical lures, no live bait. Pics to follow soon.
